House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi has issued a call to action to her rank and file to fight Republican efforts to scrap the health care law by highlighting the risks of repeal for millions of Americans.
In a letter to her Democratic colleagues late Wednesday, Pelosi said that with the new GOP-controlled Congress and Donald Trump’s administration, “House Democrats stand ready to fight vigorously for America’s hard-working families.” She urged lawmakers to hold media events in early January to tell voters about Republican plans to repeal the law, called the Affordable Care Act, at the beginning of the year.
“As we prepare for the first week in January, we are focusing on protecting the Affordable Care Act, and protecting what the ACA does for Medicare and our seniors,” she wrote.
Pelosi’s letter came just hours after the Obama administration announced that about 6.4 million people had signed up for health insurance next year under the law despite GOP moves to scuttle the law. That’s an increase of 400,000 over last year.
Some of the biggest sign-up numbers so far came from states that Trump won, including Florida (1.3 million), Texas (776,000), North Carolina (369,000), Georgia (352,000), and Pennsylvania (291,000). Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s home state of Indiana had 119,000 residents enrolled.
Still, congressional Republicans are pressing ahead with their plans to repeal the law but delay scrapping it for up to four years. That would give the GOP time to come up with a replacement, although Republicans have failed to agree on an alternative for the past six years. It also would spare Republicans from any political damage in the 2018 midterm elections, as scuttling the law could cost some 20 million Americans their health insurance.
Some Republicans, including Donald Trump’s pick to head the Health and Human Services Department, have also sought to overhaul Medicare as well. Rep. Tom Price of Georgia strongly favors privatizing the program.
“At these events the most effective voices are those of the constituents whose lives will be affected by attacks on the ACA and Medicare,” Pelosi said. “Advocates and health care groups stand ready to participate and assist us.”
Pelosi said Democrats would have a conference call on Dec. 29 to discuss steps forward. She said that Jan. 14, a week before Trump’s inauguration, would be “a national day of action with events across the country to continue the drumbeat.”

The Affordable Care Act is only affordable to those not working. They get it free. 99% of working people can’t afford ObamaCare. First the insurance premiums gouge their paychecks, and then they can’t go to doctor because of high deductibles. If the Republicans can’t repeal (or at least massively overhaul) this health law there’s something wrong. They have numbers now. This should be one of the first orders of business after January 20th.
There’s a part-time employee working in my job area who will have to quit her job because of increased premiums this coming year. She’s part-time and on Social Security Disability. The increase in insurance premiums will cover her entire paycheck. So she’s going to sit at home, collect her disability, and pay a very small amount for insurance. She’s hoping Trump and the Republican Congress can drastically change the health care law.
Maybe IF Those DEMONIC-RATS were covered by it, they might “THINK” differently !!

The cost of the ‘roll out’ of Obamacare could have been much better spent. Doing the math, the government could have given every head of household ONE MILLION DOLLARS! That money could have been put in interest bearing trust for the family and paid out on medical bills. Instead it is gone with the wind to Obama and Wife’s pals to set up this disastrous system.
ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS…pick up Japan’s heath care system. They insure ONE HUNDRED PERCENT at a cost of only 4% of their GNP. We may insure 65%, probably less, at a cost of FOURTEEN PERCENT OF OUR GNP!

Bull shit, she’s afraid her husband’s fish company won’t get the money that was slipped in to the bill along with some other companies. Again a case of no one reading what is really in the bill. And for the increase in enrollment, it again comes down to money, If these people who have held off as long as possible about getting it they were faced with a $800 fine when they did their IRS this year vs a $400 enrollment fee. When I recently spent 4 days in the hospital and found this out…One of the resolutions in the bill that states that seniors over 65 would get limited hospital care and services, just to be made comfortable until they went home or passed away. I have A-fib and had an attack a few months ago. which thankfully only has happened 3 other times, usually years apart. I am always on the 6th floor for heart patients, this last time I was put on the 9th floor which houses only sr. citizens being made comfortable….another resolution of the bill now being put into play.
What’s my knowledge of the Obamacare contents, 12 of us from different walks of life, doctors, druggists, Sr. citizens, Employers, workers from different companies, large and small and just the average citizens,lawyers, etc formed a panel and each took a part of the bill, read it, made notes on it then we all met and discussed or disclosed our sections. It was e very enlightening believe me.

Hey Nancy, I think the people have registered their opinions repeatedly on Obamacare. That’s why you are no longer speaker of the House and why the number of Democrat congressmen keeps shrinking.
Several things can be done to begin dismantling Obamacare. Removing the requirement to have health insurance and allowing a variety of coverage options would be a good start. It’s a good idea to have health insurance. Health care providers should be allowed to offer plans that would cover major medical issues but let healthy people pay for the small stuff out of pocket. While requiring birth control coverage makes Planned Parenthood happy, people should not be forced to bankroll birth control pills and abortions for others.
If Obummercare is so great–ask Pelsoi if she has it? Oh, different story now
Why can’t they just come up with something a lot more simplified than all this Obamacare stuff … perhaps similar to what we have in California, called Medi-Cal where just the people who can’t afford regular insurance get most of the basic coverage they need, which is state government subsidized, while the people who can afford regular insurance can pay for it AND keep whatever doctor’s they want? Now then, is that such a hard pill to swallow?

Pelosi is a real piece of work. She was largely responsible for that disaster being forced down our throats in the first place. She said that we would have to pass it to find out what was in it. Well it was passed and now we want to get rid of it. Does anyone think that she will ever bother to read it? Of course its repeal will be a slap in the face for both her and Obama. But of course Congress is exempt from the program. If she had to live with it she might not be quite so anxious to keep it. We can only hope that the Republicans stick to their guns and don’t cave in. They do outnumber the socialist democrats in Congress.
