Russia’s defense ministry has rejected complaints by U.S. officials who claimed Russian attack planes buzzed dangerously close to a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Baltic Sea earlier this week.
The U.S. European command has said the Russian planes buzzed multiple times on Monday and Tuesday in what the U.S. officials described as an unsafe and unprofessional manner.
Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian defense ministry, said on Thursday that the pilots of Russian Su-24 jets saw the ship and turned back “while using all measures of precaution.”
Konashenkov said he was baffled by what he described as the “distressed reaction of our American counterparts.”
The U.S. European Command statement said on Wednesday that officials are using diplomatic channels to address the matter.

You do not know if the Russian command told him to or the squadron leader took this act upon his own you can not start a war over something like that but we can make a mistake also. Most wars were started foolishly. This is an “instant” age. One of USA’s top “fighter-bomber” long range carrier based planes has more destructive power than all planes used by USA in WW2. Our enemies are testing our reaction time. About 10 years ago a think tank room of us that met privately a couple days each month to discuss both global economy & USA dollar, & our fire power response time debated when will WW3 begin. After hours of fact swapping we settled on most probable year as 2017 & on a day when USA would least expect it. Christmas, or Easter or Super Bowl Sunday in 2017. I am now voting on Super Bowel Sunday when USA is destroyed & world war begins one last time. EVERYBODY LOSES.

Justin, The Russian planes were trying to alert this country that they could annihilate us if they wanted to wake us up. Putin likes Obama and our country. He is not trying to destroy us. The Commander of said ship should have ordered the gunners to fire tracer rounds to a point where the planes would have flown IF they didn’t take evasive maneuvers. We could claim that we were just taking “simulative” actions against an imaginative foe.

Actually it was a pretty good photo-op with an SU-24. The Pilots of the Russian jets saw the ship and turned back????? Gee, it’s all on film and does that look like “turning back”. The Navy should shoot one down and say, it appeared the jet was hostile.

The Navy has rules of engagement which probably say, if attacked, you are to observe only.
Nothing new here! This has been going on since my late husband was in the Navy from WW2 to his retirement in 1966. They played this cat and mouse game daily!
I may be wrong however a number of months ago the same thing happened to one of our newest Aegis destroyers however it was reported at the time that the Sukoi fighter bomber having made a number of similar hostile passes was carrying a special pod that contained a device that rendered our most critical radars inoperative thus causing great concern in all circles. I wonder if this was another such incident? If it was, it is far more serious than it appears from this report and to be perfectly honest, the president that we have is probably not up to snuff for handling such situations. He is again in over his Community Organizing head. This president and his “advisors” have laid us open to all types of problems through systemic ignorance of the real world that we live in. What do you expect when 80% have been only in academia or NFPs? Perhaps this is what Marxist oriented presidents have in mind, he being the first with Sanders (who honeymooned in Russia) being a possible second. All things considered, this does not give one that warm and toasty feeling that we have an effective and knowledgeable president who loves this country and can stay the course providing “REAL” leadership from the FRONT and not the “rear”!
