Ryan Lochte says he feels “a little hurt” after two men were arrested for allegedly rushing the stage following his performance on “Dancing with the Stars.”
The two men, wearing anti-Lochte T-shirts, were arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing, Los Angeles police spokesman Officer Mike Lopez said.
They had rushed the stage while Lochte was getting his scores from judge Carrie Ann Inaba for his debut performance during Monday night’s live installment of the celebrity ballroom dance competition.
“Hey, back off,” Inaba said as the altercation was occurring off screen.
When the show returned, “Dancing with the Stars” host Tom Bergeron explained they were interrupted by “a little incident” and thanked the ABC series’ security team “for staying in shape.”
The two men were detained by security until police arrived to take them into custody, Los Angeles police spokesman Mike Lopez said. He did not have the men’s names.
No one was injured or listed as a victim in the incident, Lopez said.
The swimmer told Bergeron that “so many feelings are going through my head right now.” Lochte added that he was “a little hurt, but I came out here. I wanted to do something I’m completely not comfortable with, and I did.”
ABC did not immediately return messages seeking comment about the incident.
During the episode, the Olympic medalist performed a foxtrot routine with professional partner Cheryl Burke to “Call Me Irresponsible.” They received a combined score from the judges of 24 out of 40.
Lochte and teammates have faced criticism since they were involved in an early-morning drunken encounter during the Olympics last month at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They later claimed they were threatened and robbed.
United States team officials banned Lochte for 10 months, requiring him to forfeit $100,000 in bonuses and miss the 2017 world championships.
The Associated Press contributed to this article.
” requiring him to forfeit $100,000 in bonuses” I guess that making money for a sport is not “professional” because the money isn’t entitled “wages” or “salary”. And here I thought the Olympics was for amateur sports players.
ABC needs to be a little more careful who they let in to these shows. There’s always a few morons who want to grab attention for themselves and ruin a situation for the rest of us. I’d say the shirts they wore (as reported in another story) might have been the first clue they weren’t friendly audience members. Lochte only has himself to blame for this; however, if ABC invited him to participate in the show, they need to provide proper security against jerks like these.
The guy screwed up. Who hasn’t??? And I’m sure that being drunk didn’t help. But still, no excuse. He has lost everything he loves. All he has ever done is swim. 24/7, 365, probably 20 years of practice. He has lost tons of money. His sponsors. Respect of peers and America. To top it off, no World Races (that’s a big loss) no competitive swimming for 10 months. NO ONE WAS PHYSICALLY HARMED. Damages have been paid for. HE SCREWED UP AND WANTS ANOTHER CHANCE. Who has not made mistakes?? I know I have made plenty. And he will live with his, as I have lived with mine, for the rest of his life. Give him a break. He has apologized, and wants a 2nd chance. Give the guy that. He is trying to do better. And if he screws up again?? It will show he learned nothing. Until that time, STAY STRONG RYAN. THERE WILL BE A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.
I like your pragmatic point of view. What is the value of life long punishment for his youthful misjudgment.
For sure, who hasn’t made mistakes! I think he’s owed an apology, yea he got drunk, yes he did some property damage but I don’t think he deserved to be ordered out of the cab at gun point and then held at gun point! When I was younger I drank a little too much and I got in a little trouble, but have a gun pulled on me that’s way out of line!

The persons in jail should be the gun pointing security guards that confronted these kids in the first place. so they peed in the bushes and tore down an ad- it that worth losing everything for ? What college age kid has not done that stuff ? He is a magnificent
swimmer and the US should be proud of him for all his accomplishments, not scorn him for a celebratory bobo. After all, they deserved to celebrate after all they had done in the name of the US Olympic team.
