“On the Holmes Front” with Frank Holmes
Barack Obama’s endorsement is the most coveted prize in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries—and so far, he hasn’t said a word in public.
But sources close to the former president—and the donors who have talked to him on the cocktail circuit—say that privately, he’s playing a much different game.
He hasn’t burned any bridges yet, just in case someone else wins the nomination… but Obama’s already working to set up his preferred candidate.
His closest confidantes say that Obama has put his money on Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Barack Obama made tongues wag when he gave a recent speech in Singapore, because he kneecapped his old vice president, Joe Biden—and threw Bernie Sanders under the bus, to boot.
Obama said that a woman leader would “indisputably” do a better job than a man—and “if you look at the world and look at the problems, it’s usually old people, usually old men, not getting out of the way.”
Reading between the lines, the ex-president seemed to be telling his dull, uninspiring, stuttering, gaffe-a-minute VP to bow out before he hands Donald Trump four more years in the White House.
Now the cat is out of the bag: Obama has been backing the senator from Massachusetts.
“Behind the scenes in recent months, former President Obama has gone to bat for Warren,” The Hill reported.
He’s been going to elite donors, telling them that “if Warren becomes the nominee, Obama has said they must throw the entirety of their support behind her.”
Obama worked the crowd at the Democracy Alliance meeting, George Soros’ shadowy group of ultra-liberal megadonors for Warren—but he put in a good word for her competitors, just in case.
Still, insiders say Obama wants Elizabeth Warren to lead his party.
And an Obama crony says their relationship goes deeper—much, much deeper.
A “longtime Obama ally” told The Hill newspaper that the president is “someone who can talk at length about her accolades.”
Obama “appreciates” Warren’s “intellect and is impressed by the campaign she’s run,” the aide, who requested to stay anonymous, admitted.
The ex-aide said Obama “feels licensed to give an opinion on her because he’s ‘hired’ her.”
Obama brought the then-professor into his White House as an advisor, where she came up with the Consumer Finance Protection Board. It’s set up like a fascist, business-busting tribunal—which should tell you a lot about how she’d govern.
Obama knows her heart. Obama knows her record. Obama knows she’s a raving leftist.
But Warren plays the same game that got Obama elected twice: She poses as a moderate who loves “the middle class.”
Warren calls herself “a capitalist to my bones,” even though she soft sells her brand of socialism, an Ivy League vision to radically transform the United States…just as Obama promised to do after his election was guaranteed.
But conservatives are blowing the lid off their make-believe centrism, all the way to the biggest outlet in America: Rush Limbaugh.
“Obama would like the radical left to take over this country as much as anybody,” Rush said on his top-rated show just before Christmas. “But he knows it isn’t the majority, and he knows it can’t happen with people like (Alexandria Ocasio-)Cortez and Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar as the faces of it.”
Everyone knows The Squad is a gaggle of undereducated anti-American socialists.
But Obama thinks Warren is cagey enough to pull off the same deception he did 12 years ago.
“I don’t care what you think. We have not gotten to the point in the country yet where radical leftist — proudly shouted, proudly expressed radical-leftist — policies are gonna win a majority of voters. We’re not there yet,” Rush said. “Obama knows this.”
So, Obama’s betting that Warren can be a Trojan Horse for democratic socialism and finish the job he stated.
So, about the same time, more than 200 former Obama staffers stabbed Biden in the back and endorsed Warren.
The huge momentum-builder was publicly spearheaded by two staffers in Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns and his community organizer group, Organizing for America.
“We all really believe in the need for big structural change that she is promising,” said Jon Carson, who worked for Obama in 2012.
“The endorsements came at a pivotal time for the campaign with less than 70 days left until the Iowa caucuses,” The Hill reported.
Obama’s gearing his old machine up to put Warren over the top.
And now you know why.
Final comment: I know this is off-topic for this column, but I predicted in The Horn News that Julián Castro would be the next to drop out of the Democratic presidential race—two months ago. At the time, Castro promised to soldier on, no matter what.
But on Thursday, he dropped out.
