Report: Hunter Biden flees the U.S., living abroad

Hunter Biden has fled the United States and is now living overseas… and now he says he’s too broke to pay his lawyers, according to a new court filing.

The disclosure came in an April 6 court document filed in Washington, D.C., by Hunter Biden’s attorney Barry Coburn. The filing was submitted in connection with a civil lawsuit brought by Winston & Strawn LLP, the law firm that previously represented Biden in his felony gun trial in Delaware and his tax crimes prosecution in California.

The firm is suing him for unpaid legal fees “substantially in excess of $50,000.”

“Mr. Biden lives abroad. He cannot pay his current lawyers,” Coburn said.

The filing also describes Hunter Biden as “impecunious” — meaning he lacks the funds to cover any more legal battles. Coburn declined to say exactly where Hunter had fled and is currently living.

South Africa is considered the most likely location. Hunter Biden’s current wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, is a South African native and last year Hunter spoke openly about his affection for the country.

“We’re trying to be between Cape Town and the States, go back and forth,” he said on a recent South African podcast. “I’ve fallen madly in love with Cape Town.”

While he claims to be too broke to pay his U.S. lawyers, the former first son has managed to continue flying back and forth to the U.S. Social media posts show him at a Biden family Easter gathering in California earlier this month.

Biden himself has admitted publicly that he’s blown through the massive fortune he amassed in the decades his father was in power. Hunter Biden was paid millions over the years to sit on foreign business boards while Joe Biden was a senator and vice president.

On a podcast last year, though, Hunter now claimed to be $17 million in debt.

Then-President Joe Biden pardoned his son on all federal crimes before leaving office in January 2025, wiping out his convictions on the gun and tax fraud.

But the civil lawsuit over unpaid legal fees are not covered by any pardon.

President Donald Trump stripped Hunter Biden’s Secret Service protection last year after photos and reports surfaced of him vacationing in South Africa on the taxpayer’s dime.

Trump posted on Truth Social at the time that Biden’s protective detail — which he described as 18 agents — was “ridiculous” given his overseas travel.
