With a formal announcement expected within the next few days (or even hours), presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden announced a major move in the running mate search.
But not before President Donald Trump had time to weigh in.
The Biden campaign announced nine veteran Democratic political operatives and strategists that have been assembled to help the soon-to-be-named vice presidential candidate get up to speed on the campaign.
Whoever Biden names already has a team of advisors already working for them, anchored by two senior veterans of former President Barack Obama’s administration — Liz Allen, Obama’s former communications director, and Sheila Nix, former chief of staff of second lady Jill Biden.
Appearing on Fox Sports Talk Radio show on Tuesday, Trump weighed in on the upcoming Biden campaign announcement — and said it was “insulting” to men that Biden only considered women as his running mate.
In the interview, Trump said, “I would be inclined to go a different route than what he’s done,” indicating that Biden “roped himself off into, you know, a certain group of people.”
Biden is expected to announce his running mate in the coming days ahead of next week’s Democratic National Convention.
Of Biden’s vow to choose a woman, Trump said, “Some people would say that men are insulted by that. And some people would say it’s fine.”
Biden campaign spokesperson Andrew Bates dismissed the attack and said Trump is “easily threatened.”
