TV star Pauley Perrette, who plays forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on the popular television drama NCIS, says she was “alone, terrified and trapped” when an allegedly homeless man attacked her and threatened to kill her as she walked in front of her Hollywood home.
The actress tweeted that she thought she was going to die Thursday night. Perrette says the man grabbed her, punched her repeatedly and graphically told her how he was going to kill her.
He kept telling her his name was William, she tweeted.
“There was an empty garage behind me and I knew if he got me in there I knew I was dead. I knew I couldn’t overcome him, I prayed my heart out (and) then finally said, ‘William is a beautiful name, I have a little nephew named William.'”
The man started to punch her again and then told her to leave.
“And I did. I went into shock. Collapsed on the sidewalk. Some guy walked right past me with a dog that licked my face. He was on his phone, annoyed. Did nothing.”
Los Angeles police Officer Jane Kim confirmed that the actress’ account of the attack was accurate.
Perrette called a friend and neighbor who came and tracked the alleged attacker, then led police to him.
David Merck, who turned 45 on Thursday, was arrested and booked for investigation of aggravated battery. Bail was set at $100,000. He was arrested a few blocks away.
Police say records don’t list an attorney for Merck.
“I am shaken and traumatized,” Perrette wrote. “My house, my beloved Hollywood. My beloved homeless people that I spend my life protecting. My life changed tonight. My … I don’t know.”
She ended her tweet: “We need to not walk alone. I need to heal. I almost died tonight.”

It sickens me to hear of these attacks. What is the Point? Just a so called ‘man’ that wanted to beat on a small Woman? It didn’t sound like he was going to rob her, he was just beating on her. I know she does a Lot of work for the Homeless and has a Huge heart. I am going to have to Agree With Donald Trump on this though, Mental Illness I think has a lot to do with Crime. It could also be Drugs or the Lack of.
Just my thoughts,, but I my heart hurts when Good Innocent people that Help the homeless,,Get Attacked By one of the Very People That They Help. It makes you question humanity these days.
Prayers for Speedy Mental and Physical Recovery “Abby”
Ephesians 6:12King James Version (KJV)
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Know what you mean a friend of mine works with the Salvation Army and she’s been attacked herself. She says that they’ve offered housing and jobs to many of the homeless here in Eugene Oregon and they didn’t accept because they would have to go to rehab and they all refused. They aren’t all mentally ill most of them are JUST PLAIN LAZY !
Acts of aggression will increase as people feel increasingly powerless to help their situation. Under those conditions, women will often retreat into depression and self-pity. Men, however, are made angry and hateful by it and that poisonous anger and hatred seeks an outlet. Often it is visited on those weaker than themselves. I hate to break it to “the Donald” but “mental illness” has its source in one of two things: organic dysfunction of the brain or just plain evil. Jesus only spoke of two kinds of illness–physical or spiritual. There is no such thing as the dumping ground of “mental illness”–it is a myth manufactured by those who profit from the drugging and incarceration of the growing problem.
That there is no fear of God in the land causes the growth of evil, on one hand. On the other, we have the systematic poisoning of the populace through substances that, in a roundabout way, damage the brain–primary among them is vaccines. But there are many chemicals in our environment that provoke the same immune system “overdrive” producing the inflammation that, in turn, damages the brain. Researchers have known, for some time, that ALL chronic disease is caused or, at the very least, triggered by inflammation. Inflammation. From gut diseases, to cardiovascular disease and the spread of cancer through the body–inflammation marches in front of these conditions. And yes, inflammation is the hallmark of the brain dysfunction of Alzheimer’s disease and autism, along with a large number of other “mental illnesses”. We need to get the chemicals out of our food, water and air. But that will not reduce the spiritual wickedness that stalks our land. Only the gospel of Christ and His righteousness comes against that wickedness when it is taught and believed. During “Great Awakening” of the light of Christ throughout New England, the hungry were fed, clothed and housed and the prisons were emptied out. And there was a great peace that spread over the land. Would that we would see that again.
I am a Believer.
I know who saved me.
I know and fully believe in his Father, God Almighty.
I intended to write a few words about some of your thoughts and beliefs around medicine and mental illness but it was like a gentle voice telling me that was not my job.
I will not relate my personal story with mental illness, absolutely proven beyond any doubt to not be caused by an organic functional problem with my brain as I take no medicines; I have had, however, intensive therapy sessions. I am not God Almighty or his Son, nor am I an ordained minister so I do not feel comfortable stating the definition of evil however, I do believe that I have encountered enough of it, in its many forms to at least have a chance at recognizing it or to get a sense of it in someone or some thing. My Psychologist is a very devout man and I asked him early on in our sessions if I was evil. He brought in a friend who is a Theologian since I am a bit hard headed in believing good things about myself to explain to me that no, I am not evil, that I have what is called a mental illness designated as PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Therefore, I will respectfully disagree with you about the reality of mental illness.
I read your entire post but I am not a Physician so I am not qualified to comment on some of it. I do agree that we are poisoning our own air, land and water but that it has improved, at least in this country, not everywhere but it is improving;
As to vaccines, again, since I am not a doctor all I can offer is anecdotal evidence but again it is very personal. I lived during the times when Polio still was a scourge upon the land and it was a vaccine that ended that scourge and if anything had the Blessing of God upon it, it was that vaccine because unless you have had friends or family confined to an iron lung for a very shortened life span, only able to see what is visible in the mirror placed in front of them then you likely do not truly understand how vaccines can cause only good. To forbid that vaccine to someone and have them contract polio because of it, well, again I am not a priest or a theologian but I am a father and a grandfather and I simply do not understand how allowing that scourge to come again and take so many lives could be remotely called Godly or inspired by God.
Note that I am not attacking you, I am simply relating true information that hopefully you will consider.
I am an amateur Historian and have done quite a bit of reading about the various Great Awakenings that have occurred. In a Utopian world, releasing ALL the prisoners would be the ideal but that thing you mentioned early called evil truly does exist. Again, I am not a priest but letting child molesters, murderers, drug lords etc. out into the world does not seem to be a path to peace to me but instead a path to anarchy. However, as noted on this page, freedom of speech is an American right so I have my thoughts and you have yours and we differ.
Healthy debate is a good thing and often requires two or more sides. I have simply presented the side that I see now, have experienced and have studied at length. If I present something as an opinion, I will denote it as such. If I am not an expert, I will make sure that it is noted so that no false assumptions are made. Since your words imply that you are a Believer, I will leave you with this. May God Almighty Bless you and keep you from now and into Eternity.
There was no edit button and I noted a verbal mistake as I had deleted some lines when that little voice hit me.
“I will not relate” should have read “I will however relate”. My apologies for that and possibly other grammatical errors; there is no excuse except that it is late for me and I was a little bit tired while writing those words.
Hopefully the attacker will get a nice long prison sentence.
While many homeless people are deserving of help, some are violent people who should be avoided at all costs.
I assure you he will not get a “nice long prison sentence”. This story will fade away into dust in a few more days and the system will move forward as always……. putting maniacs back into society to victimize others.
Watch and see.
My gut reaction……………..”An eye for an eye” for sweet Pauley!
We can all thank the ACLU for preventing quite a few years ago the due institutionalization & treatment of such obvious mental cases who roam America’s streets in the tens of thousands as anything from mere pests to dangerous threats to public safety. Typical case of Marxism masquerading as a champion of rights & freedom.
it is pretty sad when you cannot walk home and feel safe with all the violence maybe we should be under marshall law it is disgusting how little regard there is for other people in todays world it is a sad thing I remember walking home from school and walking to and from work I did this for years and in those days no one worried because you knew how to find help if you had a problem
That is one long sentence which, even at its end, did not end, Ms. “Marshall.”
Alone and unarmed in Kalifornia; what could possibly go wrong?
