Hampshire College in Amherst spit on the legacy of every brave soul that has ever shed blood for our country when they banned our nation’s colors from being flown at their college.
Because the American flag is so much more than a piece of cloth. It represents the first and most enduring example of God’s divine gift of self-governance. It is a symbol that our country’s government is for the people, and by the people.
When Old Glory is carried forward by our brave soldiers into battle, it’s very presence signals the beginning of the end of tyranny.
The cost of this freedom is steep, but our veterans proudly bear the burden of sacrifice required to keep our country free.
And nearly a thousand veterans have responded with a message: Hampshire College, your cowardly act is shameful.
Sunday, veterans from across the country descended on the western Massachusetts college chanting “Raise the flag, raise the flag!” and speak out against the school’s decision to stop flying U.S. flags after students allegedly burned one in protest of Donald Trump’s presidential election.
Veterans and other demonstrators held American flags and chanted “U.S.A.” at the school in what organizers called a “peaceful demonstration of freedom.”
College officials decided to indefinitely stop flying flags earlier this month after the main flag in the center of campus was burned after students lowered the banner to half-staff.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and others at the rally said the school’s decision disrespects veterans and current military members.

Put them in the draft within 3 months after getting out of high school or attaining the age of 18, which ever comes later, for a 2 year term. Then they can go to college, if they want, for they will be more mature and know what the USA stands for. If they don;t go to college or get a job they just don’t EVER receive any benefits from the government unless they are legally disabled and not able to do any kind of work. I see more people with handicap license plates get out of their vehicles and RUN into the store when it is raining. What is their disability???????

We are losing veterans for their is no draft for less peole are spending time in the service and are out there collecting money from our government when they can be serving our country for that money. Maybe after being unemployed for 4 months they should be redrafted and taught a new trade for 6 months so that way we are getting something out of them for the money that they are receiving.

I have to fully agree with T4WH and JCS. There should be absolutely NO Federal monies spent on colleges anyway. If you choose to go to college, pay your own way. A lot of poorer kids do work their way through college. Colleges, in my estimation are simple institutes of brainwashing and do very little to make any student capable of earning a living or living in our society. They have turned these students into people who think they are entitled to everything without having to pay for it. Those of us who work for a living know better. Without work, you get nothing.

I agree with re starting the draft. All students should spend time in military service from 2-6 years to learn lessons they were not taught in public schools, which are run by useless self-serving nimrods who get elected to a job like all politicians. In the military they will learn valuable skills that will help them find good jobs with a good paycheck.
I realize the idea behind the sentiment. I learned a lot in Jr college. I had adults who lived life as my co-eds. They taught me a lot about being an adult. I was at a social advantage, I did not have to worry about teen issues, I could be accepted as an adult. The real problem is protecting children so much that they do not have to see beyond themselves. It is one thing to protect against real prejudice. But feelings is out of control. One either has a penis or not. If the penis is not there, Socially we have a woman. No need for military service. Need for peer group as an adult out of college to include older adults not just traditional age for college. This might help with teens also. They can learn to be adults better.

Corporal punishment was the norm when I was in school. I found it funny because I respected authority. When they did overstep their authority however, the next day my 200 lb. dad (ex club fighter and former WWII infantryman-Sgt.) would accompany me and have a chat with whoever. Odd, I think it happened twice then people began to be careful of whom they were bullying. Actually I could handle it myself and told him that he said okay. The only other problem was when the black panthers decided they didn’t like me being their roommate. lol tough and I told them that in not so nice terms. I just reread a facebook post someone sent me “You’re with Trump, you’ll destroy the country.” I think he’s done a pretty good job of destroying (sarcasm). Immediately stop funding this school by withholding any state or federal monies. Withhold any monies that are used as study grants. Immediately dismiss any student that is not curent on their school due bills. Any student knowingly participating in flag denigration be dismissed from any 4 year school that uses federal monies and have any suspected students forfeit any funding provided by the fed. Govt to supplement their reqired tuitions, etc. . The parents of these members of the great unwashed need also to be reviewed. It is time the college and students realize they have to adapt to a new age where sedition is not acceptable. Flying the flag or not flying the flag is not as important as the lack of mental clarity behind the action. If you lived in a country where the leader is a king with all power of life and death (which is what queen Hillary wants), you would soon discover that when you objected to a queenly rule, you would be eliminated.
Frankly, it is well past time the fraud, theft, murder and misinformation coming out of the District of Columbus be exposed and terminated. The “schools of higher education” should be tolerant of disagreements, but must maintain their integrity and remember they are open because of the freedoms that flag represents. Until they start acting responsibly, all funding to the college coming from state or federal tax dollars should be immediately terminated. Likewise, if the students involved in this act of treason can be identified, any state or federal funding they receive should be immediately terminated as well.
Students should be allowed to peacefully protest or demonstrate, but destruction of property that does not belong to them should not be tolerated. If they want to destroy property, put a uniform on them and send them to the front lines of any war zone.
If this school receives public money, then Trump should put an end to that as soon as he’s in office. Where do they get these anti-American morons to run these schools?? This is a disgrace to our country. Instead of disparaging our flag, they should be teaching what the meaning of it is….but you’ll never get that from a bunch of fascist liberals who want to destroy the fabric of America.

I do not remember WW II – in fact, I was not born when Pearl Harbor happened that put us into WW II. In the eighties, I took a deep interest in this time period of WW II and read books, bought & watched declassified movies taken during WW II and have taken several WW II tours to Europe. Apparently, most of the younger ones are not aware of what all happened during Hitler’s regime and the happenings of kristallnicht. Wake up, before it is too late and we are a socialist country. Socialism does not work! All your rights are taken away – you are under a dictator who makes all the decisions. The people of Germany were starving and things were not good at all – it was the high powers who were living the good life at the expense of the “people.” Educate yourself and open your eyes ! I was I kindergarten when President Roosevelt declared we were entering the war because of the Japanese attacking Pear Harbor. I remember the air raids, rationing, and sacrifices we made at home to be sure our men in service had what they needed to survive. I don’t believe the idiots who burn my country’s flag would survive one day let alone the five years we were at war. We at that time were a proud, patriotic country fighting for the freedoms taken for granted and shunned today by those who expect to have everything they want. We were also a nation that prayed every day for the end of the war and return of out loved ones..

It’s not a shock really, at least for me, when a grade school teacher said if your father’s or mothers were in a war it made the murderers and war mongers. Honest truth from my third grade teacher. Which made some children cry including me and a nice note from my parents and other parents to the school principal and Superintendent of the School District. To have her fired. There was a huge meeting in the PTA, along with the Principal, Superintendent and the teacher. It got very heated and she never returned to the school the next year.
All Americans who can see what is happening at liberal colleges need to stop provide donation to these liberal dens. They are anti-american and brain washing your children. These college leaders could careless on how this country was formed and why we have the freedom so many soldiers died for.

Students force their colleges to do what they and their liberal professors want. I think all students should have to serve in the military. I was a proponent of the two year term and one serviceman said at least 4 years was better so that they see how important this country is to them and their future.
I remember the 60’s. My husband and I were in Panama Canal and we saw the Peace Corp who worked on the Islands with the San Blas Indians. They were complete losers. The Indians were cleaner and smelled better than them. One guy was sent to dig wells and all he did was sit around and carve. He hair was long and greasy and he admitted that he hadn’t dug a well in the 3 years he’d been there. He had one year to go and he could go home without serving in the Army.

I was drafted right out of high school and was fortunate enough to attend an electronice school in Huntsville Alabams (Red Stone Arsenel ) while in this school there were two Norwegin Sargents in my class . As usual we discussed family , military , schools and life in general . They told me that in there country all indivuals , upon graduation from school were drafted into eather the military or they would serve two years in the service of the state, (country ) , some would work in hospitals, some would work in schools ,and some would work in other branches of goverment . The point is ALL indivuals served . I have thought on this many times and have come to the concluson that the U.S. needs to do this , it would cause indivuals to grow up and get a set — male or female , which would benefit our country in many ways .

I was born 4 yrs before WW11 they started the draft before that ,my dad tried to enlist but they told him because he already had 3 kids that he could do more for his country by staying in the job he had,his older brother was the first to try and enlist from our city and was told he was over the draft age.Most of the women who had husbands in the military took factory jobs doing the job of a man ,building supplies for those who were fighting .Everyone did their part ,my dad along with other neighborhood men went out to patrol the area at night .Our mother covered the windows with blankets to keep it dark ,it was called a blackout.Back then they drafted all able bodied men even those who never graduated from school. So yes freedom comes with a price,it seems that all of these protesters are only being taught just that how to protest,they are graduated robots Yes they need to raise the flag and read in our history how they defended our flag and died to keep it flying over Fort Henry,when they were fighting the British who were trying to take away our freedoms.

The answer is, because THE SYMBOL OF FREEDOM IS TO FLY THE FLAG we need to pass a law that anyone not patronizing it will have the choice of joining the military or going to jail………why should it be all right to not display at Universities, public buildings or burn or walk on the flag (DON’T TREAD ON ME).

The American Flag is a symbol of: 1) What The United States of America stands for and represents, including her Constitution and laws; 2) A salute to those who selflessly and valiantly fought and died to protect her Constitutional Principles; her inhabitants; Founding Fathers; and what ‘We the People’ vote and pay taxes for.
Based on the foregoing, we need to examine any subject, based on, and in accordance with, the Constitution and Principles of the United States of America, correcting as necessary.
Public Education should be thoroughly examined. What is being taught in our public schools including colleges and universities should be thoroughly examined, not manipulated and redacted.
Our freedoms do not include destruction/dismantling of our country and/or principled values.
If anyone, group or institution is not in compliance with America, her Constitution and/or Values, they have many choices outside America in which to choose to live, and by NO MEANS should anyone, group and/or institution receive any Tax Payer dollars for their support.

To be fair I know several college graduates, my son included, who have joined the military and love our Country and respect our Flag. . Let’s not lump all college students and graduates into the same description. I appreciate all of our veterans and our current troops and thank them with all of my heart for their service. ALL college students should serve in the military. Not just the men-the women want “equal rights” and spit on our flag and scoff at our liberty as their “right” so all should have to serve BEFORE they get to go to college. I am a veteran and will be 70 on my next birthday. Somehow I graduated from college with liberal and idiot professors “teaching”. I went in the UNITED STATES ARMY when I was 19 and served proudly for 3 years. I never have been nor will I support the liberals in government and the pieces of shit communist who are known in Hollywood. If these little college liberals would go out in the working world, their views will change when they have to live in the real world. I saw where one of those gay punks burned the flag of our country. It is his freedom of speech. If I see one of those bastards burning my country’s flag, I will exercise my freedom of speech by knocking out their teeth. That is my freedom of choice. Please note: I am almost 70 years old but I am 6″4″ and weigh 245 lbs. I still can rock! So if ever someone wants to burn my flag, please notify me in advance PLEASE!
These kids supported Bernie and demand that we pay for their college and then treat our country with such disrespect… I think they should earn the right to a college education by serving in the military. I served in the Navy and can truthfully say that it made a man out of me. If it hadn’t been for those four years of service, I don’t know where I would have ended up. It is because of that military time that I was able to continue my education, raise a family and be a good husband.
I proudly fly the flag every holiday. I respect other people’s beliefs. I approve of the right to protest but am an ardent opponent of violent protests.

This school has an annual tuition rate of over $62,000. Basically, we’re talking about leftist egghead professors who get paid to indoctrinate a bunch of spoiled rich kids. There is no opportunity for either party to have a workable understanding of the real world. They wouldn’t know the truth if it bit them in the butt. I’d just prefer we let them be and learn the hard way. And when their little leftist world evaporates after exposure to real life, the “school” can provide them with aroma therapy, coloring books, blankies and a free oil change for their daddy’s Mercedes.
Students who disagree with the school should transfer to another school. Student’s parents who disagree with the school should insist that their son or daughter transfer or stop paying their tuition or other costs. Anyone that donates to the school should let the school know that they will no longer do so. Any public funds received by the school should be stopped. The VFW and other veterans associations should file a civil suite against the school.
For Veterans and MOST Americans, our flag is a symbol of our nation; a nation that WE THE PEOPLE worship. It is a crime for these “brats” to desecrate the American flag, just as much as it is a crime to desecrate sacred items of many religions. It is not freedom of speech, it is destruction of a symbol of the dedicated beliefs of “WE THE PEOPLE” and I am deeply, personally offended by the behavior of brats that have done nothing to contribute to the freedoms in this country.
