In the debate surrounding the funding of Planned Parenthood, those who defend the abortion provider love to cite the statistic that abortions only make up 3% of the services offered.
It’s a disgusting lie, used to manipulate the public into believing Planned Parenthood is a necessity for women’s health.
In reality, Planned Parenthood is responsible for a third of our nation’s abortions — mass murder being funding by your tax dollars.
And they’re trying to cover it up.
A recent investigation into the statistic reveals that the numbers parroted by Planned Parenthood are incredibly inaccurate, used to defuse Americans’ righteous anger toward the organization.
A video by Live Action gives a rundown as to how Planned Parenthood arrived at the 3% statistic, and it is clearly fudged in order to hide the fact that Planned Parenthood is primarily a network of abortion clinics.
The common-sense assumption from the statistic would be that Planned Parenthood spends 97% of its time and money on services other than abortions. But that’s where the credibility falls apart.
The statistic of 3% is calculated by dividing the number of abortions by the number of “services” that Planned Parenthood offers. These “services” are defined as any, “discrete clinical interaction.”
For example, if a woman receives an abortion along with 3 other associated services (like an STD test, blood pressure screening, or anesthesia), Planned Parenthood only counts 25% of her visit as an abortion. The Live Action video points out, with these calculations, even if 100% of the patients receive an abortion, the organization would still claim that only 25% of their services are abortions.
To find out the true percentage for how many patients go to Planned Parenthood for an abortion, divide 323,999 (the total number of abortions they performed this year… larger than the population of St. Louis), by 2.5 million (the total number of patients who visited a clinic this year), and you get 13%.
1 in every 8 patients that go to Planned Parenthood are getting an abortion. That’s more than four times what the organization claims.
And this statistic hasn’t been manipulated to fill a political agenda,’
It’s just a cold, hard — and tragic — fact.
