USA Today sports columnist Nancy Armour wants Caitlin Clark to stop, because she says Clark’s reactions to fouls not called on her puts “Black” and “queer” WNBA players “in danger.”
Clark complaining about being fouled is comparable to the infamous lynching of Emmett Till, Armour claimed, and said it was enabling “white nationalists.”
“It seems there is a white nationalist element to Clark’s fandom that is deeply, deeply problematic, made even more so because the WNBA is made up predominantly of Black women, many of them queer,” she wrote.
“When Clark claims fouls that don’t exist, when she goes on profanity-laced tirades at referees, those racists see her as a white woman in need of saving and take matters into their own hands.”
“The WNBA’s All-Star Game this weekend is in Chicago, Emmett Till’s hometown, and a local art gallery is currently hosting an exhibit imagining his life if he hadn’t been lynched,” Armour wrote. “While it’s incumbent on the WNBA to do more to protect its players, there also should be an expectation on Clark to recognize the wider consequences of her actions.”
She wrote that Clark’s “enablers must take the rest of us for idiots.”
Critics have claimed there is extensive, documented records of Caitlin Clark, the WNBA’s top star, of being targeted.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White has formally submitted complaints to the WNBA league office demanding action.
“I think it’s pretty egregious what’s been happening to us the last few games,” White said in May. “The disrespect right now for our team has been pretty unbelievable.” After the Stokes play last week, White added: “She seems to always be initiating the contact. I’m trying to not get fined. Again, all I’ll say is that we just keep asking for consistency.”
Armour says Clark complaining about being assaulted is dangerous… to other players.
