New York City Mayor Eric Adams has bashed Republican governors for busing illegal immigrants to the Big Apple — but in a shocking twist, officials in a foreign country have revealed Adams is shipping illegals out of his city… and skirting U.S. immigration laws, to boot.
Adams has complained for months about being on the receiving end of truckloads of illegal immigrants from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, both Republicans.
“It’s unfair,” he said at a press conference, that two Republican governors have sent a relative handful of illegal aliens to the “sanctuary city.” Two Democrats, the mayor of El Paso and Colorado Governor Jared Polis, have also participated in the caravan of illegals to NYC.
“This is a federal issue. This is a national issue. El Paso should not have gone through that,” Adams said last month. “This is wrong for the cities of America to take this on.”
But it turns out the Democrats’ darling has been busing the same illegals not only out of New York, but out of the country—across the northern border.
Adams has loaded New York-bound illegals onto buses bound for Plattsburgh, New York, just 20 miles from the border with Canada, the New York Post reported. From there, they take a taxi to Roxham Road in Champlain, where they walk across the border into Canada and apply for asylum.
He’s not just sending a few: He’s shipping out as many as 250 illegal immigrants across the Canadian border every day — 39,161 last year, when New York City processed only 45,000 itself, according to the Post.
Not only is he sending a lot of illegals to the Great White North, but he’s skirting U.S. and Canadian law in the process.
Under the Safe Third Country Agreement, a legally binding agreement the U.S. and Canada signed in 2004, “migrants” have to apply for asylum at the first country they enter. In this case, that’s the United States.
But the agreement is only enforced at legal border crossings… and Roxham Road is not a legal crossing, so Adams found a loophole to offload the illegals flooding his sanctuary city.
Canadian government officials blew the whistle on the shady practice, which Quebec’s immigration minister Christine Fréchette called “surprising.”
“Any form of assistance to migrants crossing the border where it is strictly forbidden to do so should stop immediately,” the office of Quebec Premier Francois Legault told the Post. “We understand that the situation of migrants in New York poses major challenges, but the situation in Quebec and particularly in Montreal is even worse and constitutes an important humanitarian issue.”
New York City (population 8.1 million) has roughly five times as many people as Montreal, Quebec’s largest city (1.7 million).
The influx of illegals is already wreaking havoc on Quebec, which was long a culturally homogeneous area of French-speaking Canada that has sought to declare independence to embrace its French culture.
They want to protect their culture… by building a wall.
One of the province’s political parties, the Parti Québécois, has demanded the government set up an “enclave” to block illegals from crossing its southern border with America.
Despite international backlash, Adams has defended himself by saying he’s not getting rid of illegal immigrants. Instead, he’s making their dreams come true… by dumping them on someone else.
“We are not encouraging anyone to go to another country,” Mayor Adams insisted earlier this month. “If we speak with a migrant, interview them, find out their desires and make sure that we are assisting them like we’ve done.”
After an interview, if illegal aliens can be talked into saying they’re “seeking to go somewhere else, we are helping in the reticketing process,” Adams added.
“Some want to go to Canada; some want to go to warmer states and we are there for them as they continue to move on with their pursuit of this dream.”
Democrats are just “assisting” these “dreamers” to go somewhere else, he said.
Despite his refusal to house, clothe, or feed the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who have come to the city, Adams said amending or repealing New York City’s sanctuary city status is “not on the agenda at all.”
Instead, he’s making Quebec a sanctuary for the world’s illegal immigrants he invites but won’t take care of.
