Trump’s Secretary of State will be…

November 15, 2016 By: Stephen Dietrich

After his stunning election, President-elect Donald Trump has been working nonstop to fill key administration posts with top conservatives — and no foreign policy post is more senior than the secretary of state.

According to senior Trump officials, Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has emerged as the favorite to serve in the prestigious position.

Although Giuliani has little foreign policy experience, the official said there was no real competition for the job as the nation’s top diplomat. However, a second official cautioned that John Bolton, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, remained in contention for the key post. Both officials requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the process by name.

The New York billionaire also was considering tapping Richard Grenell as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a move that would bring some experience and diversity to his nascent administration. Grenell, who served as U.S. spokesman at the U.N. under President George W. Bush, would be the first openly gay person to fill a Cabinet-level foreign policy post.

The personnel moves under consideration were confirmed by people with direct knowledge of Trump’s thinking who were not authorized to publicly disclose private discussions.

Giuliani, 72, would be an out-of-box choice to lead the State Department. A former mayor, federal prosecutor and top Trump adviser, Giuliani is known for his hard-line law-and-order views. Bolton has years of federal government experience, but he has also raised eyebrows with some of his hawkish stances, including a 2015 New York Times op-ed in which he advocated bombing Iran to halt the country’s development of nuclear weapons.

A spokeswoman for Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment about his interest in the job. But during an appearance in Washington late Monday, Giuliani said that Bolton would be a “very good choice” to serve as Trump’s secretary of state. Asked if there was anyone better, Giuliani replied: “Maybe me, I don’t know.”

Vice President-elect Mike Pence was expected to join the incoming president at Trump Tower on Tuesday to review “a number of names” for the incoming administration, according to spokesman Jason Miller.

“If the vice president-elect is getting together with the president elect to discuss names, I would say it’s getting serious,” Miller said.

The transition planning comes amid an intense liberal outcry from Trump’s decision on Sunday to appoint Steve Bannon to serve as his chief strategist and senior adviser.

President Barack Obama avoided any direct criticism of Trump’s personnel moves during a Monday news conference, suggesting that the new president deserves “room to staff up.” The outgoing president encouraged Trump, however, to embrace a unifying tone.

Meanwhile, Trump spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Monday.

His transition office said in a readout that Trump “is very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russia and the people of Russia.” Trump has spoken in recent days with the leaders of China, Mexico, South Korea and Canada.

Trump is also weighing whether to select Michigan GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, a niece of chief Trump critic and 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney. She would be the second woman ever to lead the Republican National Committee — and the first in four decades.

“I’ll be interested in whatever Mr. Trump wants,” McDaniel told The Associated Press.

Mr. Rudy would be better suited to be Attorney General or Director of Homeland Security. Gen. Flynn would be a better Sec. of State.

I agree, I think Rudy would be better as Attorney General and Trey Gowdy should be named to the Supreme Court.

I disagree Main Street. Rudi doesn’t really want the job. It is in some respects a step back. I think that the AJ should be a bit younger and highly focused. Trey Gowdy would be a good choice in my mind. As long as Trey starts prosecuting people, and spends less time on speeches. I know this is going to make me a bit unpopular as Trey is for the most part excellent and well respected. He just never gets anything done. Mind you as AG he has much more power.

Rudi has enough experience and smarts to fill almost any role. He is a great decision maker and a great team player. After the initial shock of hearing about this potential appointment, I realize now he would be just great as Sec of State. Honestly he has way more experience than the last five or six secs of state if you think about it.

Trey Gowdy would be a great Court Justice. Over the next few years, the liberal Democrats will attempt to stifle freedom of religion and free speech. The liberals have the media on their side and are already trying for a coup. They will attempt to install a semi dictatorship in all ways. We need a Court Justice to block their ant-American legislation. Trey’s thinking is based in the US Constitution. He believes in law, not in this month’s flavor of the month opinion, or daytime TV mentality.

I agree with you. I really do hope President Elect Donald Trump appoints Trey Gowdy to one of these two positions. I have followed Mr Gowdy for the last several years and he has proven himself to be a very competent adversary and very honest, a trait I fears is lacking it too many legislators.

The only thing I look at Trey Gowdy in a negative fashion is he, like all others in Congress, has never mentioned Obama’s constitutional eligibility. And being a British subject at birth is certainly not a natural born citizen of the USA.

Read at his “promo” article in 1991 when promoting his book “Dream from My Father” when he made note he was born in Kenya.

Actually all the ones mentioned above are very capable of the positions in question.

No way! No RINOs on the high court. While I’m immune to the team sports issue, I don’t want to see Gowdy anywhere but Congress and there are times I don’t want to see him there. He’s like Comey. He’s a RINO and ignores a lot while he’s competent to go after everything. The fact that Gowdy is a party guy and not the Constitutionalist is a great party guy, if you’re in the RINO party. I’m not. He should be kept where he is. He’s more than competent and there’s not a lot of that in Congress.

The high court needs someone in the mold of the founders, like Mike Lee or Mike Luttig. I’d have once said Cruz but he’s showed me that he won’t stand on principle, as he once said. He lost me when he endorsed trump.

Bolton is the guy when it comes to Sec. State! There is no better, more knowledgeable person available than Bolton. Except for Lee, there is nobody in Congress more valuable in any other place than where they are, now.

As for “draining the swamp”, the appointment of Rinsed Pubis is the exact opposite of that when you release a monster alligator into the swamp. Yeah, no!

I concur, Main Street. And Rudy should clean up the AG and FBI offices. And when time comes, appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Clintons. Bannon should have been the Chief of Staff. I am afraid that Trump is appointing too many people who are old Bush people and Goldman Sachs people, and they will work against everything Trump promised. We desperately need a clean slate. It is very disappointing. But at least, Hillary is not the President Elect.

We want Trey Gowdy or Ted Cruse for Attorney General.

      • Southern By Choice says

        November 15, 2016 at 11:34 am

I agree 100% – Bolton has the experience of dealing with foreign leaders due to his time at the UN. He is one heck of a good guy, and a Trump supporter from the start. I like Rudy, however, feel we need someone with some foreign experience in this position. Flynn would be great for Sec of Defense, and Rudy for homeland security. I also like Sheriff David Clark, however, feel he should be an undersecretary maybe at DHS, until he gets his “political” legs under him. I like Newt, but feel Bolton would be better when you apply the old adage “more bees with honey than vinegar.” I think Mr. Trump has already gotten his list of SCOTUS potentials, and will probably stick with those, and we need Gowdy in the House right now. He could appoint Cruz, although I am afraid with a life-time appointment he may not stay as conservative as he wants to appear now when he has to run for re-election.

        • Patsy Martin says

          November 16, 2016 at 9:53 pm

Newt has said he only wants to be on the sidelines, maybe an advisor of some sort but does not want position on the team or cabinet. He just wants to continue what he is doing and that is about all. Retired is what he likes I guess. But I agree with you about Flynn and Rudy. I do not know a lot about Bolton until just recently, so I cannot say, but I understand he would be good at SOS., as for Gowdy, I would love to see him in as a Justice, but like you, I believe he is needed in the House right now. Ted Cruz would be better at AG than as Justice.I do not know who is really the best for Justice. Rudy would be good there too, but he is getting on up there, so, even though it is curently a life time position, with Rudy, well, 10 years may be the life time span for him.I agree that Clarke needs to be used in there at some point. He is a good strong defender and would be great in DHS like you said. I wish Newt would take the SOS, but he turned it down when it was offered to him.

I agree with “Main Street” that Mr. Giuliani would be a better choice as either Attorney General or Director of Homeland Security because the Secretary of State needs someone who is more versed in foreign affairs. A senator or representative, or anyone who is up-to-date in foreign affairs and familiar with the overseas “hot beds” would serve us better. It makes no difference where you put good people with integrity – they will do the right thing and Trump knows how to select people with skills. There is no need to second guess. When they talk about political experience they are talking about how corrupt a politician is. The longer someone is in politics the more corrupt activities they get involved in until we have another Hillaroid. It is better for new blood to not have past connections or debts to others. Rudy will do a better job when he can just say “f u” to a foreign government trying to manipulate him. I think Bolton has good judgement, but I want people that will stop the corruption. I agree. I like Rudy for Atty Gen. Seems to me he’d be perfect in that spot. The past two — Holder and Lynch — were nothing but “YES” people for Pres. Obama.
My choice for SOS (State) is John Bolton. Great experience in that area.

The speculation of Dr. Ben Carson for Secy of Education was interesting. Actually, I’d rather see they eliminate that cabinet seat entirely and hand the control back to the states and local communities. Do away with common core, and all the other garbage the kids are being feed by the NEA and Teachers Unions. Never did understand why that kind of power was given to unions to educate our students while unions stand more for indoctrination than education.
I like Dr. Ben as Secy of Human Resources, etc, or, if not that, then Surgeon General.

How about Sheriff Joe (AZ) for Secy of Homeland Security. Maybe we’d get something done there for a change.
Gov. Rick Perry (TX) for Interior Secy. Trey Gowdy for Inspection General. Scott Walker (WI) to head up the National Labor Relations Board.
Jesse Waters (Water’s World) to be WH Press Secy. That would be a hoot, if nothing else. Clint Eastwood to be Ambassador of the World.
I could go on for … well….maybe seconds!

And lets not forget Hillary. Recently, I read somewhere that the perfect job for Hillary would be as a White House maid. She’d have access to the WH, something she’s always wanted again, but with absolutely no authority.

I hope Trump appoints someone with a military background as Sec. of State and Sec. of Defense. I find it more reassuring to have leaders who send folks to war to have at least been in the military. Not folks who got special deferments to keep out of the draft in the 1960’s.

I agree and I would add that there should be a constitutional amendment that requires that the president have some kind of military experience whether it be active duty, reserves or even the National Guard because as you say it’s more reassuring to have leaders who send folks to war to have at least been in the military. Since it’s the president who ultimately sends troops into war zones and puts their lives on the line that president had better know what it’s like to be sent off to risk his or her life in some foreign land.

Mr Trump needs to select a person with in depth knowledge of foreign affairs and the inner workings of the State Department. The State department is indeed a huge can of worms and he should avoid having a person in charge who has to learn on the job. Mr Giuliani is a terrific attorney, Law Man, and administrator. He is needed most at the Department of Justice. John Bolten is a proven diplomat and we need one right out of the gate.

So that is bad. The UN, as far as I am concerned, has about out-lived its usefulness. They seem intend on,if they can’t raise up third world countries, bringing all other countries DOWN to their level. Hopefully he will surround himself with a team of people highly qualified in their area of appointment. Our government works best when the president has a team of the best people possible. In the past some presidents have selected teams where they were the most competent person on the team. That may work great for their ego but it doesn’t work well for getting things accomplished.

My choice for Attorney General would be Giuliani, Sec. of State Newt, and any of the other of his picks for jobs in his administration will be fine with me. Except don’t give Cruz a job, he is still out to discredit Trump. Mitch McConnell has already said he and other Republican’s will not pass the term limits Trump wants. Get rid of him, and also Paul Ryan. They are playing nice right now, but when Trump gets in they will stab him in the back pretty fast. Nothing will get passed. They finally got on board, but weren’t happy about it. Remember Ryan is married to a devout liberal Democrat, and before marrying her dated a black Democrat, so I believe he leans toward being one. Trump said he would clean the swamp, they are part of it. He has two parties to worry about. The Soros Democrat’s and the Republican’s. Also, I’m hoping the Hollywood set will get out of our country as they said they would. I’d help pay for their ticket to maybe Syria, where they will have no rights at all. These people and the music people are nuts. Don’t know when they are well off. Let them be beheaded over in one of those countries. You know damn well they aren’t going anywhere and if they go to Canada, then make it possible they can’t ever come back to the USA to make a movie again, or perform on stage. Get rid of Beyoncé, Jay Z and Whoopi, and the rest of the people who can and will ruin our country. They should close down The View, now. Get her and her kind off TV for good. Also, fire Juan Williams on The Five, they fired Bob Beckel, so they can get rid of that jerk, too. Remember when he was fired from Republic Broadcasting for making a remark that seeing a Muslim in robes scared him, well he certainly has changed his tune now, when he blows off on The Five. He keeps belittling Trump for wanting to stop the Muslims from coming across our borders. I agree with Trump, they are letting Isis people in our country, and Obama’s administration is loaded with Muslims, telling him what to do, since he never knew anything about what was going on in our country, to begin with. He will go down in history ad the worst President we have ever had, but this is getting off the subject of Trump picking his cabinet. Hope he succeeds in giving the jobs to good people.

Ted Cruz for Supreme Court, he is pro Constitution, as it is written. His Globalist wife is a question mark.

I have read all of the above comments and they were great! I’ve decided to put in my two cents’ worth, though, since some of you brought up points that I hadn’t thought of and I have a few of my own that I haven’t heard mentioned.

Sec of State definitely should go to Rudy Giuliani. Although he is a bit older and flying all over the world may be a bit taxing, I think he is soft-spoken (to disagree with someone above) yet carries a big stick. The world knows who he is from 9/11 and I think they have great respect for him. Bolton, on the other hand, I feel is too hawkish and too heavy-handed. That position essentially is a diplomatic one and I think Rudy would be the best fit.

I like the idea of Judge Napolitano as a Supreme Court Justice in the best tradition of Antonin Scalia. We can worry about the other vacancies as they become available although someone mentioned Cruz and I agree, he would be good.

Several have mentioned Sheriffs Clarke and Arpaio. Great choices! Clarke would be good as head of Homeland Security since he seems knowledgeable in many areas while Arpaio as head of ICE since he’s had a lot of experience at handling illegals.

Trey Gowdy would be good as AG. Young and gets to the meat of the matter.

I’m not too familiar with Bolton except as a Hawk and know virtually nothing of Newt.

Rudy for AG, Newt for Sec. of State, Bolton for US Ambassador, Judge Jeanine for Supreme Court, Huckabee for Homeland
Security, Sheriff Clarke for FBI director, Allen West for Dept. of Defense

    After reading all these comments, here are my thoughts: Ted Cruz, NO; any Democrats, NO; Dr. Ben Carson, Definitely YES; Sheriff Clark, Definitely YES; Mayor G. Definitely yes; Ex Speaker G. Definitely YES; Bolten, Yes; Allen West, Sec. Of Defense; Trey Gowdy, Definitely YES; Judge Judy, Supreme Court; Sarah Palin, Yes; Chris Cristi, Yes;

AND ANY OTHERS THAT DONALD and/0r MIKE agree with.

Giuliani will be fine as secretary of state, he ran NYC which is like running a nation and he had plenty of meetings with foreign officials but there should also be lots of competition in that spot. for attorney general however he had no competition at all,he would have been the best, the hot potato would have been to prosecute or not the Clinton foundation, that spot might then go to Gingrich, but we’re talking about experienced people with plenty of experience in government.we’ll be ok. i guess Giuliani would be there at State as a firewall for Trump and yes he will do a very good job.

I am of the belief that John Bolton would be best as Secretary of State and that Rudy would be better at something in law enforcement..FBI ..CIA ..or something of that nature. No question that Trey Gowdy should be head of DOJ ! And General Patreus should be given a pardon and brought back into the military. He’s too much of a good resource to waste. I believe that the NEA, the EPA and the IRS should all be abolished forever. Glean from Obannananocare anything useful and reasonable and trash the rest of it.

from the outside looking in, not a big financial supporter, but I have been tooten your horn ever since you threw your hat in the ring. I want to express my sincere congratulations to you Mr. Trump, Mr. Pence, Dr. Carson and your entire family and staff, I feel you have made a good call on Mr. Christie, as he seems to have some extra baggage that needs to be addressed. This is a personnel observation , if you have an opportunity to check out the Colorado Senate race, it was won by Michael Bennet (D) by a slim margin, partly because Mitch Montel pulled GOP funding from his race, if you folks could take a look at his platform and the planks as he is a retired Military Officer, thought you might have a spot in your awesome team for this gentleman, Darryl Glenn, thank you for your time, and may the Good Lord take a liken to you folks!!!!!!

President -elect Donald Trump is a man of good judgement and he has a very good panel of advisers who are in the transition committee and Guiliani is great candidate for the job and if he refuses it would nice if the committee consider Gingrich and Ronna Romeny McDaniel I think would do great job as RNC and her name being considered for the post

Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with Washington. For the past eight years, the Republicans & some members of the Democratic party have refused to work. The Republicans led by Newt Gingrich wanted the president to fail. The Democrats for fear of losing their seats in the house/senate. So much for patriotism. They were all therefore collecting their checks illegally. Gone were the days when everyone got together after the election “for good of country”. The talk against big government is a myth. If all the other levels of government get bigger, so will the federal government.
This so called movement is a smoke screen. Trump is about Trump. His talk about “draining the swamp” is a joke. Just look at his transition team. It starts with Chris Christie, Rudy Guliani & Newt Gingrich, all “damaged goods”. Their records speak for themselves. If Trump calls calls Hillary “crooked”, what would he call those guys? Don’t get me wrong, he is no better. Trump is on record saying Christie is crooked. Guliani became wealthy and famous because of 9/11. Gingrich was having an affair while heading the charge to impeach Bill Clinton for having one.

Let’s all get off the party band wagon and find folks of ethical and moral character to do the people’s work. Trump is as crooked as they come but right now, he is what we have.

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN !!! We all have to have faith right now and wish Mr. Trump the best…..he will do what is best for our Country and get us on the right road again.

Nothing personal, but Ronna has been identified as being a niece of Mitt Romney. Someone up in the posts wanted new, but capable blood in the White House, and I agree with that.
