In September of this year, a team of world-renowned investigators accussed JonBenet Ramsey’s older brother, Burke, of being his sister’s killer in the CBS series, “The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey”.
At the time, The Horn News warned: “At the very least, it seems likely that the Ramseys could try to sue in civil court over the claims made in the series.”
Now it has happened – and the size of the lawsuit Burke Ramsey has slammed the network with is staggering.
On Wednesday, Burke Ramsey’s attorney announced he was suing CBS and others for a stunning $750 million, saying his reputation was ruined after their television series concluded he killed his 6-year-old sister two decades ago.
In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, Burke Ramsey claims that the network, its production company and the experts interviewed in the series on the unsolved murder conspired to defame him for publicity and profit. The series aired in September ahead of the 20th anniversary of JonBenet’s death.
The beauty pageant star was found dead in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado, the day after Christmas in 1996. A prosecutor cleared her parents and brother in 2008 based on DNA evidence. But the district attorney currently overseeing the case has said it was premature to exonerate the Ramseys and ordered additional tests using new DNA testing technology that authorities hope will further the investigation.
Police have collected and studied thousands of pieces of evidence and say the case remains open.
CBS spokesman Dustin Smith declined to comment on the lawsuit, which is the second Burke Ramsey has filed over the television series.
In October, Ramsey, 29, sued a forensic pathologist featured on the show who said he bludgeoned his sister to death. The pathologist is also named in the latest lawsuit, which was filed in Michigan, where Burke Ramsey lives.
The new lawsuit says CBS and its featured experts set out to conduct a “sham reinvestigation” of the murder with “the preconceived the story line” that Ramsey killed his sister and conspired with his parents to cover it up.
“The accusation that Burke Ramsey killed his sister was based on a compilation of lies, half-truths, manufactured information, and the intentional omission and avoidance of truthful information about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey,” the lawsuit says.

This young man has been tormented his entire life. The fact that his sister was murdered while he was asleep in the same house I’d traumatizing enough for a child, but to be accused of the murder must be torturous. CBS should run a prime time special apologizing to Burke and his entire family and then pay him every dime that he is suing for. He is not a public figure by choice and this was not news, only speculation.

Wow, I had just been praying that the truth would come out about JonBenet, that justice would be done to the true killer. The reason I remembered JonBenet was because of an accidental death of a young woman recently, which I have a suspicion it was not an accident, but the parents probably don’t want a JonBenet repeat, so they are publicly saying it was an accident. I don’t have cable, so I did not know about the CBS special. I’m glad CBS is being sued because I’m sick of their lies and half truths and their gross misleading of the public because of the lies. I still hope that the real killer is found, but if Burke is 29, he would have been only nine at the time of the murder, could a nine year old kill a six year old? I know it’s possible but it’s not plausible.
On the JonBenet Ramsey case: If they haven’t already checked the DNA and made a comparison with the
killer’s DNA and all of the Boulder Police’s DNA. This should be done too make certain there wasn’t a dirty
policeman on the force.
What happened to ” innocent until proven guilty”? Sadly, today people are quick to judge without all the evidence and it’s now “guilty until proven innocent”. It’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt. I listened to the series on Jonbenet. I did not hear them accuse Burke of murdering her. They repeatedly said the family had been exonerated. I will say Burke made himself look guilty by the smirks he made during the interview. He had to many smiles on his face which made him look like he was guilty.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT it was in the family. Cant wait until CURRENT DNA testing is done. People who knew them say Burke was always hitting Jonbenet with objects. Mom just blew it off as “kid stuff”. When I saw him on Dr Phil, it was obvious that he is on the autism spectrum – perhaps Aspergers. In any event those kids have no impulse control and are easily angered/frustrated. So, yes, it is very plausible that he whacked her with the flashlight in the head….and all of the rest was staged…..a definite cover up!
