3 big Clinton lies from Dem debate

Thursday night’s democratic debate less than a week before New York’s primary was a heated one. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders squared off, with Clinton getting caught in 3 major lies.

Her intent was to mar the voting record of her rival. But Hillary Clinton also cast aspersions on the presidential record of her husband in testy exchanges with Bernie Sanders over Wall Street regulation.

A look at some of her claims in Thursday night’s Democratic presidential debate and how they compare with the facts:

—

CLINTON: “I’m the only one on this stage who did not vote to deregulate swaps and derivatives, as Sen. Sanders did … and that contributed to the collapse of Lehman Brothers and started the cascade.”

THE FACTS: The legislation in question was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton was in no position to vote for — or against — it because she was not in the Senate at the time. It’s true that Sanders voted for the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, which deregulated many financial instruments that were later blamed for intensifying the 2008 financial crisis. Once it passed Congress, Bill Clinton signed it. Hillary Clinton, who became a senator in 2001, is always quick to credit her husband’s economic management, but in this exchange she essentially, if inadvertently, pinned part of the responsibility for the meltdown on the stroke of his pen.

She said the deregulation contributed to Lehman’s collapse and that, along with a few big failures in the insurance and mortgage industries, “actually caused the Great Recession.”

—

SANDERS: “When this campaign began, I said that we got to end the starvation minimum wage of $7.25, raise it to $15. Secretary Clinton said let’s raise it to $12. There’s a difference.”

CLINTON: “I have said from the very beginning that I supported the fight for $15.”

THE FACTS: It depends on what the meaning of “minimum” is. Clinton has said she supports legislation that calls for a $12-an-hour wage floor, and would encourage some cities and states to push it as high as $15. The graduated scale is a response to concerns that some localities would not be able to support a $15 minimum without suffering a loss of jobs.

—

CLINTON: “I stood up against the behaviors of the banks when I was a senator. I called them out on their mortgage behavior.”

SANDERS: “Oh my goodness, they must have been really crushed by this.”

THE FACTS: Sanders had reason to be sarcastic about Clinton’s claim. She has repeatedly cited a speech she gave to the financial industry in December 2007 as proof that she gave Wall Street a dressing down for its behavior as the sector slipped into crisis. In reality, she delivered a much more mixed message.

In a video of the speech obtained by ProPublica, she thanked her “wonderful donors” in the audience, said banks were not the main villains in the emerging crisis, “not by a long shot,” and praised Wall Street for its contribution to the economy. At the same time, she said Wall Street had a hand in worsening the crisis and called for voluntary steps on foreclosures and subprime mortgages.

      Agree, but Trump is not
qualified, psychologically or experience (statesmanship) to be POTUS, in my opinion. He has repeatedly shown
himself to be a spoiled brat, which is unacceptable on the world stage. Look at the
third grader exchanges between he and Cruz. The world is laughing at us, and worried about what the selfish (most of what he says begins with the word I) brat is going to do, if elected. Hillary, on the other hand, (socialist/communist) would be, and do, far worse, in my opinion. This could be the last election; we’ll see.

He may not act politically correct but he is light years ahead of the Dems on the real issues Americans are facing.

He’s the only somebody with cahonies enough to stand up for America and not take a bunch of crap from any other leader. You lead from a position of strength not from a position of apology like Kerry and O.

God I hope Trump gets in the White House to save this nation.

Elaine, the only one who can save this nation is Jesus Christ. If you think some other man can do that, especially one who thinks he’s done nothing that requires repentance, you will be sorely disappointed!

Even from a Constitutional standpoint, it is Congress that must approve the wall and many of the other changes the candidates are proposing. Unless, of course, you approve of the illegal executive orders the current occupant of the White House uses.

John and Elaine I’m with ya. Trump and only Trump. I like Cruz but I do not like the precedent it sets not truly being a Natural born citizen. If he’d been at least born on American soil it would set a stronger precedent.. As we can see what destruction can be done by a person who is not truly for America s greatness.

Excuse me, I am a “natural born American Citizen” yet I was born in Panama. Of course my father was in the U.S. Navy stationed in the Canal Zone and my mother was an American Citizen. Listen IF Obama qualified as a Natural Born American Citizen seems to me ANYBODY could be POTUS as long as they have the “connections” as well as the money to be able to either hide their Birth Certificate or have a new one forged what is to stop anyone from infiltrating our countries highest office? I would still like to see Obama’s birth certificate.

The original one not the fake he produced. The media and Hillary keeps saying why is it taking so long for Sanders to produce his tax returns? I am not a Sanders fan but fair is fair that being said why didn’t Hillary and the media push as hard for Obama to produce his birth certificate. That took over 3 years to come up with a fake one.

The journey which led to the economic collapse of 2008 began during the Clinton years. Bill enacted several policies that led to the bubbles which plunged the nation into recession when they exploded.

Hillary Clinton has no problem whoring herself out to any willing suitor. If elected president she will continue to do the same thing. There is no national secret or influence that will not have a price tag placed on it. The donations will go into the Clinton Foundation coffers rather than into the nation’s coffers. I never thought I would see a Democrat presidential candidate that was so bad that they would make a socialist appear to be reasonable.
