Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., needed just three words to describe Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and the far-left of the Democratic Party — and it brought the house down at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2019 on Friday
“The Democrats have gone bat-crap crazy,” Cruz told the cheering crowd. “If you look at the medical dictionary, it’s under B. It’s a medical condition.”
“They’re getting more and more extreme on every issue,” Cruz said of Ocasio-Cortez’s Democrats.
“Just look at their recent push to legalize infanticide and so-called ‘late-term’ abortions,” Cruz told the crowd .”Bill Clinton once said ‘Safe, legal, and rare’ — but that’s no longer the position of the Democratic Party. They’re for abortion up to the moment of birth… or ever after birth!”
That’s not the only position Cruz’s Democratic colleagues have become far-left on .
“The old Democratic position was secure the border, and to have amnesty,” the Texas senator said. “Now they want to open the border and have amnesty.”
“If you look at the fight over the border wall, it’s not about substance. At the end of the day it’s really simple,” Cruz continued. “It’s emotional, visceral hate. They don’t actually have an argument.”
“It breaks down to this: Trump equals wall. We, the Democrats, hate Trump. Therefore, no wall,” he explained.
Later in the speech, Cruz broke down why Ocasio-Cortez and her political allies are pushing the Democrats far-left.
“The very opening words of the movie The Godfather are ‘I believe in America’ – let me tell you, I believe in America,” he said. “One of the things that drives the media and the far-left crazy about President Trump is that he’s willing to actually stand up and defend America.”
“There are many pathological problems that afflict the left, but one of them is a fundamental embarrassment about America’s greatness,” Cruz continued. “You saw that when Barack Obama started his presidency with a worldwide apology tour.”
“Liberals are ashamed of America’s prosperity,” he said. “They’re ashamed of our strength.”
