Air France crew furious over sexist rules on Iranian routes

France’s national air company management is meeting Monday with unions worried female cabin crew could be disciplined if they refuse to work the company’s new route to Iran, for which they must wear a headscarf.

Air France plans to start three flights weekly between Paris and Tehran beginning April 17.

A note sent by Air France to female cabin crew employees requires them to wear a headscarf on their arrival in Tehran. They must also wear the uniform’s long-sleeved jacket and trousers, rather than a knee-length dress.

Flore Arrighi, president of cabin crew union UNAC, has asked Air France’s management not to sanction employees who refuse to work the route.

Unions want “a system in which those who go to Tehran will do it voluntarily”, she told France 3 television.

And, absolute power corrupts absolutely…we are at that point…and, there will be rebellion…..the French flight crews have the right not to fly into Tehran…..

Why has the world been bending over backwards to cater to the US for the past century? Most of the rules the world economy operates by (like “country of origin” labeling) were written by the USA. The international language is (American) English (used to be French). Americans either don’t think about it, or consider it to be just and natural that America’s making the rules for the rest of the world. And yet, when this same elitism shows up in another country around non-American values, American elitists are the first to cry “foul.”

If Air France wants the route badly enough, they’ll play by Iran’s rules. If they don’t want to bend enough, Iranians have to leave the country to use Air France’s services. The Muslim world wouldn’t be as powerful as it is if we didn’t want their oil badly enough to play in their sandbox.

Crap. The ‘way things are’ wasn’t put into practice by American citizens, or soldiers, it was allowed to grow & fester by the bleating of the business’ that came up with their garbage. The countries in question, lower their standards by accepting ‘business as usual’ , as they desire the money, as much as those who give it away-for the goods they do indeed get, at a cost to their common man. This is what we fought the Revolution over. I served overseas, ‘The American’ ( citizen), traditionally is a soft touch- we overpaid for services in order to help the folks with their expenses & food for their kids, & we become ‘the bad guys’ because of bad-even horrible orders. ( And, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, does indeed have provision( s ) for disobeying illegal, or immoral orders ). It ain’t our faults, it all comes from higher, organized & institutionalized, , underhanded manipulators who’ve perverted what should have been Golden Opportunties to show what the philosophy behind America, is about, as a good, wholesome example, in hopes the Peoples would discover the meanings’ Truths & make better lives for themselves. Having served overseas, I found that being born in America, is a great thing. I thank God for that & my Country, even my sometimes, disagreeable & ingrateful, sheeplike, & greedy fellow-citizens. There ARE NO means of improving one’s life in many countries, & there’s reasons they want to come here, some dying for that opportunity. The world takes, because that’s what they want. Those who have power, give ( just a wee bit ), in order to maintain it. It’s older than society, but always a battle for ordinary folks, who more often than not, fight their stinking wars, over & over again, for all the same reasons. The Iranian people, likely will leave their country to utilize other forms of transportation, but Iranian people themselves; historically, acknowledge that they give ‘two faces’ to their rulers; one for home & family, the other for their rulers/conquerers. Imagine having to live like that, yet actually, who doesn’t ?

They should all walk out and see if the passengers enjoy a flight without an attendant, or better yet, they should only employ gay attendants, so all those on flight squirm, gotta love it, I don’t see why one culture has to be a part of another culture if they don’t want to be.

Yet you expect American cultural values in every country you visit. Iranian culture has no need to be part of French culture just because a French company owns planes landing in the Iranian airport.

When coming to the U.S., or France are people from a Muslim culture made to disrobe and change to western/French attire?

It’s all about money for the air lines. Tehran should be a no fly zone for all air lines.

Move men stewards to Iran flights, move women stewards to all other flights. Problem solved, although there may be few men stewards willing to serve those flights. Hand out snacks as people check in to go onto the plane, install small soft drink machines on board, and have 1-2 air marshals to keep order and forget about having stewards. If they’re that picky about who brings them a pillow and soft drink, they don’t need a steward.

And there may be women FA’s who don’t have a problem with the headscarves, or even may be Muslim themselves. No need to bar the flights to women willing to make the accomodation.

When you fly into a foreign country you should respect their laws. That is why this should be a route they fly voluntarily. How would you like someone to come to your house and not respect your house rules?

Why ,the hell in security airport they has burqas in Philadelphia ? They employ Muslims but if they came here they should dress like here. Not burqas !!! So in whole world we should bend to Muslims ? Stupidity witch is turning to destruction of all stupid nations who bend to Muslims. So only Russian will survive and China too.

It’s already been resolved. Management backed down. Stewardesses are already required to adhere to this dress code on the Saudi Arabian routes. if airlines see a financial benefit in flying these routes they will realize that “When in Rome…”

No problem with on this issue if ……those Muslim women living here in the good old USA DROP their disguise using the burqas to hide their faces. Why bend backwards to accommodate their sharia law? Remember, when in Rome …
