Pop music superstar Prince has died at his home in suburban Minneapolis, according to his publicist.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that the investigation into a death had began on Thursday morning.

Carver County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Kamerud told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that officials are withholding information about the identity of the deceased person until next of kin has been notified. A news release will come afterward.

The Associated Press confirmed the deceased was the pop star.

Prince was reported to have been hospitalized in Illinois on Friday on his way back from a concert in Atlanta. He subsequently appeared at a dance party at Paisley Park.

Prince, the 80’s, and Minneapolis were perfect for each other. I remember his videos from my mid-late 20s. It was a wild crazy time. What the hell happened? Now we’re all so serious. No one is having fun. We need to get back to the attitude of that time. Goodbye, Prince.

I live in St. Paul, across the river from Minneapolis. I can watch the movie “Purple Rain” and remember the old buildings that have been replaced since the 1980s. I worked in construction (demolition/excavation), so I was part of that change and well-paid. Prince did it right. His whole life was partying like it’s 1999. A singer/musician that you didn’t fully appreciate unless seen up close. And I was that fortunate. He died at 57. This is the time that most people start to suffer older age medical problems, so he escapes old age. I’ll remember him as one of the best guitar players of all time.
