“On the Holmes Front” with Frank Holmes
Everyone who watched Michael Cohen testify before Congress this week can be absolutely certain about one thing: He’s a liar.
President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer (his “fixer,” as the mainstream media calls him) himself said, “I have lied, but I am not a liar.”
But a broken clock, and a broken man, are right once in awhile.
There is at least one thing Michael Cohen told the truth about this last week: He’s a fool.
Cohen had to sell the American public on why he worked for Donald Trump for 10 years if the president is really “a racist,” “a conman,” and “a cheat.’
So, Cohen called himself a “fool”—and for once, we couldn’t believe him more.
Make no mistake why Cohen testified: He was saving his own skin.
He has lost his law license and been sentenced to three years in prison for his admitted crimes of tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations—so he thought rolling over on Trump would let help him save face.
Cohen admitted on the stand that he’s “in constant contact” with the legal department that threw the book at him.
So, Mr. Cohen went to Washington, D.C. — and wasted everybody’s time.
Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz called Cohen’s stint in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee “a pointless hearing.”
“The public got to see what Special Counsel Robert Mueller apparently saw: no evidence of Trump campaign collusion with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election,” he wrote.
Cohen supplied one new piece of evidence: Checks made out to him that he claimed were reimbursements for paying hush money to pornstar Stormy Daniels. The checks to Daniels (whose real name is Stephanie Clifford) totaled $130,000—and Cohen already plead guilty to “campaign finance” crimes for paying her off.
But it’s not clear what he copped to is against the law. Being blackmailed isn’t a crime; blackmailing someone is a crime. So, if anyone should to go jail for trying to cover up the story of Trump’s one-night stand, it’s Stormy.
What about proof of “Russian collusion”? Democrats asked him point blank, and he choked again.
When asked if he caught Trump doing dirty deeds with Vladimir Putin, Cohen said, “I wouldn’t use the word colluding.”
Collusion isn’t a crime—and Cohen, the Democrats’ star witness, said Trump didn’t even do that.
Cohen was supposed to be the point man for a deal with the Russians, which Cohen flew to Prague to sign. But in his testimony, he said he’d never been to Prague in his life.
The Democrats threw everything at him: Was Trump guilty of adultery, blackmail, abusing his wife, paying for abortions?
Cohen shot down every single charge. The Democrats’ Exhibit A shredded their case on national TV.
True, Democrats will make a lot of Cohen’s claim that Trump knew about the 2016 WikiLeaks dump days before it happened. Cohen said he heard about it when he was with Roger Stone, who had a phone call with Trump on speakerphone.
But people who know Stone say that’s just bogus. He would never use a speakerphone with a client, period, let alone if they were discussing something illegal.
Then there were the outright lies Cohen told.
Cohen said it was his idea for Trump to run for president. But Cohen has only worked for Trump for 10 years—and Trump first ran for president 20 years, for the Reform Party.
He said Trump “never expected to win”—then he turned around and said Trump “is all about winning and will do what is necessary to win.”
When Congressman Jim Jordan asked Cohen if he was bitter that he wasn’t chosen as chief of staff, Cohen said he never wanted to come to Washington.
But David Bossie, Donald Trump Jr., and other figures in the Trump campaign all said Cohen lobbied hard for the top spot—and stalked off to contemplate his revenge when he lost it.
I told you that #cohen lobbied dozens for the job and was totally dejected when he didn’t get it.
That he could once again lie under oath is almost as sad as him thinking he would ever actually get the job. https://t.co/ftTnxaLsjV

Michael Cohen asked…no, BEGGED me REPEATEDLY, to ask the POTUS to give him a job in the Administration! He’s STILL lying under oath!

What can you make out of all that? Not a case for impeachment. It would take a political revolution to turn Michael Cohen’s word salad into an indictment—but don’t be surprised if the Democrats try their best.
The only conclusion is that Cohen is a fool.
He’s a fool for hiring Lanny Davis, the Clintons’ lawyer, to give him legal advice.
He’s a fool for pleading guilty.
And he’s a fool because he tried to rat out his boss of 10 years to save his own skin, and he didn’t even deliver.
If the Democrats somehow — with a few “Never Trump” Republicans — bounce President Trump out of office and put a socialist in his place, Cohen will be the biggest fool who ever lived.
And no one will be laughing.
