Meouch! Texas town evicts library cat

A North Texas city council has started a cat fight by voting to oust the furry mascot of the city’s public library.

The governing council of the Fort Worth suburb of White Settlement voted 2-1 to give the library 30 days to find a new home for Browser the cat.

The ex-shelter cat has been a library fixture for six years. But council member Elzie Clements moved at a June 14 council meeting for the tabby’s removal.

Mayor Ron White, who has no vote on the council, tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the vote was a tit-for-tat after a city employee wasn’t allowed to bring a puppy to work at City Hall.

Ex-council member Alan Price said Browser’s supporters will petition for a reprieve in November’s elections.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

The poor cat must have been a Trump supporter.

Elzie should be removed! The cat has been vetted and established, non-indispensable! Elzie appears to need judgement training and could be a hindrance on the council!

Elzie should be removed. She appears not to have judgement capabilities!

The cat has long been approved, this doesn’t mean you can make a zoo of the library!

One cat doesn’t constitute a zoo. I gives the library a homey atmosphere besides providing mouse control. Uprooting it from it’s home is mean!

And dogs are different than cats, they need almost constant attention! Cats amuse themselves!! And whoever brought this vengeful charge, should be spayed!!! (figuratively!)

I agree with all the comments. Sounds like a very venglal nasty person brought this up. Get rid of her and that will probably make a lot of people happy.

Why did it take them so long to decide the cat had to go?

I have always understood that cats are put in libraries to catch mice that might be destructible to books, etc. Makes sense to me. I have never heard of a dog that catches mice, but Inhave worked in offices that allowed dogs andvtheybwere disruptive.

My dog catches field mice in his run area every once in a while. But wouldn’t want him in a library. Leave the cat alone.

Stupid and selfish of the puppy owner. Stupid for sure. That cat belonged to the community, not just one person.

Cats are very intelligent animals, they use a cat litter tray when they go to the toilet, keep themselves clean all the time and are not noisey, meanwhile dogs shit and piss all over the place , they stink and bark you do not want that in a library.
Grow some intelligence lady and let that poor beautiful cat stay in its home, now exterminators will have to be called in to get rid of the rat colonies . hope you get to stay Browser, good luck . from Joseph Australia.

Fort Worth is also the only known city in Texas to approve grown men taking photos of little girls in public bathrooms, as per Obama’s order.
That probably tells us all we need to know about Fort Worth, a once fine Texas city.
