MASSIVE beehive found in hospital… after the walls drip honey!

It was a sticky situation.

A British hospital discovered it had become home to more than 100,000 bees when patients noticed honey dripping down the walls.

Beekeepers were summoned to Rockwood Hospital in Cardiff, Wales, after the discovery last month, and found a large colony of bees in the roof above a ward.

Abigail Reade of the Tree Bee Society charity said Thursday that honey was “dripping through the ceiling tiles, it was dripping down the walls.”

She said the hive had gone unnoticed for up to five years. It’s thought warm summer weather melted some of the wax, releasing the honey.

Beekeepers from the society removed some 70,000 bees by cutting a hole in the roof. A second colony was removed from another part of the hospital this week.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

I think ALL hospitals should serve HONEY, Natures perfect food. Possible to survive on honey for MONTHS. And it keeps for YEARS!! Store some for the upcoming food shortages.

I hope that by “removed,” the story means the bees were captured and relocated. With bee populations decreasing at a rapid pace, we need every pollinating honeybee we can save! I’m sure there must be beekeepers in Wales who would be happy to take portions of such a large colony, providing them with more appropriate “housing.”

I’m sure that’s why they responded with beekepers instead of exterminators.

The beekeepers actually search for the queen (each hive has one and only one queen–as she will search out and kill all of her rivals). When they remove the queen, the colony will disperse. Then they can gather the honey–“yum, yum”, as Winnie the Pooh would say. 😀

bottle & sell the honey for $$ for the hospital alone,
    Nice sweet haul.
MNow to clean up that ward some alone.
    Use money for new Ward??

Ship honey to the US for customers in the US.
