Cruz impresses Trump with clever border wall plan

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., has a clever plan for the border wall that the mainstream media is refusing to cover — but it has President Donald Trump listening.

Cruz’s idea could easily give the GOP the victory they’re looking for on the southern border. It could give Americans the security they’re demanding. And it wouldn’t cost taxpayers a dime.

Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will be going to jail soon. It’s unlikely he’ll ever get out. Use his money, Cruz says — an estimated $14 billion in assets leftover from years of illegal drug trafficking — to fund the border wall.

It’s based on legislation Cruz proposed in 2017 — and even Democratic lawmakers were forced to agree that it was a good idea.

America’s justice system prevailed today in convicting Joaquín Guzmán Loera, aka El Chapo, on all 10 counts. U.S. prosecutors are seeking $14 billion in drug profits & other assets from El Chapo which should go towards funding our wall to #SecureTheBorder. https://t.co/hPwEUVM6SP

“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way to secure our southern border, and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals,” Cruz szaid.

“By leveraging any criminally forfeited assets of El Chapo and other murderous drug lords, we can offset the cost of securing our border and make meaningful progress toward delivering on the promises made to the American people.”

The scoop here is forfeiture, which was revived by the Justice Department in 2017 — a move spearheaded by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The measure would allow the federal government to seize and use Guzman’s money: the judge would simply have to order a forfeiture along with the sentencing.

Cruz’ proposed legislation states that any funds handed over to the federal government by way of drug cartel activity should be reserved for security along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Reporters recently asked Trump what he thought of it — and he’s coming around to the idea.
