A war of words between Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-M.N., and Nancy Mace, R-S.C., exploded on social media over the weekend after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Omar had blasted U.S. military forces for preparing the Iranian strike on the Muslim holiday of Ramadan right before Khamenei and his generals were eliminated.
“Iraq was attacked by the US during Ramadan and it sickening to know that the US is again going to attack Iran during Ramadan,” Omar said. “The US apparently loves to strike Muslim countries during Ramadan and I am convinced it isn’t what these countries have done to violate international law but about who they worship.”
Omar was lying, community members noted on X. Operation Iraqi Freedom, launched by President George W. Bush, began on March 20, 2003 — seven months before Ramadan began that year.
Operation Desert Storm, under President George H.W. Bush on January 17, 1991, began roughly two months before that year’s Ramadan.
“I don’t give a s**t if it’s Ramadan. Why do you continue to simp for terrorists who want Americans and their allies dead,” Mace shot back.

After the strikes confirmed Khamenei’s death, Mace posted a Fox News graphic bearing the headline “Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Confirmed Dead,” and sniped at Omar.
“My heart goes out to Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib tonight. Sending them thoughts and prayers.”
Omar, who had also called the strikes “a reckless abuse of power,” fired back at Mace and accused her of being drunk.
“I hope you aren’t drunk and took your staff’s advice,” Omar wrote. “Rashida and I don’t know this man and feel confident he didn’t care about us. Please restrain from drinking too much as you have been warned from your staff and stay off social media when you are drunk. I pray in his holy month you find peace and respect for your self.”

Mace then shot back: “So tell me, what was it like being married to your brother?”
The credible claim that Omar married her own brother to help him immigrate into the United States has circulated in conservative circles for years. Omar previously dismissed the accusation as “absolutely false and ridiculous.”

The two lawmakers have been at odds since the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last September. Mace claimed Omar had mocked Kirk’s cold-blooded killing and said “there MUST be consequences for glorifying political violence.”
Mace launched a censure effort against Omar and attempted to strip her of her committee assignments. The censure effort failed in the House by a vote of 214-213, with four Republicans joining Democrats in opposition.
