Both former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama have been sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the perfect moment to get involved in the 2020 presidential election.
But with 25 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination, the Obamas are going to wait to see how things play out before they endorse a candidate.
That is bad news for Joe Biden, who served as Obama’s vice president for eight years. Biden has been slipping in recent polls. An endorsement would help his standing among hardcore Democrats.
But the Obamas aren’t just being quiet — they’re flat-out refusing to talk about Biden.
While speaking with CBS host Gayle King over the weekend at the Essence Festival, the former first lady was asked about the 2020 election and if they were ready to endorse a certain candidate.
Obama said they would support “whoever wins the primary” and that their “primary focus is letting the primary process play out because it’s very early.”
“I mean that’s one of the things that we learned in the campaign. It is early. It’s like trying to figure out who is going to win the World Series on the first seven games, I mean that’s where we are right now. It is so early and things will change,” she added.
At another point in the event, King gave Obama a second chance to endorse Biden.
When King asked about the Kamala Harris-Joe Biden “dust-up” during the first Democratic primary debate late last month, Obama wouldn’t say one nice thing about Biden.
“I’ve been doing this rodeo far too long,” Obama said. “And no comment.”

Biden came under fire for praising his work in the U.S. Senate with segregationists in Congress during the 1970s and his position on government-mandated busing.
During the debate, Harris took Biden to the woodshed and labeled the former VP as being a racist who enjoyed working with bigoted Senators in Congress — and the far-left Democrats, who love these accusations, ate it up.
It’s remarkable that Obama rejected two opportunities from King to defend Biden.
All she had to say was “Biden is not a racist,” but she refused to even do that.
Biden served as the No. 2 in the Obama administration for eight years, and the former first lady not only refused to defend him against these allegations, she also made it clear the Obamas may not even endorse him for president.
Since announcing his third run at the presidency back in April (his first two failed attempts were in 1988 and 2007), Biden has made a slew of controversial comments that have hurt his campaign.
For starters, Biden has a long history of flip-flopping on critical issues and making threatening comments towards President Donald Trump.
Just last week, he threatened to “smack” President Trump in the mouth if he faces off against him in the 2020 general election.
Biden has a serious issue with threatening violence against his political opponents.
During a campaign stop in June, Biden told a crowd he wanted to start a “real physical revolution” and would use “brass knuckles” if the Republican-controlled Senate refused to pass his leftist agenda as commander in chief.
“There are certain things where it just takes a brass knuckle fight,” Biden began, detailing his sick fantasy.
“Or let’s start a real physical revolution if you’re talking about it because we have to be able to change what we’re doing within our system,” Biden added.
While he apologized last week, the former VP is still in hot water and being attacked for boasting about how proud he was to work with two pro-segregation Democratic Senators back in the 1970s.
It’s so bad, Michelle Obama won’t even say a word in support.
That must sting.
