Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., has been a controversial figure for decades — but what she said Sunday left lawmakers and critics — including The New York Post’s editorial board — demanding her immediate impeachment and removal from office.
Waters has been named America’s “Most Corrupt Politician” at least four times by the left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
She has made millions during her time in Washington, D.C., yet has been caught taking money from the homeless.
Waters has been recorded asking foreign nationals for dirt on her political rivals, has demanded the torture of former President Donald Trump, and chanted “Viva Fidel!” at an event celebrating Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
But on Sunday, Waters took her dangerous rhetoric to the next level.
The Democratic leader openly called for violence to advance her agenda at a protest in Minnesota on Saturday.
At a rally in support of the conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin for the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd last year, Waters said the court must rule the way she demands… or else.
“We’re looking for a guilty verdict. We’re looking for a guilty verdict,” Waters said. “And we’re looking to see if all of this … that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd.”
“If nothing does happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice,” she said. “I am very hopeful and I hope that we’re going to get a verdict that will say guilty, guilty, guilty. And if we don’t, we cannot go away.”
Waters called for more unrest and riots, and told protesters to ignore police-imposed curfew and “stay in the streets” if Chauvin is found not guilty.
“We’ve got to get more active, got to get more confrontational,” she said. We have “got to make sure that they know we mean business.”
Critics said Waters was calling for an open Civil War and advocating for insurrection and called for her immediate impeachment.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy demanded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi punish Waters — or he would take action himself.
At least one Republican House member has started the process to have Waters removed from Congress.
Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week.

This isn’t the first time Waters has called for violence against her political opponents.
In 2018, she told a crowd to attack members of former President Donald Trump’s administration if they’re seen in public.

It is past time that Waters be removed from office.
