“It’s time to end this.”
That’s the message coming from talk radio host Rush Limbaugh — and it’s aimed directly conservative voters.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. and the rest of the Republicans that are heading into the historic impeachment vote Wednesday need to remember the will of the people.
And according to Limbaugh, conservatives want to squash impeachment completely when the Senate trial begins.
Republican lawmakers say they will use the trial to prove President Donald Trump’s innocence.
McConnell would like to acquit Trump once and for all, so the Democrats and the liberal media have no more excuses, CNN reports.
But Limbaugh said that could be a mistake. McConnell should immediately vote and dismiss Trump’s impeachment, which McConnell has the power to do thanks to a 53-vote majority Republicans have in the Senate, he told listeners.
Don’t worry about what the liberal media says, Limbaugh warned.
Listen to the voters.
“They’re gonna be afraid of the media. They’re gonna be afraid of the criticism they will get. But, man, if they could pull the trigger and just dismiss this and throw it out on the basis there’s no case.
“The Democrats have no case. They have no evidence. There’s not a single crime even mentioned in the articles of impeachment,” Limbaugh said.
“It would be, on a factual basis, easy to do. Politically, yeah, might be tough for some of them to pull out, but it would be the absolute greatest way to end this.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. is looking to change all of this. The liberal lawmaker is trying to recruit his GOP colleagues to allow anti-Trump witnesses to take the stand.
Limbaugh fears that if Schumer is successful, he and the Democrats could drag impeachment on even longer.
“If Schumer gets what he wants, it seems hard to believe that will be the end of it,” he said. “The request for more witnesses appears designed to lead not to closure but to reopening the case against Trump.”
But ultimately if conservative lawmakers move forward with a vote in the Senate trial, Limbaugh warns there are liberal-leaning Republicans that can’t stand Trump beneath the surface.
“I know that there are a lot of Republicans in the Senate that hate Trump,” he said.
Still, Limbaugh is confident that conservative voters will hold them accountable.
“I don’t think they’re gonna vote to remove him from office because that’s their own death warrant if they do,” Limbaugh said. “I’m not in any denial about the reality of all this.”
