Violent street thugs turned a New Orleans playground into a battlefield in a shocking Sunday evening gun fight.
Hundreds of people were gathered at a New Orleans playground for a block party and music video shoot when two groups in the crowd opened fire on each other, wounding both adults and children. 16 people were shot in the firefight, police said.
Police said 10 people were taken to the hospital in ambulances while another six were taken in private vehicles. Photos of the scene showed emergency workers wheeling some of the wounded to ambulances on gurneys while other people who appeared to be in pain lay on the ground.
Joseph Jordan was inside a house across the street from the park with his friend, who gave her first name as Raven, when they heard gunshots. Later someone called Raven and told her that her niece had been shot. The two rushed to the hospital to check on the 14-year-old, who had been shot three times in the leg.
Speaking of the hospital, Jordan said: “It’s still crowded back there.”
Outside University Medical Center, Kawandra Hayney said she had been driving about two or three blocks from the playground with her daughter when people ran by shooting. Her 14-year-old daughter was hit once in the knee and five times in her backside. Hayney pulled her daughter out of the truck and under it to hide, then into a nearby ditch.
“I saw the police coming, and I ran over to them,” she said. She said she later counted seven bullet holes in her truck.
Investigators don’t know what started the shooting, police spokesman Tyler Gamble said. He said all the victims are listed in stable condition. He said the victims suffered either direct gunshot wounds or were grazed by bullets.
Large stadium lights lit up the park Sunday night as police continued to work the crime scene. Witnesses told police that the gunmen ran off after the shooting was over.
As many as 500 people could have been in the park when the shooting happened, said police chief Michael Harrison. Police earlier said the people were there for an impromptu music video but Gamble later told reporters that while a video was being filmed, the event was a primarily a block party.
Police Superintendent Michael Harrison told WDSU-TV that the shooting might have been gang-related. Police had been helping with a parade that had been taking place about a block away from the park, and were able to quickly get to the park, Harrison told the TV station.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu, speaking in a news conference aired on WWL-TV, called on people who were in the park to come forward with information. The police have also asked people who might have any video of the shooting to bring it to police.
“At the end of the day it’s really hard to police against a bunch of guys who decide to pull out guns and settle their disputes with 300 people in between them. That’s just not something you can tolerate in the city,” Landrieu said.

They were probably doing the shooting! I worked in the ghetto of Chicago for over a decade and this was and is a common scenario on the weekend, so I guess NO is no different.
It is said cops don’t know the reason for the shooting. There usually is no reason for the shootings with gangs on drugs!

The only ones defenseless would be the law abiding citizens. This is the playground, where I grew up, as a child. My family home was two blocks from the park. Bunny was the nickname of a New Orleans socialite, and the park, as a symbol of the city’s friendship for her. While I grew up in a segregated society, we never had any problems with racial occurrences. Thanks to the teachings of Obama and his Saul Alinsky’s philosophy, the country is full of racial animosity. Wake up, America. When we lose our children, we will lose the country.

Despite the media frenzy over shootings, the stats are that there is LESS gun crime since 20 years ago. There is just more media hype about it. Where IS crime, especially gun crime, rampant? In Democrat-led cities where the true carnage occurs as black-on-black homicide driven by gun laws that prohibit gun ownership by law-abiding citizens. Read the book More Guns-Less Crime to get the numbers on how more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens drives DOWN gun violence. We don’t have as many burglaries in the rural areas because burglars know we have guns. We have shootings in schools because the shooters know they will not meet with an armed teacher or administrator.
Hopefully the shooters will be identified so they can face justice for their part in this event. Each of the shooters needs to receive hard time for this senseless gun battle. Whether foreign or domestic, terrorism on American streets will not be tolerated.

Does anyone think any of those guns were purchased legally? We know they weren’t. Making guns illegal will not get those illegal guns off the streets any more than making drugs illegal got drugs off the street.

My leaning, presently, is to combine any defensive device (including mace, tear gas, etc.) with a simple cell phone; so the ideal is that a record of where it is; and ideally, should it be desired to be used, a way to connect to a system that can help bring order quickly to the area by dispatching those qualified to secure and quell the situation. Also, if those who get ~happy~ using a weapon when intoxicated, have the sense to secure their devices in a way that prevents them from using them while under the influence, then perhaps even those that would do such deeds would be happier with themselves in the long run also.

Thugs will be thugs. It’s a shame they have so little regard for their own (women, children, men), makes you wonder what their parents are like. Thought that went through my mind, is this the neighborhood that they live in, will it end up they knew those families that were laughing, enjoying life, enjoying each other’s company? BLM they won’t come, their to busy trying to get a white person fired from their job, or publicly humiliated over some slight they think they are guilty of. Only thing that matters to them, black vs white and they can get on TV raising hell about it. No real group that is trying to help, just star struck individuals wanting their 15 minutes of fame. My prayers go out to those innocent people who where hurt, and to the family members who got a phone call one of their loved ones has been shot. What has America become.
