Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has made a fortune with a savvy eye for investing, and well-planned business deals.
Trump has attached a price tag to an economic vision for America and is promising what many economists say is impossible: lower taxes, a dramatic expansion in some federal programs and a slimmer government running a smaller deficit.
But Trump’s vision for America is just the kind of ambitious leadership and forward thinking that made him rich — and America so great.
And the Republican nominees new economic agenda has outlined the bold strategy America needs to return to that greatness.
No more whining. No more excuses. Just get the job done.
In a speech Thursday to the Economic Club of New York, Trump said that his plan — a mix of tax cuts, regulation elimination and new spending — would reduce the nation’s tax burden by $4.4 trillion over 10 years and create 25 million new jobs.
Trump and his advisers say that would lead to booming economic growth of as much as 4 percent a year, which would make up for most of that lost tax revenue along with an infusion of new money from trade, energy and regulatory reforms.
The rest would come from almost $1 trillion in spending cuts made over the next decade, which Trump would accomplish by cutting one penny from every dollar from certain segments of the government each year.
“My plan will embrace the truth that people flourish under a minimum government burden and will tap into the incredible, unrealized potential of our workers and their dreams,” Trump said.
Trump proposal brings specifics into the original campaign promises that several Republican economists thought wasn’t possible, and his new vision has them rethinking their original objections.
“Trump took the budgetary criticism seriously, and made a case that it actually adds up,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who was John McCain’s economic policy director in the 2008 campaign and now is president of the American Action Forum.
Trump also introduced plans for an entirely new federal benefit this week, six weeks guaranteed paid maternity leave. He said he’d pay for that by cutting waste and fraud in the nation’s unemployment program.
David McIntosh, the president of the conservative Club for Growth, hailed the plan, saying it “should be the centerpiece of what he runs on.”
The heart of Trump’s plan is a revised tax code, which includes a pledge that no business should pay more than 15 percent of its income in taxes, down from the current 35 percent corporate tax rate. Few businesses now pay the full 35 percent rate, taking advantage instead of many deductions in the existing tax code.
He also proposed simplifying the U.S. tax code for individuals, reducing the current seven tax brackets to three: 12 percent, 25 percent and 33 percent of income after deductions.
As president, Trump said he would cut the number of regulations imposed by the federal government, including some that are designed to combat climate change and protect the food Americans eat.
Now, it’s simply up to voters to decide if they want a slice of the pie.

While I have had some concerns about Mr. Trump, his more disciplined approach to his comments, sharing his more personable side, has comforted me. I know his ideas are great, and they follow the typical policies of the greatest Republicans – free the people of governmental intrusion – free them to “pursue happiness – free them to accomplish their goals!
I resolved to vote for Trump but with trepidation – mostly because I detest Hillary Clinton – especially since Benghazi – but have actually felt the birth of enthusiasm as I believe a President Trump will remain true to the goals he has stated and, if the Republican maintain their leads in the Senate and House, these goals can be more easily realized.

Rob Hunt…It used to be unlawful to use specific taxes, fees etc. collected for highways etc. to be used for other purposes. Same with Social Security. Then government started using these taxes and fees in the General fund to be used wherever, so there’s never enough money for what it was intended and the need to keep increasing taxes and regulatory fees. It doesn’t take a genius to understand the problem. Most of us have to manage our own finances sensibly to survive. The law doesn’t allow us to take our neighbor’s property to cover our financial mismanagement.

I worked in a hospital for ten years, during a particularly rough year, all our managers to a pay cut to avoid layoffs. It’s the most generous gesture I’ve seen in years. Without adequate staff patient care suffers.
I hope he cuts bureaucracy and not just waste. The Ol’ Department of Education would be a good start. If he doesn’t get Congress to boldly let go of un-needed bureaucracy, it’s only going to leave a foothold or Democrats. If Republicans take control of all three chambers, it would especially be a wasted opportunity.
If he gives maternity leave (which philosophically I disagree with, and will also leave a foothold for Democrats for further expansion) and makes it mandatory for companies to distinguish between natural and artificially designed foods, it would be a legacy for the Republican Party, and would begin to ensure a good reputation for a broader base of young and future constituents.
To not protect our food is your typical “Republican Fascist” mistake that sends a signal to the younger generation that Republicans are still careless, and still out of touch. You can’t get between a Millennial and their health, even if they themselves are reckless. It is clearly an assault on the citizenry if we are not making companies inform the public of artificial ingredients and toxins in their products. The Obama/Clinton economic plan has driven the nation deep into debt but has not brought prosperity. It’s time for a change. Perhaps the efforts to lower the corporate tax rate could include some incentive for more of the company’s earning to go to the stockholders as dividends. That will help get the money circulating in the economy.
This isn’t rocket science people. You want to make cuts, you don’t cut the earth itself. You cut politicians getting oddles of dollars every year. Get rid of irs, as they’re an unnecessary evil, and .25 on the dollar for every dollar spent will bring in every penny you need to get rid of debt and give back to the country. I support Trump 100% – I wish he would talk more about the issues and less about Hillery. Would like to hear him say he is against lobbiest as the exist today and the fact our polititions exempt themselves from just every thing they act upon. If it is good for you and me it should be good for them. I think issues like that would gain more votes. My wife and I both worked in the government in D. C. and saw things first hand. If we clean up 10% of federal waste all of his plans to cut taxes etc. will happen at no additional cost. If Hillery gets in I’m convinced there will be nothing left for my grandchildren.
Don’t laugh folks, but the largest business I have owned/run was a set of three street hotdog stands. I had to be registered with the city and county. I had to buy insurance and I had to be inspected. (And my insurance rates were about as high as a regular-sized restaurant.) So I had to figure out how much I needed to earn to pay all expenses-including 3 extra employees. I had to figure how much to charge for a sandwich, chips, water/pop, etc. Even this small business could get complicated. But I have to admit that when people talk about million/billions/trillions of dollars I have no ability to understand what’s going on. My eyes glaze over and my head spins and I tune out. At some point I have to trust the experts who have handled large sums of money/investments and know how to use those complicated computer programs. So it comes down to trust. One candidate lies every time her lips move. And the other candidate (Trump) has probably been involved with many shady business deals, but at least he understands business and taxes and regulations. So I have to roll the dice and vote for Trump. He’s the best of these two candidates.
He had me until the unspecified spending part. That’s been our bane, to get rid of the unnecessary and politically correct programs that have drained our coffers and made us the greatest debtor nation in world history. His child care plan sounds suspiciously like progressive ‘family planning’ and ‘cradle-to-grave’ albatrosses that have helped to destroy the family unit as well as the economy.
Why would AP contribute to a post that presents a POSITIVE article about Mr. Trump when THEY were cohorts in RIGGING the votes for “Jezebel” against Sanders & possibly will use it to steal the votes from “The Donald” when it comes to the Election???
What I like about the whole economics idea is it is coming from many economic professionals and a person that has ventured in many high priced business deals (some bad but mostly good) and a person that is not a career politician and in the back pockets of corporate greed. That in itself should be better then any career politician. This county has tried both parties for many many years but all were career politicians so this is a fresh new path that I think most would want to take as the others have proven not to work.
If Trump can actually cut back on spending and gov’t that would be a big help itself. Something else that I think would help is if there was a reform on welfare (that actually was enforced) and stricter disability reform to kick the millions of fraudulent cases off disability would save millions. Welfare was set up for temporary relief and not generations of welfare to families. You sign up for welfare and if you claim the children you have, once on welfare if you have another child you don’t get anymore money then when you signed up, housing gets checked regularly and unannounced to cut down on the women collecting welfare and supposedly not knowing who the father is but has him living at the same place.
Disability should have to get checked regularly by both their doctors and a state doctor to ensure their disabilities actually match each others. It is pretty bad when someone collecting disability (bad back) can go out and play 36 holes of golf during the day and then that same night go play a double header of softball. Or a mother collecting disability for MS and her son was living with her (on disability himself unknown reason) then goes to jail for minimum of 8 years for B/R and stealing drugs but she now collects his disability check and sends him $50 dollars a month while he’s in jail. Yes I have turned in both parties from both scenarios the latest just recently.
There are many things Trump can do to help cut spending and as for the wall Mexico will pay for well Mexico or the US don’t have to pay for it but let the drug cartel that has their monies and lavish home confiscated pay for the wall.
I truly believe if Trump gets in office he will surprise a hell of a lot of people party because Trump does really care about this country and partly because his ego will not let him become a bad president.
