Joe Biden impeachment plan, by Ted Cruz

President Joe Biden will almost certainly be impeached if Republicans retake control of the House of Representatives following the 2022 midterm elections.

That’s according to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a firebrand conservative leader.

In the wake of cratering approval for Biden’s administration, Cruz said he was “extremely confident” the GOP will retake control of the House — putting his party’s odds at nine in 10 and maybe even higher.

“If we take the House, which I said is overwhelmingly likely, then I think we will see serious investigations of the Biden administration,” Cruz said on a recent podcast.

Cruz said it was a shame that impeachment had become an increasingly common political tool. It was only used once in the United States’ first 200 years, the impeachment of former President Andrew Johnson in 1868.

But the Texas Republican said Democrats set entirely new impeachment standards under former President Donald Trump, “whether it is justified or not.”

“The Democrats weaponized impeachment,” Cruz said. “They used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him.”

“One of the real disadvantages of doing that is: The more you weaponize it, you turn it into a partisan cudgel,” he continued. “You know, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

Cruz predicted that a large GOP victory could create huge pressure for both incumbents and his newly elected colleagues to push for impeachment.

Considering the current crisis at the U.S. Southern border, Cruz said a mandate from the voters would be nearly impossible to ignore.

“I think there are potentially multiple grounds to consider for impeachment,” Cruz said. “Probably the most compelling is the utter lawlessness” at the border.

Biden’s “decision to just defy immigration laws, that’s probably the strongest grounds right now for impeachment.”

“But, there may be others,” he predicted.
