Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is officially a man without a home — at least on Capitol Hill.
Hours after the Senate took a massive step to reopen the longest government shutdown on record, including support from multiple Democratic lawmakers, many progressive and far-Left lawmakers are now calling for Schumer to immediately be fired from his leadership position and the role he’s held for seemingly decades.
The news comes just after another longtime Democratic Party leader, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, announced she was retiring.
Schumer voted against the bipartisan package to end the longest government shutdown in US history, but was immediately met with anger from fellow Dems for failing to prevent eight Democratic defections that allowed the measure to advance, which included Republicans making no concessions on keeping Obamacare subsidies due to expire at the end of this year.
“Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said on X.
“If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?”

“Tonight is another example of why we need new leadership,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), who launched his primary challenge to longtime Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) last month, wrote on X.
“If @ChuckSchumer were an effective leader, he would have united his caucus to vote ‘No’ tonight and hold the line on healthcare.”

Other Democratic lawmakers, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, also lashed out the Schumer.
“Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength,” said Newsom.
“Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans. The American people need more from their leaders.”
“Ending the shutdown shouldn’t come at the expense of health care for tens of millions of Americans,” Hochul said.
“This deal paves the way for devastating premium hikes that will drive up costs for New Yorkers. Count me out.”
The ire of Democrats towards Schumer comes after Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) announced that lawmakers agreed to give Democrats a vote on extending the enhanced Obamacare subsidies (a key point Democrats would not budge on during the shutdown).
However, Thune did not guarantee its passage and even House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) hasn’t committed to taking the measure up in the House.
Republicans also agreed to rehire federal workers who were laid off during the shutdown and provide back pay to all government employees who went without pay during the funding lapse.
Schumer has been in the crosshairs of many within the Democratic Party for months now, with many insiders saying that Schumer has lost control of the party to radical, far-left Democrats.
As previously reported by The Horn News, Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), the Senate Majority Whip, recently quipped on the Senate floor that Schumer was now controlled by radicals in his party.
“The Minority Leader is now a puppet of the radical, extreme, dangerous, scary wing of his party,” Barrasso warned voters.
Barrasso said Schumer “huddled with far-left activist groups for months before the shutdown” and orchestrated the government shutdown together with them.
“They organized a war room. They’re calling the tune. Senator Schumer even gloated to Punchbowl News: ‘We thought about this long in advance.’ This is a premeditated, political game for Senator Schumer and the Democrats,” Barrasso said.
Barrasso quoted the head of far-left activist group Indivisible, who said seven months ago that “Senator Schumer should step aside as leader. Every Democrat in the Senate should call for him to do so.”
It appears that prediction is now becoming a very real reality for the Democratic Party.
