Earlier this month, the Democratic National committee said in a mass text, “THREE new polls show President Biden’s approval rating is SURGING!”
President Joe Biden was indeed experiencing a small jump in popularity after his State of the Union earlier this month… but that appears to have already changed.
Only 40 percent of American adults approve of Biden’s performance, according to a new poll from Reuters/Ipsos. The previous week, 43 percent had approved.

Biden was sitting at net approval until August, according to FiveThirtyEight’s poll aggregator. Then, he watched his approval ratings decline amid the rise of the Delta coronavirus variant and a sloppy withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Now he’s resumed his decline in popularity, according to the new poll.
The pollsters estimated the margin of error at only four points. They surveyed 1,005 adults: 423 self-reported Democrats and self-reported 366 Republicans.
They conducted the survey between Mar. 21 and 22, and they received responses in English from throughout the country. However, they collected these responses online. So they may have seen a response bias.
In any case, the poll prompted Reuters to compare Biden to his predecessor: former President Donald Trump.
Biden, like Trump, has seen his approval rating split straight down party lines. He’s enjoying 77 percent approval among Democrats approve of Biden… but only 27 percent among independents and 10 percent among Republicans.
Biden preached about unity during the campaign, but he’s failed. Plus, Trump polled at or above 77 percent among Republicans in every week of his presidency, according to Gallup.

In fact, Trump remains the favorite to win 2024’s presidential primary. 54 percent of Republican primary voters would back him in an election held today, according to Politico’s poll of 2,005 registered voters from earlier this month.
However, the Democrats have more urgent worries than the next presidential election. They’re heading for a wipeout in the midterms.
Biden, while unpopular, is still polling ahead of most congressional Democrats. He’s boasting a favorability rating five points ahead of congressional Democrats, according to Politico.
Biden outperformed many congressional Democrats in 2020. He may do it again during this year’s midterm elections… but this time it might look bleaker for Democrats.
