There’s a straight-talking, fiercely independent candidate running for president, beloved by millions for his no-nonsense approach and feared by the establishment bosses who can’t control him.
He’s brash and outspoken. He won’t be bought, and was told he never had a chance at the nomination.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was the Democrats equivalent of GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Politically, Sanders may be on another planet from Trump. But the two have a few things in common, starting with the fact that they’re being undermined by their own parties.
Trump managed to overcome it anyway, but Sanders hasn’t been so lucky – in part because the party bosses had a single candidate from Day One that they had decided was due for a coronation.
Here are the biggest backroom forces that cheated Sanders out of a fair shot at the presidency:
—
1 – Debbie Wasserman Schultz
As chair of the Democratic National Committee, she’s supposed to be neutral and impartial. But as former co-chair of Clinton’s 2008 campaign, how is that even possible?
Answer: it’s not.
Schultz gave Clinton every possible advantage. She has scheduled fewer debates, so the lesser-known Sanders gets less exposure, and many of them were held at terrible times, like on a Saturday night or at the same time as a playoff football game.
She even briefly crippled the Sanders campaign by cutting off his access to voter rolls — making it impossible for him to raise money — after a rouge campaign staffer supposedly accessed private Clinton data.
He was quickly fired, but that didn’t stop Schultz from damaging the Sanders campaign in retaliation, and it ended only after Sanders filed a lawsuit against the DNC.
—
2 – David Brock
This one-time Clinton critic is now a family friend and even runs a pro-Hillary super PAC.
More importantly, he runs two progressive news websites, including the recently purchased Blue Nation Review, that he uses to shamelessly promote Clinton to Democratic voters.
BNR is widely read by idealistic young liberals and was very recently friendly territory for Sanders.
“Now, suddenly, it is being seen by some as the journalism equivalent of a Clinton campaign surrogate,” wrote Lloyd Grove of The Daily Beast.
—
3 – Paul Krugman
This Nobel-winning economist is a darling of the left. Once upon a time, he was also a progressive champion.
Now, he’s turning his column in The New York Times into a Hillary cheerleading section, using it to push the Clinton agenda and hammer Sen. Sanders — one of the most glaring examples of the mainstream media’s pro-Clinton bias.
Even if you disagree with Sanders, it’s obvious he’s running the most issues-focused campaign in the race, and maybe even in modern presidential politics. Yet Krugman used his column to unfairly bash Sanders, saying the Vermont senator “seemed to go for easy slogans over hard thinking.”
—
4 – Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright
Donald Trump got yelled at by liberals for accusing Clinton of playing “the woman card.”
But is it true? Recently, Albright claimed women who don’t vote for Clinton are going to hell.
Yes, she really said that.
“There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other,” she said at a campaign event in February, a blatant attempt to shame women into voting for Clinton because of her gender.
That kind of identity politics is as ugly as it gets.
—
5 – Superdelegates
These are longtime party loyalists and established insiders who have prime backroom positions at the Democratic National Convention.
They get to vote for whoever they want — and there are hundreds and hundreds of them – and most committed to Clinton months ago, before a single primary vote was cast.
While just 39 superdelegates have committed to Sanders, Clinton has more than 500 in her pocket already.
No surprise, many of them are “longtime insiders” who hold these positions because of their work for the party in the 1990s… when Bill Clinton was president.
Quid pro quo.
With all that going against him, it would be perfectly understandable if Sanders were bitter about losing to Clinton.
But he does have another option – and it’s one suggested by Donald Trump:
Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats—both with delegates & otherwise. He should show them, & run as an Independent.

Main Street says
Once the party of the working class. Now the party of sneaky, self-serving elitists. Once a party accused of harboring right wingers and spending too much on defense. Now a party of extreme leftists and pro-weakening of America. Of course we can’t forget the sneaks in the GOP who are against Trump because he tells the facts.
OracleGuy says
Trump wouldn’t know a fact if it bit him on the butt. He lies more than Cruz ever did.

George says
But Trump doesn’t lie as much as Hillary. Her legacy of dishonesty make the organized crime figures look like choir boys.
Sheila says
And why doesn’t anyone bring up the Vince Foster/Hilary incident?!
I wonder !? You should too.
George says
I want to remind readers of these comments of one thing. IF Hillary gets elected, she will be the third consecutive Democrat potus to be impeachable. Her husband was the first. Obama is the second. He is eligible for impeachment now if Congress had the back bone to do it. Then along comes Hillary. With her record of dishonest and misleading statements of the Benghazi ordeal,, he use of a private email server, and the use of her office as Secretary of State to raise money for the Clinton Foundation, she is eligible for impeachment.
The reports of how people who have previous connections with Hillary have attempted to stifle Bernie Sanders are not surprising. They just go to show even more about just how dishonest the Hillary camp is.
John says
Like Donald said he should run as a third party for the way he is treated. If Donald does not get the nominee then he will probably run as a third party and him and Sanders would make a great team for neither can be bought.
Confoundmeonce says
Really Oracleguy, ?? And what gives you So Much insight ? Out with IT >>>We could all use More ”Clarity ” , couldn`t we ?? Isn`t it wonderful we have Such a Guru out here telling us all How It Really IS !’ TRUMP, You should look this Fellow UP and Find out What your Next Move Should be. Sic Not. WE are so Fed up with Professional -grandfathered- in politicians I Pray for Many more ‘unprofessional Politicians to come out and Stand UP for One man who isn`t afraid to Speak Up for us,..Trump ! He will be a Great President !!
Dane says
Trump should pick Sanders as VP running mate as that would put a complete stop to all the DC BS and ilensure victory in November for all Americans on both sides of the isle
William says
YES ! I’ve been saying this from the very start when I saw the original list of candidates….Decision made. Trump is appointed by his Party so he is on first……Sanders is the Perfect Veep that would help LANDSLIDE THE VOTES… I am a Conservative from Vermont , who has always voted for a Republican President and Governor , while voting Democrat Senator Leahy ,and Independent Senator Sanders…..I have witnessed Bernie in Action and I believe he should be there……I will be in conflict if Trump runs against Bernie…..more likely to vote for Bernie, but more than pleased to see Bernie in the Oval Office with Trump…….
Kimberly says
You cannot possibly be a Conservative if you’d vote for a Socialist. I guess you simply don’t understand what these terms mean.
Terry says
Willam have you lost your mind? You don’t know what you are if you would vote for a socialist you’re sure not a conservative!!!!
Tommy Kelly says
William has been imbibing a little too much of the maple syrup he is supposed to be just collecting for his Vermont retailers.
Terry says
That goes for you to Diane how can you call yourself a conservative and want a socialist to run on a republican ticket you need to do some research!!!!
Wendy says
Never the party of the working class. They just want the schmucks to think that in order to get their votes. The platform they’ve campaigned on for decades has done nothing but widen the income gap under the guise of “helping” the economically disadvantaged. Like saving fish from drowning.
Ellen says
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz may be the only woman I have more distain for than Hillary Clinton.
Gerry says
She is a POS snake who belongs under the same rock as clinton, obozo, albutbright, and the rest of these low life scum.
Wendy says
Not Lerner?
pop diesel says
and why is any one surprised??? any one following , working for, or aiding Clinton is more than likely a back stabbing snake with the inability to freely form an individualized cognitive substantive thought, that is, without being told by the media what to think
glenn davis says
Really? I don’t know of any woman other than Hillary who is proud of getting four fellow Americans killed (not that it matters now, anyway).
Wendy says
Wonder how many people died for want of funds for medical care because they were trying to fend off Lerner’s IRS conservative-hunts?
dntgiveup1 says
I couldn’t agree with you more, that is one political figure that is as nauseating as vomit itself.
GEORGE says
DONT FOGET PALOISIE SHE TO IS A HORESES ASS AS ALL DUMB DEMS, AND THAT WAS PUTTING IT NICELY.
Tina says
I’ll put it to you like this. Most American women here in the United States are not follower’s. Not one of the above mentioned people could ever persuade me to vote for one particular person just because they say so. If for some reason Trump is ousted by the RNC, I will vote for Sander’s just for spite and I think a lot of American’s will do the same thing. I for one am sick of hearing the Clinton name. They had their chance and now they need to retire and be unseen and unheard of. Maybe Trump won’t do all he say’s he will do, but we haven’t had a President in a long time that has done anything, but mess up and get us in more trouble. I’d like to at least give Trump a chance. He doesn’t let anyone rule him and that is one thing I like about him. I’m sure he has sense enough to ask people that have been around politics for a long time for their thought’s on situation’s before he just jumps in there and makes a serious decision that might affect our nation. Just because Hillary Clinton is a woman is no reason to vote for her. I could care less about the nationality or gender of the person running for office just as long as they have our country at heart instead of their own agenda at heart.
dntgiveup1 says
Well stated Tina and I’m with you 100%
OracleGuy says
Tina, perhaps you should spend a few minutes at this site to learn that you don’t use apostrophes to form plurals : http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/apostro.asp Then your next post won’t contain glaring errors like this “their thought’s on situation’s”.
Gloria says
Get off your sassy butt. The message was clear tho there are errors in grammar, as with all comments!
Tommy Kelly says
OracleGuy is a recovering apostropheholic who has been apostrophe clean and sober for the last 20 years and he wants everyone to know it.

Sheila says
Who died and made you the Grammer God?!
Wendy says
If you’re going to give someone a chance, why not give a third party a chance?
Bert says
Tina you got it 100’%.
Daryl Davis says
Bernie has been systematically screwed by the Clinton Machine. Too bad. He’s the ‘straight up’ guy on the other side. While I don’t agree with his politics, I absolutely don’t agree with anything Hillary stands for.. if she stand for anything but greed corruption and dishonesty.
I just don’t understand why any American would support her. A Hillary term will be a continuation of Obama’s failed policies, the prostitution of the Constitution and the inevitable downfall of the Republic.
Kathleen O'Malley says
Since Trump and Bernie are not receiving the support from their parties then both should run as Independents. The American electorate is disillusioned with both Party’s elitists who care more about power and lining their pockets than the American. This primary season is the result of such
Tommy Kelly says

Roper says
Then I guess I’m going to hades because I’m certainly not voting for Hillary. She is incompetent at best, makes her own rules and laws, a liar, can not be trusted, has degraded too many women – all of Billy boy’s conquests, and is totally disgusting as a human being.
Tommy Kelly says
And those are her GOOD points! {:^)
Ellen says
The inclusion of the Super Delegate support for Clinton before the convention is really biased reporting by the Democratic Party. It is not reflective of the will of the Democratic voters. The huge number of Super Delegates who vote the will of the party elite all but negate any challenge by an outsider. Sanders was targeted with an almost full encumbrance of these delegates making it appear as though Clinton was winning by huge numbers. While she still remains the favorite of the electorate, it is not nearly by the margin the delegate totals show.
It is a clear case of manipulation of numbers to promote a perception that Clinton is the hands down front runner without challenge and that is far from the truth. Sanders is running a viable campaign which just might mean Clinton will not win the nomination purely through the delegates she earns in the primaries and will have to rely on the party to subvert the will of the people. Thank heavens the Republicans gave up trying to disenfranchise their own voters. It’s time the Democrats did the same. If Clinton/Sanders must go to a contested convention, so be it. She clearly is not as popular as the party wants everyone to believe.
Gerry says
I don’t like sanders and would never vote for him just as I would never vote for the “witch” but just like Trump got the shaft from his own party. I wonder how many of these low lifes would “not back sanders” if he actually was the nominee just like a lot of the rinos with Trump.
Steven says
A Trump/Sanders ticket, would be terrific.
dntgiveup1 says
The same thing entered my mind, that would blow both parties them out of the water…
Sheila says
I’d vote for that !!!
Rollin says
The opening paragraphs of this article make Bernie THE SOCIALIST sound like George Washington.
He is NOT. He’s a decrepit old Socialist who honeymooned in Moscow, who never held a job until the Gubmint.
Undermining HIM is an OK think.
Problem is, the UNDERMINERS are supporting iLLARY THE PATHOLOGICAL LIAR.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
JNTV says
Voters have robust common sense. 21st century is not for the dynasty politicians. People will take into their equation, JOBS, National Security,
Legal Immigration, terrorist threat from Middle East, Equal membership dues from the Allies and NATO financial burden. All these topics are important to build a great Nation. Same old democratic wine shall ruin the country. It is fair to say, establishment politics is in disarray. The only bright light to move forward is from Mr. Donald Trump, “Make America Great Again” JNTV
Don says
Just to show the “STUPIDITY” of some of the women Hillary supporters, how can Hillary claim to be a champion for womens rights, while at the same time, support ISLAM, the religion that makes women and young girls the personal ‘PROPERTY’ of men???
Ernie says
Trump has it right – again. Sanders has been treated very badly by the Democrats and should run an independent campaign. After all, he has identified as an Independent for many years. He just might win the election! He surely has the least negative identification among current candidates.
Justin W says
Although the Democrats have conspired to undermine his candidacy, he has done remarkably well against Hillary. That should be a cause for concern in the Clinton campaign. She is very beatable. The road ahead for Hillary is likely to be very bad.
diane says
Bernie is being cheated:
1) Washington…73 percent of votes sanders
10 superdelegates ..clinton
0 superdelegates…sanders
2) Minnesota….61percent of the votes sanders
11 superdelegates …clinton
3 superdelegates…sanders
3) Colorado……59 percent of the votes sanders
10 superdelegates …clinton
0 superdelegates…sanders
4)New Hampshire…60 percent of the votes sanders
6 superdelegates..clinton
0 superdelegates..sanders
An example of what is being done to Bernie with the help of the corporate media..and we call this a democracy .
Constitutionalist says
diane-
i know that Sanders is being cheated; The Horn reports nearly every Tuesday or Wednesday that there are “voting irregularities” in every state The Liar has “won” so far, whether it’s BJ Billy blocking access to Sanders voters, or tens of thousands of voters “inexplicably” finding out that their party affiliation has been “changed” w/o their knowledge or consent, or if only a tenth of the polling places are open or what-have-you…all of it boils down to cheating by The Liar and her allies(mostly of the Satanist cabal, i daresay).
i’ve also often posted @ the Horn that virtually the ONLY chance Bernie will have to win the nomination is after The Liar has been indicted, and/or if he gets proof of The Liar’s complicity in conspiring to cheat him…and carries it out! Sanders has been altogether too “nice” during the debates; The Liar is EMINENTLY attackable on a BROAD(no pun intended) array of issues relevant to her candidacy and fitness to lead, but afaik, hasn’t said squat in that direction. Noble of him, but ineffective. He should have been looking into hiring private detectives or using his Congressional contacts to tap into NSA files(since they tap EVERYONE) so he CAN get the proof he needs before his sailing ship is left far behind by The Liar’s Gulfstream. Oh, and according to Larry Nichols, she’s a witch, too – literally a member of a coven! So she’s enlisted the aid of the spiritual forces of darkness…qu’elle suprise! A liar and murderer allies herself with he who was a murderer and liar from the Beginning.
The thing is, most voters KNOW this, on a gut, intuitive level – and come election time, will refuse to vote for her. That’s why it’ll be Trump in a landslide against The Liar – but he’ll have a MUCH tougher go of it if it’s “The Bern” against “The Donald.” i liked Donald’s advice for Bernie, too – run as an independent! People will respect that MUCH more than if Sanders continues to roll over hoping to get his widdle bewwy wubbed.
