Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., has hitched her political wagon to impeaching President Donald Trump.
Since Trump was elected, Waters has repeated her “Impeach 45!” chant everywhere she’s gone — celebrity red carpets, formal State dinners, and even during a funeral eulogy.

If Waters thought that simply hating Trump was enough political fuel to last a lifetime, though, a stunning new poll from CNN must have left her furious.
After being named “Most Corrupt Congressperson in America” five times under former President Barack Obama, Waters has successfully rebranded herself as a leader of the so-called anti-Trump “resistance.”
She used her surging popularity in 2018 to secure the prestigious Chair of the House Financial Services Committee — despite having been investigated in 2012 for her shady bank dealings during the financial crisis.
Thanks to her impeachment chants, Democrats no longer call Waters the “Most Corrupt.”
Instead, they call her “Auntie Maxine.”

But not for long.
Already a fringe idea, the political support for Trump’s impeachment has plummeted since December.
A Democrat-led impeachment effort would only be supported by 36 percent of Americans — down a staggering 7 points since 2019 began.
In terms of polls, a 7 point drop in a few months isn’t just big. It’s HUGE.
And most of that decline is among self-proclaimed Democrats, the core voters that Waters depends on for her re-election.
“In December, 80 percent of self-identified Democrats said they were in favor of impeachment — that now stands at 68 percent, a 12-point dip,” CNN reported Wednesday. “Among independents and Republicans, support for impeachment has fallen 3 points over the same time.”

That’s the lowest level CNN — a left-leaning news organization that frequently clashes with Trump — has ever reported publicly.
Even among far-left voters, there’s growing acceptance of Trump and his fiery politics.
The economy is booming. Unemployment plummeting. Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has started telling reporters that she’s “not for impeachment.”
For Waters and her newfound political stardom, that’s very bad news.
