ABC News’ Matthew Dowd, a political analyst for the liberal network, is apologizing for his recent attack on Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.
Stefanik is a female supporter of President Donald Trump — and according to a tweet by Dowd on Wednesday, that makes her dumb.
“Elise Stefanik is a perfect example why just electing someone because they are a woman or a millennial doesn’t necessarily get you the leaders we need,” said ABC News’ “independent” political analyst.
He was responding to Stefanik’s defense of Trump on Wednesday during the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry.
That wasn’t all. Dowd defended his tweet by claiming that America’s “first order of business should be electing people with integrity” and said critics were “missing the point.”
After facing an avalanche of criticism, Dowd tried to delete his 27-word tweet… but not before savvy internet users got a picture of it.

“I think people are misunderstand my tweet. So I will delete,” Dowd later said. “I am saying just saying we need more millennials or more women isn’t going to solve the problem of needing more leaders with integrity. Vote integrity no matter what,” he said.
Critics pounded Dowd for his blatant sexism.
I do not think she consistently wins NY-21 by double digit margins because her district wants to make a demographic statement; her views align with her district which also went for Trump by double digits.
This is an astonishingly bad statement from an “independent” analyst. https://t.co/ah47RVgfsQ

Boy, a lot of people at ABC News wish women weren't so mouthy these days.
If you don't put her in her place, soon Rep. Stefanik will be saying that powerful men involved in underage sex trafficking should be held accountable! https://t.co/f2GyrVLopB

One user on Twitter noted the contrast of Dowd’s thoughts on Republican Elise Stefanik to his glowing praise of freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

Stefanik herself responded by sarcastically thanking Dowd —
Thx @RepMarkMeadows ! It’s a good thing I wasn’t raised to measure my self-worth or professional work based on tweets from self-important @MSNBC commentators like Dowd (who is he again?)! I earn support from #NY21 voters bc of my focus on keeping my promises & delivering #Results https://t.co/o3BvcWh1NQ
