An ethics complaint against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. has been sent to House Ethics Committee, signed by over 40 conservative political groups.
Their goal is to stop the “weaponized” impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
And it could cost Pelosi her position as Speaker of the House.
The groups, led by the Tea Party Action Committee, are requesting an inquiry and investigation into Pelosi’s “misconduct.”
The letter states that Pelosi is using impeachment as a political tool to help her party win the 2020 presidential election – and they’ve got proof.
“In launching her ‘official’ impeachment inquiry without benefit of a vote of the full House of Representatives and without indicating anything remotely qualifying as ‘treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors’ that is the subject of the inquiry, Speaker Pelosi has weaponized impeachment,” the letter reads.
“She and her Democratic colleagues are using the impeachment process as a weapon of partisan political battle, rather than as the means to defend the Constitution our Framers meant it to be,” it continues.
As evidence of political misconduct, the letter quotes Rep. Al Green, D-T.X., who told MSNBC in an interview in May, “I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.”
“Many Democrats in the House of Representatives apparently share Rep. Green’s view — that they are unlikely to defeat President Trump at the polls in the November 2020 presidential election, and therefore must vote to impeach him lest they be saddled with another four years of his presidency,” the complaint continues.
“For them, impeachment is just another political tool, with guilt or innocence to be determined not by the weight of the evidence, but by the relative strength of the political parties in the Congress.”
The conservative groups are demanding Pelosi be removed as Speaker of the House for conducting such unethical impeachment proceedings.
“Speaker Pelosi has, through multiple actions and false statements, abused her power as Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the complaint says.
“She has violated the Official Code of Conduct of the House of Representatives through a pattern of abuse of power, demonstrating that she is unfit to continue to serve as Speaker of the House,” it concludes.
“Speaker Pelosi’s latest impeachment gambit – at last, a vote of the full House! — is merely a continuation of her ongoing roughshod-running,” the letter’s author, Tea Party leader Jenny Beth Martin, told The Hill.
“The genie cannot be put back in the bottle,” Martin said. “All that ‘evidence’ that has been gathered before the casting of a single vote is tainted by the corrupt, secret process in which it was gathered. It is poisoned, and must be discarded for the sake of fairness.”
