Europe’s comet-chasing space probe Rosetta performed its final task Friday, dipping out of orbit for a slow-motion crash onto the icy surface of the alien world it’s been following for more than a decade.
Mission controllers lost contact with the probe as expected after it hit the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, marking the planned end of a 12-year mission, the European Space Agency said.
“Farewell Rosettta, you’ve done the job,” said mission manager Patrick Martin. “That is space science at its best.”
Scientists sent their final command to the probe late Thursday, ordering Rosetta to fire its thrusters for 208 seconds and perform a last series of scientific measurements as it swooped toward the surface of the 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) wide comet.
Because of the distance between the comet and Earth, confirmation of the impact at 1039 GMT took about 40 minutes to reach ESA’s mission control in Darmstadt, Germany.
Jan Woerner, the head of the European Space Agency, said the 1.4 billion euro ($1.57 billion) mission was already a success. Aside from sending a lander onto the surface of comet 67P in November 2014 — a cosmic first — the Rosetta mission has collected vast amounts of data that researchers will spend many more years analyzing.
Scientists have already heralded a number of discoveries about the chemical composition of the comet that provide crucial insights into the formation of the solar system and theories about the origin of life on Earth.
The controlled descent took place at about 90 centimeters per second — roughly half walking speed — giving Rosetta a chance to snap some unprecedented low-altitude images of the comet that could reveal surface features as small as an inch (2.5 centimeter).
Andrea Accomazzo, the spacecraft operations manager, said the mission had been a huge challenge and should be considered an achievement “not just for ESA, but for mankind.” Should Earth ever be threatened by an asteroid, the experience gained from the Rosetta mission would prove valuable, he said.

I just want to know if they found any shovel ready jobs there.
None there but our politicians are sure piling up the BS for us to shovel through in the next 4 years.
Maybe we can send our exaulted LEADER/occupant of the White house AND FAMILY first TO CHECK IT OUT
He will just HAVE to bring his Golf Clubs with him….
GAFAW…. GAFAW
Its not up to the government to supply it’s citizens with JOBS.
Governments job is to protect its citizens, and provide a stably economy.
By enabling the Entrepreneurs of this country to do business around the world,
and make the playing field EVEN, This country of our would TAKE OFF!!!!
22 YEARS in business, and it took 28 months after Barry was in office to close it.
All because of Health Insurance.
Imagine 13 men working for you, with a monthly premium cost of $1207.00 per family plan.
In less than two years, BC/BS raised the premium to $1970.00 per month per plan.
That’s $9919.00 per month more.
Sales, and the drop in the economy, from 2008/09/10/11 killed my $ 110000.00 a year,
65 ~ 70 hour a week job.
And the ex Secretary of State, thinks she’s going to keep Barry’s policy’s alive…………
When will the Left understand, that this person has been lying for 40 years, and has in essence
done NOTHING for the People of The United States, except assist in getting more of our men and woman killed
in battle, killed in our Embassy in Libya, and since allowing UNVETTED MUSLIMS INTO OUR COUNTRY, not protecting our borders, and believing that what SHE is doing is correct, has killed dozen’s more.
What Difference does it make????
Well HC, DOES NOT DESERVE AN OUNCE OF RESPECT, FROM ANYONE IN THIS COUNTRY.
Trump = Closed Borders, Trade Deals that work in conjunction with United States interests in mind, not the US Politicians or the Foreign Countries we’re dealing with.
I cant wait to see the pink slips being handed out…. and watch the RATS scurrying out the back doors of the White House.
GO TRUMP!!!!!
they will assimilate to OUR Cultural way of Living and thinking, has abetted in the slaughter of dozens of American Citizens
Somehow the last line in my last post ended up in the wrong spot.
You all understand where I was heading with my NARRATIVE…………
Ever notice that what you type, sometimes does not always come out correctly?
David: When are you going to learn how to paragraph properly? That would make your posts more readable.
OK! For those who will take an active stand against Mrs. H. Clinton, first read this post to decide if you agree. If you do not agree then do nothing, but if you agree then copy this and demand your Representatives do something about it.
This law, 18 US Code 2071 (b), is the law Mrs. H. Clinton violated while holding office as the United States Secretary of State. Here is the reading of the appropriate code section:
(b)
“Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States. As used in this subsection, the term “office” does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.”
The whole paragraph has compound sentences: “The structure of a compound sentence sends certain messages to readers, no matter how you fill in the blanks. First, it tells readers that the sentence contains two relatively important ideas, each one deserving its own independent clause. Second, it tells readers that these two ideas are approximately equal in importance, since they are balanced as a pair. And third, it alerts readers to the relationship between the two ideas, depending on the connector. For example, and suggests that the two ideas are being added together, but indicates that they are being contrasted, and or tells us that they are alternatives. A semicolon suggests balance between two similar or sharply contrasting statements.”
By following the rules of punctuation we can easily and accurately settle on the things she willfully did.
First Mrs. Clinton did have custody of records, documents or other things (electronic documents). Next she did willfully and unlawfully conceal or destroy the same.
So let’s break this down to her (Mrs. Clinton’s) actual actions pertaining to files that were considered work related. Mrs. Clinton did willfully and unlawfully initiate work related documents to be placed on her private computer. Mrs. Clinton did willfully and unlawfully allow work related documents to be removed or destroyed from her private computer. We could proceed further, however those two actions alone fulfill the requirements to be prosecuted under the law as shown in this document. Even if Mrs. Clinton is not fined under this title (18 US Code 2071 (b) or imprisoned, she is still disqualified (if found guilty) to hold any office under the United States as per the cited US Code. However, Mrs. Clinton has admitted and the FBI has stated she did in fact do these actions. You should take notice that “intent” is not mentioned in this section of the Code.
Any person with the knowledge of and the authority to take legal action to implement this US Code against Mrs. H. Clinton and does not do so is guilty of dereliction of duty. If the legal action allowed and demanded by this US Code is not taken in a timely manner then action could be implied as “election tampering” which would give the President reason to intervene on behalf of Mrs. Clinton. A pardon usually cannot take place unless the person is first charged with a federal crime but the President may have other options. For example this …Yep. In 1866, the Supreme Court ruled in Ex parte Garland that the pardon power “extends to every offence known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment.” (In that case, a former Confederate senator successfully petitioned the court to uphold a pardon that prevented him from being disbarred.) Generally speaking, once an act has been committed, the president can issue a pardon at any time—regardless of whether charges have even been filed.
That is called taking care of your pears, or corruption by the common folks.
If I as a lay person can find this then the FBI cannot ignore the facts. There is nothing in the law that demands there to be or have been a consideration of intent. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. We have all heard that and many have had that applied to their actions and went to jail over.
