Former President Joe Biden will go on the friendly ABC News daytime show “The View” on May 8 his first major interview since leaving the White House in January, the show announced Thursday — but he won’t be far from his handlers.
Former First Lady Jill Biden will appear with her husband to make sure his daytime news takeover goes according to plan.
The appearance will mark Joe Biden’s 11th time on the daytime talk show since 2007, building on a relationship that included a September 2024 visit when he became the first sitting president to join the program live. During that appearance, Biden claimed he would have defeated President Donald Trump again had he remained in the race.
“Next Thursday, May 8th, we are honored to welcome former President Biden and first lady Jill Biden for their very first interview since leaving the White House,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said on Thursday’s program. “We’ll ask about his legacy, accomplishments, regrets, and of course, the current political landscape.”
The Bidens’ appearance continues a strange return to political life for the aging former president. Last month, he delivered his first post-presidency address at a conference in Chicago. Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also appeared on “The View” in March, becoming the first Biden administration official to visit the show since Democrats lost the 2024 election.
For years, “The View” has fawned over Biden. Co-host Ana Navarro, a strong Biden supporter, hosted a 2020 Florida event for him and served as the host of the second night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris’s own appearance on the program during the campaign became a significant stumble when, asked by co-host Sunny Hostin what she would have done differently from Biden, she memorably responded that “not a thing that comes to mind.”
The moment became fodder for Trump’s campaign to portray Harris as a continuation of the unpopular Biden administration.
Following Trump’s election victory, “The View” has maintained its far-Left stance. When questioned about potentially hiring a pro-Trump co-host, an ABC News spokesperson defended the current liberal panel, saying it “is clearly resonating with audiences given that the series just had its highest rated episode in more than a decade.”
The Bidens’ appearance comes as several books are being published admitting how hard the White House worked to over up Biden’s serious mental decline while in office.
At the recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Axios reporter Alex Thompson remarked that the mainstream media “missed a lot of this story.”
