Three thugs other men entered a Pizza Hut on October 30th in Charlotte, North Carolina with a gun and demanded the restaurant’s money, but got more than they bargained for.
An employee caught them by surprise by being armed himself and, in a heroic act in defense of the other employees and patrons, fired his weapon and killed one of the three robbers, Michael Grace, Jr.
Now, Grace’s parents are speaking out — and are demanding the armed employee go to jail.
Temia Hairston and Michael Grace Sr. told local station WNCN North Carolina that acknowledge their son was an armed criminal, but say it’s unjust he was killed while committing armed robbery.
“Why in the hell did this guy have a gun?” Hairston asked about the employee who killed her son.
“Even a criminal has a right, to a degree,” said Grace Sr, adding “I’m not advocating what my son did.”
Harison told CBS News that she thinks the employee responsible for her son’s death needs to go to jail, and both claim it was not the right of the employee to defend himself
“If there was to be a death, it was not the place of the employee at Pizza Hut. That is the place of the law enforcement”, they said. They believe the employee shot their son because of a personal vendetta, not because he was acting in self-defense. Grace, Jr. had formerly worked at the Pizza Hut he was attempting to rob.
“This wasn’t a body shot. This was a head shot. My son was shot in the left side of his ear. A head shot is personal,” Hairston claimed.
She said Grace, Jr. was down on his luck and attempted the armed robbery because he has a child. “It was an act of desperation, but I do not believe that Michael would have hurt anyone,” said Hairston.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released a statement on the incident and stated that, “The investigation is still ongoing. Any new information will be released by Public Affairs.”

This is a prime example as to why our society is so screwed up. These individuals seriously think that their son was unjustly shot when he threatened others lives with a firearm in the commission of a felony crime. There is a serious flaw in anyone (even parents) thought process to suggest that the employee (victim) is in anyway culpable for his actions in protecting his and his coworkers lives.
They should look in the mirror to find where this came from. Maybe if they had done a better job raising him, he would not have turned out to be a criminal. If he was down on his luck that lets you know theres no such thing as luck. So they are responible for his death. The pizza employee did a great job. That is what i would have done too.

Considering the parents have two last names it’s likely they didn’t raise him together and he came from a fatherless home. Perhaps one of the biggest predictors of poverty and crime is the lack of a father figure in the home.

Well, If I am in such a situation, I too will go for a head shot! I am licensed and insured. It is personal. The parents’ opinion may be a clue as to why this guy was a criminal and attempting an armed robbery. This is an interesting slant on rationalization for criminals. It is perfectly legal to defend yourself from deadly force by the use of deadly force. Crooks know this and try to avoid attacking places where armed citizens are known to be. Yes, gun safety training is important and should be required of all licensed gun owners, probably on an annual basis.

I feel sorry for these parents who’ve lost a son, but their anger is grossly misplaced. Their son had intent and was armed; this was not some ‘school boy’ prank. He intended to commit robbery, he had a gun and threatened other lives. Those threats were answered with equal force and their son died. The employee was protecting all of the other people that were present as well as himself. The fact that the robber was killed by a shot to the head means only that no one else was harmed. ‘Winging’ someone doesn’t preclude them ‘getting off a shot’ so the employee did the right thing IMO; he neutralized him immediately. If their son was as desperate as they claim, what were they doing to help and support him? A criminal act was perpetrated on innocent people and as much as I sympathize with their feelings of loss, this was a man who made a bad decision and reaped the most dire consequence possible. Don’t try to minimize what your son did and demonize the one who stepped up to protect others…that won’t bring your son back and it certainly isn’t ‘justice’.

I believe most places of employment have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that forbids employees to carry weapons to work. Pizza Hut will more than likely have to fire employee because he carried a weapon onto work premises. Do I agree with that? NO! I feel all law abiding citizens should be able to defend ourselves.

Maybe how to live a productive life so that he wouldn’t have to resort to armed robbery? Did the thug’s parents teach him about consequences for threatening others? Did the thug’s parents teach him that pulling guns on others is not the proper way to act in a civilized society?
The individual who shot the thug was using his weapon properly: For self-defense and the defense of others that appeared in immediate danger. He vanquished the threat, and didn’t injure any innocent people in the process. And if the police came, I think they would be writing the police report about the thug being successful with his armed robbery, instead of the thug getting what he deserved.
But then we would have to endure more protests about police killing a thug, instead of an armed citizen taking matters into his own hands when he saw a dangerous situation that he knew he could resolve.
It just turns out that the resolution wasn’t to the satisfaction of the criminal element at the scene. But I don’t think the criminal will be complaining anymore.
Another young life destroyed by HATE. He was not down on his luck as his misguided inept parents are selling. There is no such thing as luck in life. You are either a productive citizen or you are a TAKER in life. This young man was a TAKER not a GIVER. Thankfully this criminal who 1)Possessed a gun 2) Walked into a business VIOLENTLY threatening the lives of law abiding citizens 3) In the act of a felony robbery was stopped before he KILLED INNOCENT people. Law Enforcement officers are not there to protect you they are there to uphold the law. If the Pizza Hut employee waited for a law enforcement officer he would most likely be DEAD. Until you have the barrel of a gun staring you down from a hate-filled criminal who wants to TAKE from you (and most likely TAKEN AND KILL even if you give them what they want) then you have zero business understanding the trauma the actions of criminals inflict. Guns are VIOLENT because criminals today understand that America has been dumbed down and won’t defend themselves anymore because sue-happy parents like these would rather carry a torch and blame everyone around them for their sons GROSS negligence.
There is a difference between being a sperm donor and recipient, and being a parent.
Guess which one these people are.
“because he had a child to support”? CPS needs to get their hands on this child and remove he(r) from the enviroment where such behavior and attitude is taught. The grandparents should never get their hands on this child.

Had he not been involved in the armed robbery, chances are he would not have died by bullet.
