In his infamous 1963 inauguration speech, Alabama Governor George Wallace uttered the frightening phrase, “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.”
Now, more than half a century later, a major liberal university seems to be taking the disturbing message to heart.
California State University Los Angeles has just made the bizarre announcement that it intends to provide segregated housing solely for black students.
And the idea behind this dorm was built on a plot of hypocrisy.
The school announced the opening of the Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community for the fall of 2016, approximately nine months after the Black Student Union issued a list of outlandish demands to the school president.
The CSULA housing services claim the exclusively black living space provides an opportunity for “cultural awareness and civic engagement.” University spokesman Robert Lopez told The College Fix that the housing’s focus is to provide, “learning experiences that are inclusive and non-discriminatory.”
The Young America’s Foundation quotes the Halisi housing application (before it was removed from the university website) as saying those who live there must “respect the differences of others that live in my community,” and “be open to new ideas and experiences.”
But the Black Student Union had a different opinion on open-mindedness and inclusivity in February, when conservative speaker Ben Shapiro was delivering a speech at CSULA and members of the union barricaded multiple entrances blocking attendees from entering the event. The Daily Caller reported that “protesters were shoving or even punching at those attempting to push their way through to the event.”
If the Black Student Union is able to demand their own space to “congregate, connect and learn from each other,” shouldn’t the conservative student body be allowed this same right?
Their letter to the president claimed the demands were necessary because, “racially insensitive remarks, and micro-aggressions, by professors and students create a learning environment that is not conducive to the overall learning atmosphere.”
In addition to the need for their own gathering space, the Black Student Union’s demand for segregated housing was justified by the claim that black students need cheaper alternative housing more than the rest of the student body.
In an attempt to bring the black community closer together, the school may be consequently separating them more from the other 96 percent of non-black students.
Niger Innis, national spokesperson for the Congress of Racial Equality, told Fox News, “If they want to go to an institution that is racially diverse and integrated, then racial diversity and integration is part of it. To have a university-sanctioned segregation or separation is, to me, a bit troubling.”
CSULA is not the first college to provide racially exclusive dorms. University of Connecticut, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley all offer black-only housing.
The Halisi living community currently has a long waitlist and is no longer accepting applicants for the fall of 2016, according to CSULA.

Don’t judge me by the color of my skin! However if it gets me special treatment, scholarships and a job over higher test scorers then it’s all good. Hypocrites.
AMEN.
Unbelievable.
There’s nothing wrong w/ethnic enclaves on college campuses for those who want that experience.
All students should have the right to chose what kind of campus community they wish to live in.
There’s no right or wrong here, only choices. One size does not fit all.
This is the 60s all over again in reverse. But glad to see segregation coming back. Nothing wrong with it and obviously they want it. Now there should be no going back. This is the second time in the past fifty years the country has made consessions for this black bunch. No more.
This will be discussed in the future when the blacks realize they are being left behind but remember that they asked for this, we did not foist it on them. Segregation it is! And not more switching just for this small minority.
Would they allow a “white only” living community? I think not…
I would like to see the white students demand an all white leaving space. They would be called racists. The black students would riot. If black students have an all back living space; so should the white student population.
I believe the Universities are scared of the black students and fear of riots. Just look at what has happened in Wis. in the last couple of years.
They have gone just as far as they can go. This will not end well. Time has a way of weighing the odds and putting forward a Fair and Equal balance. When ever the scales tip to one group, it will only be set up right again. That is the nature of thing and Nature does have a way of paying back in its own coin.
The segregation is probably so they can compete with the rest of the students with some relaxed grading standards. Although some will say it’s racist, it seems obvious to most that the average American black is below average in mental capacity, just as they are above average in physical ability.
@ Ronald: I don’t believe in labels. You talk about physical ability. Actually according to government statistics, African-Americans are the most obese segment of our population. Our NFL and NBA stars aren’t even 1% of that demographic.
Ronald, you seem to be a fan of the modern father of racism, Charles Darwin (On The Origin… and The Descent of Man) and other ill informed notable followers like Shockley, etc., etc.,all were part of an agenda to discredit and debase darker people so so-called “whites” could look superior. It is the so-called “whites” who have been brainwashed into believing that they are a superior group who have fostered destruction wherever they are since by definition, they are racist.. When you have finished being a buffer for the elites, you will be squeezed like a lemon and discarded. Comprendo?
Dear Ron,
How do you determine human intelligence? IQ test scores? the ability to solve problems? creating hi-tech devices? living in peace & harmony w/those who are different that you? respecting the physical environment? flourishing in a hostile, racist society? Human intelligence is a very fluid phenomenon & no one race, class, or nation has a monopoly on it. Its evenly distributed among human populations. 10% genius, 20% intelligent, & 70% just average. This is true for all peoples.
Seems obvious to most? Most of whom? Racists?
You are, a man of ignorance.
Ron–Whether you are right or not, they do show below-average intelligence by segregating themselves, the very thing that they have been fighting against for, lo, these many moons.
Another in a long list of do as I say not as I do by the elite left who brought us the KKK and racism – wonderful group of people full of empathy and good will.
Yeah, I just don’t think I would knock on their door to buy a box of girl scout cookies.
Guess it’s no different than having “black colleges”. Why is this?
It sounds like black students are being given something that should be offered to everyone–the opportunity for segregated housing. Although I don’t support segregation, the opportunities provided to one ethnicity should be provided to all ethnicities. It seems the same institutions of higher learning which claim to be bastions of diversity and open-mindedness are embracing the same philosophies of the KKK and other white supremacist organizations. I guess history really does repeat itself.
I thought we are ALL Americans with the same rights and the same responsibilities. If they want something special like segregation, why does it have to be on the U.S. territory and the rest of us paying for it? They can be segregated to Africa and feel like at home among others of the same color of skin.
I came here from CZ. I never claimed to be a Czech American, just happy and proud to be an American!!!!!
And believe me, When I hear our national anthem I stand straight up with my hand on my heart because I appreciate life and opportunities here even though I don’t make millions a year. Where I came from they would be segregated behind bars with all their demands and disrespect. Do you think no one took advantage of me when I spoke broken English here with a terrible accent, no one “discriminated against me”? Of course, everyone who could, did. I think they should learn to appreciate what they have here.
When I was in the Army and the Navy(at differant times) I noticed that my comades all bled red blood when wounded. One saved my life. I don’t know what color he was, and didn’t care.
If they won’t the old days back, they will get what they want,no one wants to be around them either lol
Next thing you know they will have water fountains for Blacks only.
Interesting point. Any water fountain in the new dorm would indeed be “for Blacks only”.
The next question is: Do they get their own space in the front or back of the bus?
Now, just for fun, imagine what would happen if some group demanded “White only” housing…
I think this is an option that White students should have. All student groups should have this option. Hooray for the Black students at UCSLA for paving the way!! They are truly visionaries!!!
Excuse, but isn’t that reverse discrimination. Me thinks so.
This is an interesting trend. Affirmative action insures that they are seen as an inferior group.
Trump has a plan that Carson proposed that will give them a true hand up.
But if they want to be segregated………….they just want to be who they are.
I wonder how the graduation rate compares in segregated housing.
REVERSE Discrimination……. Just like the “Quota System” for school as well as business applications. Some deserving student or job seeker of European heritage loses out because of a QUOTA….. Hell…. You could substitute Asian, Latin, Martian, whatever for European.
In 1952 my mother traveled to Russia to (to visit her mother’s sisters). She commented upon the Soviet claim that they had a non-discriminating society thus: Almost everything you do requires filling out a governmental application. And every application asks about country of ancestry, religion and race. One doesn’t ask unless they plan to use the answers to choose aactions based upon those answers. Look up the definition of the word “discriminate”:
The first definition listed: recognize a distinction; differentiate.
“babies can discriminate between different facial expressions of emotion”
synonyms: differentiate, distinguish, draw a distinction, tell the difference, tell apart; separate, separate the sheep from the goats, separate the wheat from the chaff
“he cannot discriminate between fact and fiction”
This is just another thing that shows that many blacks do want to be segregated.
Has any liberal ever considered that GOD placed different races of different continents for a good reason? JUst maybe diversity is against GOD’s wishes.
California State University Los Angeles has thrown out Martin Luther King saying to judge a person by their character instead of their skin color. This University is now a radical segregationlist Malcolm X leftist communist college with poor academic standards because they took their emphasis off academics for Jim Crow Laws.
What, pray tell, was the great Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. trying to achieve with his superb, PEACEFUL anti-segregation work of the 1950’s and 1960’s? Hmm??? Was THIS what he REALLY wanted? These guys would all be the so called “good, old “home boys” of someone like a George Wallace (in his earlier days) or other narrow-minded, arrogant racists of our beloved homeland’s yester years. Is there something wrong with desiring that people NOT be judged by the color of their skin or their ethnic background?
Fine by me. I like black people as much as they like me.
‘Niger Innis, national spokesperson for the Congress of Racial Equality, told Fox News, “If they want to go to an institution that is racially diverse and integrated, then racial diversity and integration is part of it. To have a university-sanctioned segregation or separation is, to me, a bit troubling.”’
Wouldn’t university-sanctioned segregation strengthen diversity and a sense of identity? As far as integrating, that could only work in a masculine, mono-cultural environment that takes into account the necessity of pride.
Let’s launch a national segregation program like it was back in the 1950’s and earlier. It looks to me like todays African American Community would be more happy being forced to use different bathrooms, different water fountains, sitting in the back of the bus and live in old fashioned segregated neighborhoods. MLK Jr.’s dream will never come true and, he will probably roll over in his grave about tis.
