The Uniparty and its Deep State allies scored another quiet victory on Wednesday when the House of Representatives rejected an attempt to strip $315 million in funding from the National Endowment for Democracy, Republican Arizona Rep. Eli Crane warned.
81 establishment Republicans joined Democrats to defeat the measure in a 127-291 vote that highlighted deep divisions within the Republican Party.
Crane, who added the amendment to the fiscal 2026 spending package, called the National Endowment for Democracy a “Deep State slush fund” and accused the organization of promoting “anti-American objectives” and undermining freedom of speech.
“Tonight, the Uniparty rejected my amendment to defund NED,” Crane wrote on X after the vote concluded. 81 “’republicans’ voted with democrats to fund this rogue organization that fuels global censorship and domestic propaganda.”
“Although its name suggests a force for good, its mission has drifted far from its Cold War origins. This is a classic tactic of the swamp, where bad policy and corruption hide behind a noble title,” Crane said. “We’ve learned that this organization has engaged in global censorship, domestic propaganda, and regime change politics.”
The vote split House Republicans, with 127 GOP lawmakers – almost all the more conservative Representatives – attempting to defund the organization, while 81 joined Democrats in voting “no.”
The National Endowment for Democracy was established during the Reagan era in 1983 and gives federal funds to organizations that are supposed to promote democracy across more than 90 nations. Most of its annual budget comes from Congress via the State Department.
The Trump administration’s Office of Management and Budget recommended eliminating NED funding entirely in its fiscal year 2026 budget proposal in May, citing reports that the organization doled out money to entities that attacked “America First” politicians and sought to blacklist conservative media outlets.
Sen. Mike Lee, R-U.T., called on the House to support Crane’s amendment before the vote.
“Congress shouldn’t be giving $315 million to the National Endowment for Democracy. We are not the world’s ATM,” Lee wrote on X Monday. “And yet far too many in Congress seem to think otherwise—especially when we’re asked to fund leftist vanity projects.”
Former Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk has also pushed for defunding the far-Left nonprofit.
After the vote, Crane said the Deep State was still clinging to power with the help of Congress.
“The swamp is real. But we did pass the Shower Act this week. I could use one after spending so much time in this awful place,” Crane wrote on X.
