Our nation’s officers are some of the most respected citizens in our nation, at least they used to be.
The war on cops has been spiraling out of control and now officers are blatantly disrespected for putting their lives on the line to keep America safe.
Washington State Corrections Officer Miriam Nichols posted to Facebook about an interaction she had at a local Cheesecake factory Tuesday where she and five other officers were refused service because of the weapons they carry to defend themselves and citizens in danger.
Utter ignorance and self-importance by this restaurant worker is just another example of Americans slowly devaluing the rule of law.
After going public with the story, other people of Facebook came to the officers’ defense.
Shortly after an increasing uproar, the Cheesecake Factory released a statement to KOMO news, “Our policy is to allow uniformed and identified law enforcement officials to possess their service weapons on our premises. To the extent that there was a miscommunication of our policy, we sincerely apologize.”
They also reached out to Nichols directly on Facebook:
While the restaurant cleared the air and attempted to resolve the situation, the entire scenario is an example of a larger problem America is facing.
Our officers are no longer treated with the respect they deserve.

You know if a Minority was refused service no apology would ever be enough. Everyone needs to be treated with respect . These poor Correction Officers have to take a lot from these prisoners and really want to have a chance, to just get away from the abuse they are subjected to on a day to day basis . Make the Manager of that factory work at the Correction facility and see what these Police have to deal with .

It would be a different story if this restaurant was undergoing some kind of crime and needed help from police officers. I would never eat there again, or any other Cheesecake Factory establishment. I never patronize any establishment that does not respect our law enforcement officers, nor do I knowingly patronize any establishment that has a no weapons policy (a so-called “gun-free” zone) as that directly contravenes our 2nd Amendment rights and those that have lawful concealed carry permits. Such policies are the stupidest unAmerican actions any establishment can take. It simply puts a target on their back for the criminal element to know where they can safely commit a crime with a weapon with the least amount of possible retribution by LEOs or lawful armed citizens. I hope people on this site remember the Taco Bell incident a couple of months ago? I haven’t entered Taco Bell since then, and I’ll add Cheesecake Factory to the list. The only thing to change my mind would be a firing of everyone involved in this situation. The typical corporate apology isn’t good enough.

The Police do have the right to call in the Health Department and I am sure with this type of logic, common Sense is not one of the best qualifications and so I would love to see what would happen . We all remember what happen to our Vice-President elect when he was booed at the Hamilton Theater and did nothing. After that we have the ” Hamilton movement”. We had one person who snapped several pictures of the Men’s Rest room that had Mold coming down the Ceiling , floor and Walls. It is still open . Cheese attracts rats and there seems to be plenty of that kind in that establishment .

Ask their friends at the Fire department to pull in and have a break down. These protestors will block our Roads when they are unhappy. Every person who use to go to this business should stop going there and do it to the point where they go bankrupt. I am a disabled vet so I would like for you to explain to me how they differ from the American Soldier. I seem to recall many who wanted to spit on us when we returned from Vietnam (at least those who were lucky enough to get to return home). When I came back from Vietnam in 1967 and went thru post reassignment I was shocked when they suggested I wear civilian clothes while traveling. They said it would avoid confrontations. I said I will not cowtow or hide from my service. I wore the uniform and encountered no problems however, it stayed with me and I realized we had started down a slippery slope of allowing the patients to control the hospital, so to speak. We can now see how far this has gone and we’ve even given it a name. Political Correctness. It’s long past time we took our country back. I just read another article where Ivanka Trump and her family had to abort a trip on a commercial airliner and switch to a private plane as they were harassed by LGBT people on board the Delta flight. How far we’ve fallen from the days when Harry Trumen left office and he and his wife Bess got in their Ford sedan and drove back to Missouri. Now that is what you can do in a truly free country where people respect the rights of all others.

I do not go to the Cheesecake factory to eat any time I did once and was shocked what the cost of their so-called high-end food was so I paid and have not been back in about 12 years I can get much better food at lower prices and probably with better service elsware. If the other patrons got up and left without paying I bet the first people these ignorant employees call would be a cop. The so called “law enforcement community” is beginning to reap what they have sown for so many years. They shoot us in the back, beat us with clubs, steal our money with bogus traffic tickets, and treat us as if we were their ignorant slaves. Unfortunately, the police have been granted almost unlimited power and are almost never called to account(prosecuted) when they abuse it, which occurs all too often. If a cop shoots someone that does not have a gun, or in the back, or when the person is running away, they should be charged with Murder, convicted, and sentenced to a long term with no parole. No longer should a cop get away with “I was scared, so I shot him”.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the cops have NO obligation to protect you or your family. The only thing that the cops protect is what they sit on.

Cops may be people too, but how many of US associate with them. They have their own tribe and they stick with it, excluding US.
A citizen’s duty is to defend his society. I would not hesitate to come to the aide of a cop in an altercation or in a situation like that at Cheesecake Factory.
HOWEVER, I cannot see myself having a lasting friendship with a cop, so long as police enforce unconstitutional traffic laws and other law, whose main aim is to control people and increase fees to the government, just because their boss says they should and they want a job and be promoted.
I have had this discussion with several police and they had no understanding of constitutional precept – nor did they show any interest in acquiring an understanding – because they saw how their career will be jeopardized. With the mindset of following the orders of BIG BROTHER, why should cops not be thought of in the same way as any lefty or other wayward citizen?
The Cheesecake Factory will lose hundreds of thousands of customers, starting with all the people I know and myself. Who wants to get fat anyway? I am one of those who pays attention to the attitudes and beliefs of those I do business with. I don’t patronize those who I don’t believe in. I have not been inside of a WalMart for any reason for many years now. I simply don’t believe in what they spend their profits on, donate to or support. I will not allow my money to be used in these ways. My stance is that if God would not want me to support these businesses, I don’t go there. If I must pay a little more for the same product, so be it. We have to have standards and take a stand as to our beliefs.

“We the People” have good laws in place. They are there to keep order so “We the People” can live as comfortably as WE make ourselves. Our Law Enforcement is in place to see that these laws are being respected…as our Law Enforcement Officers and Officials should be. Are you aware that the cops who killed that UNARMED rancher out west were TRAINED in Israel. I know a local cop and his whole family, I’ve heard him say “shoot first, ask questions after” !! Just about every major city PD has been taken over by the FEDS, trained in military style tactics and armed with military weapons, in some cases even TANKS !!
How about the two cops who shot an 11 year old kid in a park who had a TOY gun ?? Or the cops who shot a deaf man who had his back to them because he didn’t stop when they yelled at him ?? I could go on for hours with similar cases.

So, how do they treat those US citizens that have followed the laws of their respective state’s and under gone background checks, taken the required by law courses to carry concealed? Are these citizens any less respectful of our laws and the protection of one’s self and others? Do they not also deserve the respect to carry their registered/licensed weapons? WOW. Since Cheesecake factory has failed to train their employees appropriately than LEOs should avoid this establishment until they can show they’re worthy enough to have LEOs in their establishment.

I say, don’t call a cop when you should ever need one if you don’t like them. They are there to protect us. Of course there are some cops that abruse the system. But most of them are good cops. We need them.
Just to clarify, police are not there to protect us. The slogan on some cars, “To Protect and To Serve” is cute but wrong. Police are there to enforce laws, period. Your personal protection is your personal responsibility, not that of the police. Yes, we need to have laws enforced, and that’s why police are charged with law enforcement. If you want to be protected, that’s up to you to either be prepared to do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Neither option is inexpensive, but getting the equipment and training to use it is a much simpler and effective method, not to mention a fraction of the cost of “outsourcing” your protection to paid personal security.
It was only a miss communication when it hit the news media & went viral. We need to support our law enforcement people with more respect on & off the job!!
I am sure if they had some one cause problems in there store they would call the Police with Gun ect. It is so sad that our Officers are treated in this manner. They leave their homes to go to work not knowing if they will be returning home after their shift. Because there are so many Police haters out there, The family of all the Officers worry every day if some thing will go wrong and they no longer will see their loved ones. Our officers are no longer treated with the respect they deserve. And some thing needs to change. The men and women that work as Officers always help even if they are off duty. So why not respect them and be honored that they do the job they do. May God bless the our outstanding Police Officers and their families.

Missed the main reason, for failure to support our law enforcement officers. This has occurred due to lack of support by the Attorney General. Everytime, something happens, it’s the police. They must be retrained. Bullshit, start supporting them, they are not at fault for all the bad things happening in the U.S. Can you imagine a country, without law enforcement. If a police officer, instructs you to stop, or drop a weapon — damn it — do it. If you don’t follow their instructions, don’t complain, when they upgrade the level of force used. Did you bother to read the article at all? They came into the restaurant to eat, plain and simple and were refused service. When they asked why and to see a manager they were given this lame excuse about company policy. Policy which in fact was misrepresented and falsely interpreted by the lame manager. So what is confusing you? Do you think a law enforcement officer in uniform carrying his issued side arm is in some demented way inciting a disturbance or an unpeaceful situation? If so you’ve got more problems than you are even aware of.
So lets support our law enforcement officers and protest these businesses. Even have a few protesters outside their establishments holding signs informing the general public of the company’s treatment of police. I would boycott cheesecake factory but it would have no effect because I have never set foot into one of these holes and never had any intention to do so. This just reinforces my choice. If every one of these places closed their doors tomorrow I would never notice but now I think it would be a good thing.

What an insult to our police force ! Our Police puts their lives in jeopardy every time they walk out the front door. The restaurant may apologize but the damage is done. I always thought that restaurants were happy to have uniformed (and armed) police present, because of the extra safety they bring to the premises. For that reason, many restaurants are pleased to serve police for free.
It amazes me that they can have a no-gun policy even including the police and yet some businesses are ostracized for refusing to make cakes etc. for gay couples because of their religious beliefs. I sincerely hope that Trump passes a carry policy for all law abiding citizens. With all the terrorists coming into this country and others the citizens need to be able to defend themselves-even from a hostile government which is why our fore-fathers produced the Second Amendment. I travel to other states frequently and would like to be able to protect myself in those states too. The Bible and the Constitution are the laws everyone should go by for it would sure solve a lot of problems. After 32 years in law enforcement I realize some stores do not want customers with guns, so I respect their wishes and go elsewhere. In todays world establishments that reject weapons are in reality rejecting customer safety. It is noticeable to most police officers that gun free stores are robbed more frequently than those stores that are frequented by police and legally armed citizens. Frequently people have offered to buy my coffee or lunch, nice gesture and thanks for the offer, but I pay my own way, but it is nice to eat with people who smile at you rather than those who grimace at your presence. Since my security depends on being physically fit, I can skip the cheesecake!!!!
The only way that these establishments respond is by hurting them in their pockets. So, let’s boycott them! Don’t spend any money on anything associated with them, neither their restaurants or their products. Their apology was insincere at best and denotes their true feelings not only towards law enforcement officers, but also toward the constitutional right to carry of the citizenry. If they don’t respect any of us, we don’t support them!

I wonder how many businesses have avoided getting robbed simply by having one or more law enforcement personnel in uniform eating a meal or ordering a drink? Having a law enforcement officer in uniform in any establishment reduces the possibility of getting robbed. Just how stupid is the upper level management of this corporation?
Any place that advertises itself as a “gun free zone” is just posting a message to criminals that this place is open to any type of criminal activity because the likely hood of their being an armed individual in the place is extremely small.
The other problem is that of there is an armed robbery happening in a gun free zone business and someone with a concealed carry is present and the concealed carry person uses their weapon to stop the criminal, the establishment would demand that the law abiding citizen be arrested and charged because they had a weapon in the gun free zone.

Know the feeling. Was refused Emergency Care twice this year because I am a permanently 100% disabled combat veteran and many Urgent Care, Doctor’s, health care facilities don’t want the problem(s) of dealing with the corrupt VA.

The Cheesecake Factory needs to be forced to close down!!!!!! I would make sure that all Law Enforcement, the Fire Dept. & ALL 1st responders will NO longer respond to any 911 calls for the Cheesecake Factory for any reason what so ever. To all the military people out there…Thanks for Your service from a fellow Vet. I know it may be hard for some of the readers out there to understand but, we as Americans must recognize the rights of that business to have their own rules. It does not mean we need to use their service or products but they also have rights that are protected. I spent over 18 years in the military until Vietnam then I became disabled trying to maintain that right for these United States. The main thing is we serve the Constitution…to keep every citizen free under that law. Remember, every American has rights that need to be respected and if we exclude anyone from that arena then we are all going to be included in a dictatorship in the future. Everyone have a Happy Holiday Season.
I think most of the commenters here do realize that businesses can set their own rules, even stupid ones like this. Everyone does have rights that need to be respected, but those rights are protected from abuse by the Constitution (which we both swore an oath to protect and defend), but only abuse by the government. Private citizens (including corporations owned by them) can and do abuse those enumerated rights routinely. I choose to avoid places who have decided that the right protected from abuse by the government will be abused by the management. Just as it’s their privilege to deny my right to carry, it’s my privilege to deny them any portion of the fruits of my labor. I wouldn’t even enter for a free lunch if it was offered if doing so meant being either disarmed or subject to criminal charges.
Wow, an I’ll just bet if they were robbed they would be calling the police real fast! I would feel much safer knowing there were police in the restaurent, packing guns!!!

I’ve been to Tacoma Mall many times. In Tacoma, for those here who so glibly scram and rant without brains to understand, there is good reason to distrust cops. If you care to know why, then look up the murder-homicide of the top Tacoma Police Department some time ago, and on-going issues with local armed mercenaries of the private, for-profit city of Tacoma, as YOUR own private, for-profit city mercenary systen to protect the city, NOT YOU.
You cheesecakes don’t know how to read the rules ? Well then how would you know how to cook and serve customers? Do you spit in the customers food if they give you a little backtalk? One last thing do you wash your hands when exiting the dumper..??
The way to take care of Chesecake is to never eat there again which is what I will do…. Some people need to wake up in this country and realize the cops are the good guys..
That isn’t enough. You not eating there won’t make any difference at all except that you’ll be safer for avoiding the criminal protection zone. If you want the point to be made, you and millions of others would need to write the corporate office to let the know you will never eat there again and why that is the case. I suppose you could also organize a protest and get some media attention, but the risks to you and your fellow protesters are much greater than they are for each of them sending a well-worded, polite, concise, and cogent letter explaining just how much business this policy is costing them. Yes, you have to hurt them in the wallet to get their attention, but they have to know why it hurts or your actions are irrelevant.

Seems like a pretty sad apology to me, if I had been the owner of this company the person who refused service to these officers would have been fired, and a sincere “I’m so sorry this happened, and to make up for my stupid employee, how about a free dinner for you and your families, and I promise this will never happen again in one of my restaurants”.
I would except the apology and patronize a different establishment. there is enough hate in this world. if the manager is a liberal he will soon learn when other patrons quit coming in. the Police should show they are bigger than the hate they experienced

Boycott the Cheesecake Factory, boycott all liberal outlets, refuse to shop there. Liberalism is out of hand and it will only get worse, just like with any child where the parent refuses to set guidelines and boundaries. If you don’t discipline your kids eventually someone will do it for you and you will only have yourself to blame. I fully support our law enforcement officers and will not go to Cheesecake factory ever again. This so-called manager should be fired for his desire to “twist” the actual “probable” policy……..hope he never need police assistance because they’re “not allowed” where he works???? what a jerk!!!
