Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows around the political world when she unexpectedly cancelled her planned appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday.
Harris had been scheduled to join Kimmel’s late night talk show, which films its episodes in the afternoon, but cancelled without warning. Her staff did not provide a reason for the cancellation, according to a report from Deadline.
Instead of a television appearance, Harris will be attending a campaign event in Los Angeles. However, that event will be closed to press coverage — an increasingly common role for Harris, whose public appearances have become increasingly rare.
The vice president’s sit-down with Kimmel will reportedly be rescheduled for a later date.
The mysterious move comes as the Biden campaign continues to limit the public visibility around many of Harris’s campaign trail stops and events. This has partly been attributed to disruptions from far-Left protesters over issues like climate change and the U.S. stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — but is largely due to Harris’ unpopularity.
On Monday, Harris was in Las Vegas for campaigning before returning to Los Angeles that evening, skipping a stopover in Washington D.C.
Just days ago, she made a surprise appearance at an event in Los Angeles honoring State Sen. Laphonza Butler, where Harris denounced “Trump abortion bans” being passed at the state level.
Harris has also been pushed into the role of donor outreach, attending a fundraiser event hosted by comedian Seth Macfarlane in Beverly Hills last Friday with around 30 Hollywood attendees.
Harris’s last in-studio appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live was back in July 2019, during her own campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination that cycle, just a month after accusing Biden of being a racist during the Democratic Party primary debates.
As the 2024 election season intensifies, the vice president’s camp appears eager to reduce her public appearances and only give outside access to campaign activities through a strictly controlled media lens – prioritizing hobnobbing with rich donors and select audiences over national exposure.
