Former President Barack Obama is a “parasite” on the Democratic Party that used them as a “host” for his own ambitions, insiders complained.
President Joe Biden makes Obama “nervous” and is uninspiring. And Obama worried his former vice president wasn’t up for the challenge of the 2020 presidential election or the Oval Office, a new book revealed.
In an explosive new tell-all, “Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaign to Defeat Trump,” author Edward-Isaac Dovere explored internal clashes between top Democratic Party officials in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
And what he found was not very flattering.
“The numbers are hard to ignore: during his eight years in office, Obama oversaw a net loss of 947 state legislative seats, 63 House seats, 11 senators, and 13 governors,” Dovere wrote about the 44th president’s role in the Democrats’ mid-term defeats.
Aides complained he abandoned the party once he was out of office, and blamed him for former President Donald Trump’s victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
“Obama never built a Democratic bench and never cared to, aside from a few scattered candidates who interested him,” Dovere wrote. His defenders said Obama didn’t want to “taint” his legacy “mucking around fundraising” for other Democrats.
Obama later did weigh in on the 2020 election — but what he said about Biden wasn’t exactly reassuring.
According to The Daily Mail, which previewed Dovere’s book:
After Biden decided to run in the 2020 election, Obama couldn’t stop himself from being ‘nervous’.
Dovere writes that Obama knew Biden’s closest advisers and he ‘didn’t think much of them’.
‘Battle for the Soul’ says: ‘He worried that they might have pushed him to run because they wanted one last shot at the big time before retirement, that they had no sense of the current state of politics or the party anymore, and they couldn’t protect him when he didn’t either.
‘I’m rusty,’ Obama would say. ‘God knows how rusty Joe is’.
Dovere says that even after Biden became the Democratic Party’s nominee, he was still anxious because he wasn’t sure that the party had made the right decision, and that he saw Biden as the “compromise candidate” but he “wasn’t exactly inspiring.”
This builds off reports from last year, where Obama warned aides not to “underestimate Joe’s ability to f*** things up.
And it’s only the latest report of intra-party tension.
According to a report released just last week, First Lady Jill Biden reportedly told Vice President Kamala Harris, “Go f*** yourself” during the 2020 presidential campaign on a phone call with her husband’s donors.
“With what he cares about, what he fights for, what he’s committed to, you get up there and call him a racist without basis?” Jill Biden reportedly ask supporters after Harris clashed with her husband at a Democratic presidential debate.
“Go f*** yourself.”
