“On The Holmes Front” with Frank Holmes
Donald Trump may turn out to be the best friend the Mexican people ever had. Hear me out on this one! By the end of this column, I think you’ll agree.
The way he’s helping Mexico is by getting tough on illegal immigration.
At the same time, his border enforcement is paying benefits to American workers…HUGE benefits.
Trump’s immigration plan may be putting blue collars Americans to work again, just like he promised.
The construction industry is a perfect example.
In 1972, construction workers made the equivalent of $32 an hour. Today, they make $26. What happened?
Over that time, the construction industry workforce went from being 80 percent American-born citizens to at least half “immigrant.” In Texas, half of all construction jobs belong to illegal immigrants.
Some businesses love to hire illegal immigrants because they can pay them low wages, work them long hours and, if they complain, they can make one phone call and have them deported. The bosses have all the power.
But Donald Trump’s crackdown messed up their plans. Thanks to his no-nonsense approach, fewer illegals are coming to the United States.
Now those businesses have to do something they haven’t done in a long, long time.
They have to hire Americans.
Today, there are 700,000 fewer construction workers than there were in 2006, and 56 percent of developers need more workers.
So, contractors have launched programs to try to recruit veterans, high school students not going to college, prisoners, and unemployed young Americans to become construction workers.
A first job can get a worker $30,000 and $50,000 a year – and the paychecks are getting bigger.
Since there are no waves of illegals to take these jobs, firms have to bid against each other by offering higher salaries.
“It has caused a spike in wages,” said John Courson, president and CEO of the Home Builders Institute, because contractors are “recruiting other (construction) workers to fulfill their needs by offering higher prices.”
Of course, that’s just one way Americans benefit by controlling their borders.
Deporting all illegal immigrants would save Americans $600 billion, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.
Illegal immigrants collected $100 million in illegal Social Security payments, The Horn News has reported.
It would keep cities like San Francisco from letting illegals vote.
And it would get rid of the biggest cost of illegal immigration: crime.
Almost a quarter of all federal prison inmates are illegals – convicted of murder, theft and, yes, rape. These are the worst costs of all.
OK, so stopping the flow of illegal immigrants is good for Americans – but how is it good for Mexicans?
Actually, it’s great for immigrants. Here’s why. They are the real victims of the Open Borders crowd. And their persecutors are the ones who benefit.
Some American businesses use them for cheap labor. Smugglers treat them like cattle. (Just look at the illegals who died in the back of a truck in San Antonio recently.) Democrats use them for voter fraud.
But their own countries suffer the most.
Corrupt Latin American governments have used our open border for decades to line their own pockets. They knew Obama, the Bushes, McCain, Teddy, Kennedy, and a whole swatch of politicians would keep the border wide open for them. So, the Mexican elites sent their hardworking young men up here to find jobs, and send their wages back home to feed the rest of the country.
That lets these tin-pot dictators off the hook. They can keep on skimming enormous salaries and running their countries like the Mafia – where you have to grease every palm in the leader’s family to get into business or keep your shop open.
And the illegal immigration keeps the whole system working.
The Mexicans are a proud people. Ordinarily, the people would never take this. They’d revolt, like Texas and California did in 1836.
But illegals working in America keep their economy afloat, their people fed…and their corrupt system running like always.
If they could find a job in their home country, that would help everybody – themselves, their families, their cities, and their corrupt-as-Hell government.
Some of the illegals who were deported have built thriving businesses back home and employed their whole village. A few say being deported is “the best thing that ever happened” to them.
And if it raised American wages in the process, that would be great.
There you go. Trump is making Mexico great again! And he’s doing it by working on America first.
