Dozens of emaciated-looking Boko Haram members begging for food have surrendered in northeast Nigeria, the military and a civilian self-defense fighter said Wednesday.
Seventy-six people including children and women gave themselves up to soldiers last Saturday in Gwoza, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, according to a senior officer.
All are being detained at military headquarters in Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram and currently the command center of the war against the Islamic extremists, according to the officer. He insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to journalists.
The detainees said many more fighters want to surrender, a self-defense civilian fighter who helped escort them to Maiduguri told The Associated Press.
Food shortages could indicate that Nigeria’s military is succeeding in choking supply routes of the Islamic extremists who have taken their fight across Nigeria’s borders. Some 20,000 people have died in the 6-year-old uprising. Boko Haram was declared the deadliest of all terror groups in 2014, surpassing the Islamic State group to which it declared allegiance last year.
Nigeria’s military reported that dozens of Boko Haram fighters were surrendering in September and October last year. It promised those who give themselves up voluntarily that they will be rehabilitated through a de-radicalization program.
In the 10 months since he took office promising to halt the insurgency, President Muhammadu Buhari has replaced the leadership of the military, moved the headquarters for the fight from the distant capital, Abuja, to the heart of the northeastern insurgency and resupplied soldiers.
The military has driven the insurgents from the towns and villages where they had set up an Islamic caliphate but Boko Haram has returned to hit-and-run tactics and suicide bombings.

I must respectfully beg to differ on your claim that Ms. Clinton—and by implication the United States—has turned her back on Nigeria or the people of the region under the oppression of Boko Haram. The logic behind such a statement appears to be that since we have not invaded, we have left helpless civilians—men, women, and children—to the mercy of those who show no mercy. This is simply not true.
Before one can understand what we ARE doing, one must first understand the problems with having large numbers of US troops operating in this arena. First, is that Nigeria, like many African nations, is a country divided along both ethnic and religious lines. Our troops, however, are mostly incapable of distinguishing between the various ethnicities and tribes, and so would have a difficult time discerning friend from foe within the combat zone. The inability to identify the enemy would lead to significant casualties to our forces and probably to civilians because we would not know who to shoot, which puts Boko Haram fighters at the advantage of firing first. Sustained casualties of such a nature is something the American people will not tolerate for long. Further, American forces are unfamiliar with the terrain. The terrain problem can be quickly overcome, but it will still take time to adjust. Meanwhile, American forces will be at a disadvantage.
Thankfully, we do have allies in the region. First, the French are very active within this region of Africa. France used to own colonies within this part of the continent, and it still maintains active relations with its former holdings. The French may not have a good reputation in the United States for being warfighters, but they still maintain a competent military, especially in comparison to many African nations. There is also a multinational coalition of African countries currently fighting against Bok Haram. This coalition includes Nigeria and its neighbors: Benin, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. The French and the multinational coalition DO know the people well enough to distinguish friend from foe, and they know the territory. So, instead of flying in with guns blazing, risking American lives in a foolhardy venture to free the oppressed, it is wiser to support those who actually know what they are doing. In doing so, America would be minimizing losses on both sides.
The middle route of assistance is the route the United States has chosen. Instead of being the heroes most conservatives want the US to be, the US government has chosen to support those most capable of handling the situation by providing what we do best: technology, intelligence, and strategy. Most of the nations with boots on the ground cannot afford satellites or drones, and they are not as experienced as the US in gathering intelligence. So, we have been aiding them with intelligence operations. Mines and IEDs have also been particularly harmful to the mostly infantry-based coalition troops; this is similar to what the US faced in Afghanistan and Iraq. Unlike the African nations, we were able to develop MRAPs and AFVs to protect against such explosive traps. Much of this equipment is still overseas waiting to be shipped back to the US, or they are to be scrapped because the cost of shipping them back to the US is too expensive. Instead of doing either, we have been providing these spare AFVs and other equipment to assist in clearing minefields and roadways to reduce coalition casualties. Finally, the US has provided a limited number of troops to the multinational coalition to assist in training and coordinating troops in the fight against Boko Haram.
Probably the most important thing the US is doing to help Nigeria is that we provide accountability for the Nigerian government: we insure they root out corruption and we hold them accountable for civilian casualties—both of which will go far in healing the country and stabilizing it in the future.
Overall, I may not agree with everything this administration has done, but I do not fault them with doing nothing in the case of Boko Haram.

3 – Vince Foster – Former White House Councilor, and colleague of Hillary Clinton at Little Rock ‘s Rose Law Firm. Died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide. (He was about to testify against Hillary related to the records she refused to turn over to congress.) Was reported to have been having an affair with Hillary.
4 – Ron Brown – Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown’s skull resembling a gunshot wound. A few days later the Air Traffic controller committed suicide.

Those who remain in Boko Haram should be targeted and killed. Those who surrender should be interrogated. If any can be charged with criminal acts they should face the justice system.

The problem with making blanket, biased, and sweeping generalizations like this is that if one can find a SINGLE EXCEPTION, anywhere in the world, then the premise is completely destroyed.
Since quite a few Muslims live peaceably, there must be some teachings in the Qu’ran which reject violence and oppression; if so, part of that rehabilitation should necessarily include a different take on what the Qu’ran says…especially if those blowing themselves up and randomly murdering people were illiterate, only being TOLD what the Qu’ran allegedly says.
Same thing happened during Crusades, didn’t it? The largely illiterate were told that Jesus loves killing your enemies – a baldfaced lie, 180 degrees opposed to what Christ ACTUALLY said, but enough to get the massacres started, obviously.
Do some research on the number of battles and the area involved with the crusades. You’ll find the crusades were nothing more than a few skirmishes compared to the Islamic conquering of territory and systematic attempts and successes to dominate the territory involved. There is no comparison. People always try to cry about the crusades, but they were nothing but a MEAGER attempt to stop the conquering and slaughter that was going on by the Muslims, Who were doing back then the same thing they are doing today.
The crusades were a response to the horrific political and military expansion of the Muslims surrounding infiltrating slaughtering huge swaths of territory and spreading their brutal philosophy of non tolerance. They were a response to a cry for help.
