Pakistani foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz says his country would like to work with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the common interest of combatting terrorism.
In an interview with Pakistan’s Geo News channel Thursday, he says that helping negotiate a political settlement in Afghanistan is another area where the two countries could work together.
The U.S. president-elect has publicly criticized Pakistan in the past for battling some Islamic militant groups while tolerating others.
Aziz acknowledged that perception, but said such policies were “in the past.”
Local and al-Qaida linked Islamic militants who have had long used Pakistan’s lawless tribal regions along the Afghan border as safe havens. The Afghan government frequently accuses Islamabad of sheltering the senior leadership of the Taliban.

Not so sure about that last statement. Pakistani intelligence has been playing both sides of the supposed war on terror for a long time and the US is the fool in the middle. Frightened by their Nuclear Arsenal, USA keeps feeding the corrupt generals and politicians cash which keeps them rich, their arsenal intact. Pakistan knows that if the war on terror stops their money dries up. They are going to continue to play us until their WMD’s are eliminated
President Trump may be able to negotiate deals with a lot of countries on a lot of issues. Hopefully he will be able to put a plan in place to create strong governments in Afghanistan and Iraq so we can leave both countries.
I just imagine that several countries in the Middle East have leaders who are shaking in their slippers over our electing a president who will not be wimpy where terrorism is concerned. They have gotten by with doing whatever they wanted to do now for 8 years, but “the times they are a-changing!” No more kissing the king or bowing to him! No more influx of any and everybody no matter how unvetted they are. The silent majority has spoken.
