House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is no stranger to criticism. According to polls, the Democratic leader is consistently rated as one of the most unliked politicians in America.
But on Tuesday, the criticism Pelosi was facing wasn’t from her conservative political opponents.

This time, the pushback came from the mainstream media and her fellow Democrats.
And Pelosi didn’t handle it well during an interview on Tuesday with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
In fact, critics said she “spectacularly unravels” and called Pelosi’s appearance “one of the most insane interviews you’ll ever witness” – in part because she called CNN a network filled with “Republican apologists.”
The exchange happened when Pelosi was pressed on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” over her refusal to accept President Donald Trump’s administration’s offer of nearly $2 trillion for a COVID-19 relief bill – and she didn’t handle it well.
Pelosi said her critics within the Democratic Party “have no idea about the particulars” of her negotiations with the administration.
Trump continues to agitate for “stimulus,” saying that Capitol Hill Republicans should “go big” rather than the limited approach they’ve been advocating.

Opinion polls show that additional coronavirus relief is a higher priority for most voters than quickly approving Trump’s nomination of Appeals Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
Pelosi defended her refusal to accept the generous deal on a Tuesday conference call with fellow Democrats, claiming Democrats have more leverage than ever to get everything they want. That didn’t satisfy Blitzer and others, who questioned if she wanted too much.
“When you say to me, ‘Why don’t you accept their [proposal]?’ – well, why don’t they accept ours?” Pelosi asked. She claimed that without the Democrats bill, healthcare and first responders would lose their jobs and states would go bankrupt.
“Madam Speaker, they really need the money right now,” Blitzer countered over Pelosi’s objections. “Even member of your own caucus … want to accept this deal. $1.8 trillion dollars. Congressman Ro Khanna [D-Calif.] … said this: ‘People in need can’t wait until February. 1.8 trillion is significant and more than twice Obama stimulus … Make a deal and put the ball in McConnell’s court.’”
“What do you say to Ro Khanna?” Blitzer asked.
In a bizarre twist, Pelosi claimed CNN was acting as a mouthpiece for Republican propaganda.
“What I say to you, I don’t know you’re always an apologist — and many of your colleagues are apologists — for the Republican position,” the House Speaker replied. “Ro Khanna? That’s nice. But that isn’t what we’re going to do.”

“No one is waiting for February. I want this very much now, because people need help now,” Pelosi continued. “But it’s no use giving them a false thing, just because the president wants to put a check with his name on it in the mail.”
Visibly angry, Pelosi said Democrats should follow her lead and stop giving in.
“But there are millions of Americans who have lost their jobs, they can’t pay the rent, their kids need food,” Blitzer responded. “$1.8 trillion – the president just tweeted, ‘Go big or go home.”
“That’s right!” Pelosi responded, indicating that she could get more.
“Why not work with him, and not let the perfect … be the enemy of the good?” Blitzer asked.
“Well, I won’t let the wrong be the enemy of the right,” Pelosi responded.
And that was just the beginning.

For another minute and a half, the two clashed over whether Pelosi was being unreasonable — and Pelosi didn’t handle it well.
Pelosi accused Blitzer of “defending the administration” and said he was uninformed and ignorant about her proposals. The interview ended with Pelosi and Blitzer talking over each other, and Blitzer accused the Democratic leader of letting people starve.
