Texas Sen. Ted Cruz just revealed his plans to pay for the border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border — and his idea is so brilliant, even Democrats have to agree it makes sense.
On Tuesday, Cruz proposed a bill to force Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to pay for the wall.
The bill, nicknamed the EL CHAPO Act, would direct the estimated $14 billion in criminal forfeitures seized from Guzman’s drug proceeds and use it to pay for border security projects, such as President Donald Trump’s wall.

The proposed bill is formally named the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order (EL CHAPO) Act.
If passed, it would set aside “any illegally obtained profits resulting from the large-scale, criminal drug trafficking enterprise led by” Mexican drug lords like Guzman “for the completion of a wall along the border between the United States and Mexico for the purpose of stemming the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States and furthering the Nation’s security.”
“El Chapo” was extradited to the United States early in 2017 and has pleaded “not guilty” to the 17-charges against him, which includes the criminal distribution of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and more.
Since arriving in the United States, “El Chapo” has whined and complained about the tough treatment he’s received in U.S. prison.
