It’s not often I care about the opinions of actors and actresses. Just because someone has a microphone doesn’t mean they deserve our attention.
However, Meryl Streep’s rant during Sunday night’s Golden Globes warrants a response.
When presented with an award for lifetime achievement, Streep decided it was an opportune time to lecture America on why they should feel more grateful for Hollywood.
After all, without multimillionaire actors and actresses like her, Streep said, “you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which,” she explained to the cheers of the audience “are not the arts.”
It was part of a nauseating, shameful rant from an otherwise talented actress — and the moment was the exact kind of elitist self-righteousness that pushed millions of Americans to elect Donald Trump.

Hollywood celebrities like Streep are hopelessly out-of-touch, and they have no business lecturing average Americans about anything.
Too often, though, they mistake the stage for a soap box.
Streep, who lives in a gated home with walls and a private security team in Los Angeles and has multiple residences in places like Manhattan and Connecticut, knows nothing about concerns over crime and terrorism.
Streep, who grew up in a wealthy family and is paid millions of dollars for each movie she makes, has no clue what it’s like to struggle to pay bills.
Streep, who takes private jets to luxurious vacations around the globe, has zero notion about what it’s like for working people living day-to-day.
Have you ever looked in your checking account and tried to figure out how to survive until the next paycheck?
It has been a sobering reality for most Americans at one time or another– but that thought has never once crossed the minds of these self-righteous actors and actresses.
Streep is incredibly ignorant if she thinks she knows what’s best for our country just because she’s popular and rich – and everyday Americans, the ones who elected Trump, know that.
She thinks voters should watch less football and, instead, listen more to what she thinks?
She’s wrong.
Instead, Streep should watch less movies, and listen to what the rest of America thinks.

I remember a few years ago that a TV movie was going to be shown about the woman doctor in Antartica who had cancer. She had to perform her own biopsy I had seen a documentary on this and was anxious to see the movie. However, when I found that Susan Sarandon produced the movie and was playing the part of of the doctor I watched something else. A few days later I heard that a re-run of an original Star Trek TV episode had more viewers than her movie. I guess I was not the only one who refused to watch anything she is in. This goes for a lot of the Hollywood elites. I refuse to watch anything they are in.

Hi…Today I sent a email to the Congressman (Dave Reichert) about a new attack from the
VA. I have been told there was an over payment of over $42 thousand. They
did not say for what or when. I have tried to obtain help in other areas but
no groups exist in Wenatchee like there was several years ago. The VA
intends to start collection of this debt(?) starting Jan 1st. I need some
help to delay the process until I know some details. They are already not
paying me for my wife Nancy. The VA and their tactics started many years ago when
I first applied for disability. About 22 years, two Congressmen, and several
doctors later I was told that they would begin payment at the 100% level of
disability but, they would not go back the 22 years. Supposedly, there was a
federal law preventing them from doing that. Over the next years I have had
to fight for and re-prove to them that I was indeed entitled to receive my
payments. Now it begins again. They were notified when my wife died in 2003 and when
my daughter had finished college. Then when I got married again on March 1st 2014, they were notified and I registered her with CHAMP-VA for her health coverage. Then I received a notice in February (2016) that beginning March 1st 2016 I would not be paid for my wife. She was reported dead in
their records. I responded to that but no return information was sent to me
until I got the letter that I owed them a debt and they would be collecting
beginning in Jan 2017. I sent in response letters asking for the reason and
that if it was real that I wanted a debt relief due to it not being any
fault or fraud on my part. Again no response. Please ask the Congressman to
at least put a delay on this problem and some advice of who I can contact
for help with this matter. The road has been and is very rocky for disabled
veterans. I would ask that I be notified in reference to this problem. I
cannot afford an attorney. I thank you in advance for your time and effort
in this matter.

next email… I just wanted you to know the VA took all my disability pay check. I have automatic deposit and automatic bill pay (so I don’t forget) but it now looks like I may miss my house payment and others. My last email to Congressman office… Zack…First I want to say “sorry” for the phone call. I know it is not your fault. I am just so tired of every person who I have talked to accepting
that the VA is always speaking the truth with their responses and the
veteran is always wrong. That is just one reason why they will not give
names nor allow tracking to who got what when. The common response is OH we
never got that or we just received that information and it is no longer
valid. I am going to attempt to answer your last email by referencing the
paragraphs. Paragraph 1. the VA had only answered part of the actual
information about me. In order to understand I must give a bit of my history
with the VA and other problems that plagued me after my return from Vietnam.
I did get out of the Army in 1968 but I returned to the military in late 69.
I had gotten a call from a Major at the Pentagon I think his name was Stykos
or pronounced like that. He was talking about a new program for the Army
being done at Ft. Benning. they had started a Sniper training program and I
became one of the instructors to teach while serving in Vietnam. After
Vietnam I went to Germany for another tour. Ultimately I was discharged from
the Army after losing a stripe as a sergeant and with an honorable discharge
in 1976. About a year later I had ended up divorced because my wife at the
time claimed to be afraid of me. Not for anything I had done but for what I
was capable of doing whatever that meant. Sometime later (memory is not a
strong thing anymore) I got married and began a somewhat successful life.
It did not last. 18 months after our wedding I was out on a long haul and my
wife shot herself. Although I was unaware she had a miscarriage and could
not take the loss. Several years later I learned that exposure to agent
orange can and does affect a fetus and our government knew about it. I was
one of the original persons involved with the lawsuit against the
manufacturer of the product. We won the lawsuit but I like others did not
receive a penny (the government decided they would take the money and give
it out to those they wanted whether they were part of the suit or not) nor
did the VA allow any compensation except for a special kind of cancer. Now
they consider nerve damage (which I have and had) as an additional problem
but not one they added to my disability at the time of the suit. So, I lost
a wife, a baby I knew nothing about yet, and a million dollar business that
owned everything we had at the time. I became a wandering lost person again.
I went from job to job many times just up and left. I did not know why I was
on a destructive course. I later met and married Linda (Murray) Taylor.
While married to Linda I met a counselor who helped PTSD survivors of the
war. He got me to see several different psychiatrists and to the VA hospital
in Seattle. Eventually with help from different persons (Doctors, Counselors
and Congressmen) I ended up with what I now have 100% pay and 80% damage
(kind of strange but the VA way). I thought that perhaps my life was
changing for the better. Again I was wrong. My wife had total kidney failure
and died in April 2003. Her illness lasted for a few years and the medical
bills took their toll. In addition I lost my Mother and that was the last
straw. Once again I became a wandering basically homeless person hating
people and crowds. In 2012 on thanksgiving day my daughter took me to the hospital in Wenatchee. I needed open heart surgery right then but I had a bleeding ulcer and that had to be
fixed before surgery could be done. My surgery had complications in the
recovery room and the heart stopped. The nurse did CPR and I eventually
recovered and left the hospital I think on the 23rd or 24th of December
2012. Further complications began almost immediately. The result was I had
to see several doctors in Wenatchee since I could not travel. The result of
these complications was the VA required the bills to be reported using their
forms and the doctors used their own method of billing. I was in the middle
and ended up paying much of it out of pocket. I had Congressman Reichert
involved and some was paid but most was not. The VA did pay the hospital but
not the doctors who I saw in their own office places since they did not have
an office in the hospital. That created a problem with the VA who by that
time did not have an office in Wenatchee as they had earlier. While still in
the Wenatchee area and making my recovery I met Nancy Baird and later in
March 2014 we got married in Nevada. During the year I applied for CHAMPVA
to cover my wife Nancy. I sent the paperwork required to the addresses
CHAMPVA wanted it sent to and later in Aug 2014 I had to send proof that we
had actually got married. I do not know why but VA forms and letters began
to come from other places and my pay was cut because Linda Taylor had been
removed and the VA had her death listed as 2 different years. I had sent the
death certificate to them in 2003 and no I cannot recall how it was sent or
which office I sent it to.
Much of paragraph 2 is not true. But I cannot say when or how the
consolidated intake center got their copy. Although the system is set up
such that there is no way to prove the Veteran’s statements I know that I
was not remiss in my obligation to inform the VA of changes to my status.
Papers were not sent to the debt collection center as there was no address
to send them to. Attached to this letter (a copy of it will be sent to the
VA at the only addresses available to me.) is a copy of the only addresses
available and they are sorted according to the state. They are also on the
last page of the attachment you sent to me. I simply do not trust myself to
make a call and talk to someone about this debt. It took them over 10 years
to pay it with their backlog. If I had been the one to keep this going why
would I even try to register my wife to receive CHAMPVA and fill out their
paperwork? When I first replied to the notice that I had a debt I filled out
at least one of their forms and in the comments I wrote see attached letter.
The letter said I knew nothing about a debt and to let me know when and how
I had gotten to be in debt. I know they never gave me a lump sum for that
amount and they did not say what it was for. Remember a phone call to the
office is not recorded and then no proof is available but if they send me a
statement I could maybe keep it and then have some proof of what was said.
This is really causing me mentally and physically and is taking me a long
time to put to paper. I do have a suggestion for the VA. Since they have not
been paying me for my wife Nancy and it took years for that overpayment to
take place how about they recoup it the same way over the same time period?
I simply cannot afford to not get my pay and the house is financed under a
VA guarantee loan. I had to borrow money during Linda’s illness to pay bills
and still have that account with the finance company open. I don’t know if I
can borrow again to make this month’s house payment. If there is a mailing
address to the debt center please have them give it to you or send to me.
Even a fax number would work but I know if I call I will just get into more
trouble hopefully they will furnish an alternate method of contact. I would
send it overnight to them. One last question…how much did the VA personnel
pay back for their party they attended and got caught using the funds
earmarked for the hospitals or other to have a meeting?

When I read some of these actors and actresses bio’s I sometimes learn that they received liberal arts degrees. Now that may SOUND impressive, but when I was earning my science degree I had to take several liberal arts courses so I could graduate with a ‘well rounded’ education. Due to the subjective nature of liberal arts courses I often found myself thinking that my very smart 10 year old could take the LA final exams and ‘graduate’ with at least a cum laude GPA. To satisfy my own curiosity, I gave him photocopies of a few old exams I’d found in the school library. He very nearly got them all right. It’s not hard to get an A on your opinions, as long as you keep them liberal. And who’s more liberal than a young child? Like most children, he did grow up.

Eight years ago I started changing the channel…turning off the tv…muting the sound…reading more…when certain people appeared on my tv screen/radio around the home/car….the more actors/musicans that jump on this bandwagon..the more movies/music I do not watch/listen…the more books I read…and got back to doing the things I really like doing more…

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, which if you don’t know is where many shows and movies are filmed, and actors live and/or hang out. I never much felt that they were any better than me or anyone else, cause they are not. But some today, seem to think they are. Being in the fence industry back then, I did have a chance to do some work for some entertainment people. This was back in the 70’s and 80’s, and people were much different back then. I did some work at Jack Nicholson’s home fixing his ornamental iron front gate. He was to much of a recluse to even come out and talk to us. He spoke to us thru a speaker from the house to the gate. I thought that was rude. Denise Nicholas was in the same situation. Days after the Northridge earthquake in ’94, her gate wouldn’t open and we were sent to here home to repair the gate so she could get her car out. She answered the door and was very nice to me. I also did a couple jobs at Al Jarreau’s home in the Hollywood Hills. I never met him, but his wife(who is white, and very beautiful) was a very nice lady that showed me his trophy room of all the awards he got for his music. Wasn’t too happy when their doberman snipped at my butt, but she was very cool. There used to be a small building decorated with semi large rocks on the outside, called the Rock House. It was on Mullhulland Blvd in the hills. Bikers used to hang there on the weekends mostly and have a few beers back in the day.(80’s) I rode at the time. One saturday or sunday, I was there. Jay Leno pulled up on one of his Harley-Davidsons. I was parked near the front door. Bikes, Bikes, and more bikes lined up next to each other. Jay rode in, and I went to him and said, Follow Me. I moved my bike farther away so he could park where mine was. He was very humble and thanked me over and over for moving my bike for him. Unfortunately, most of the Hollywood entertainers now a days are a**holes.

I don’t watch the Hollywood awards shows. They spend a lot of time recognizing overpaid people who are as artificial as the plastic Christmas tree in my living room.
I don’t care what Meryl Streep or the other entertainment elite think. These people spend their time lecturing the masses while living to up to a different set of standards. They support politicians who want to raise taxes and cut global warming; yet many of these entertainers likely have high priced tax advisors to help them pay very little taxes and their multiple mansions create a larger carbon footprint than most Americans will create in a lifetime.
I think many Americans have figured out these entertainers. Most of them have personal lives that are in shambles, while they advocate we follow the same path.
Streep and all the other actors though many have no match the the Streepster are all lost in a fake world and if they realy knew who they were would not have to pretend their someone else. What hollywood has to say is like listing to traffic ,bla bla bla and no one cares.

Even though I am a voter of independent political persuasion, in all likelihood and probably like the millions of fellow citizens who have supported and voted for Donald J. Trump last November 8th, I do part ways with your political views especially as it relates to your condemning the President-elect about something he might have said before, gesticulated about, insinuated, might have done in the past or even relatively recently. We as humans are all susceptible to human frailties be it something we did or said before but we are dynamic beings. With time most of us eventually adjust our ways, change our behavior, become more circumspect and introspective all with the overriding consideration of getting better, improve on our shortcomings, feel sorry for past behavior or misdeeds or even become more tolerant of others.
I share the view the Donald J. Trump as a fellow human has also reflected on things he has said or done before
and most likely has felt bad and has even apologized for it. Tell me, Madam, when it was revealed that former President George W. Bush then a presidential candidate had a brush with the law- a traffic violation, how many more times was it reported that he kept committing the same traffic infraction? As far as I know, ZILCH. NEVER AGAIN. ZERO. NADA. You and I know, everybody knows, President George W. Bush even though he continues to be treated so poorly by those from the Left of the political divide has remained A CLASS ACT. Truth be told, sometime during these past 8 years,so many has secretly confidentially wished he is still president. You can deny that all you want. When former President Bill Clinton also as a presidential candidate admitted that he smoked pot “but did inhale it”, was he villified and condemned about it? NO! He won the Presidency. When it was revealed that this incumbent WH occupant also indulged in marijuana while he was a student, was it held against him? NOPE. He was elected POTUS.
In short, a number of former POTUS also had a tarnished past but despite their less than sterling past, they all overcame their deficiencies and become POTUS.

There was a time during this most recent contentious presidential election cycle when as a declared presidential candidate, most so-called political pundits regarded the candidacy of Donald Trump as “DOA”, “will never be the GOP nominee”,”nothing but a distraction” , “a nuisance” but no matter how much you are repulsed by Donald trump as a man, as a fellow human, as a political candidate and his persona villified, demeaned, degraded, insulted and regarded as a figment of the imagination, the result of the election last November 8th has made the name, Donald J. Trump a firmament of the national consciousness.
Just remember, Madam, that however or whenever you express your displeasure about Mr. Donald J. In the past year of the presidential race, with all the corruption and lies being told, it was interesting watching the desperation of B and C list actors, basically beg all of us ignorant deplorables to vote for a Corrupt Hillary.
Immediately after her loss, while sifting through all the rhetoric, the best line I heard was “with as much work and money as the Hollywood elite volunteered and donated, they were shown to have zero power.” The Hollywood elite, as they call themselves, are just people. People like you and me but that are lucky enough and in some cases talented enough, to have a platform from which to speak. Some larger than others, but none the less, a platform. Knowing what they said publicly today will probably never effect their bank accounts, but they best be careful as money holds no candle to a reputation to those that care and have a moral compass.

Streep seems to think that Football and Martial Arts competitions are sub par entertainment. Just because these activities are about striving for personal best, involve studied forms of attainment that require much learning and practice, and present personal physical bests in performance, knowledge, teamwork, and execution, it does not follow that they are meaningless. As a man who enjoys Football and who had a passing acquaintance with Ken Po Karate that lead me to an interest in Tai Quan Doe (Phonetically spelled here for pronunciation sake) that lasted for more than a dozen years of practice, I can assure her that if that was all I had to watch, that would be fine. At least the participants are exercising real effort in real actions that they must master to some degree. A reasonably adept Martial Arts practioner can defend his family, friends, and self, where as Streep must resort to spouting lines from Bridges of Madison County. The exercise and health values of Martial Arts are second to NO exercise form. Streep is also ignorant of the history of Martial Arts from their conception as a training for defensive measures created by Buddhist Monks in a time when War Lords had ruled that no one else may have any weapons, to the forms competitions that demonstrate the smooth fluid, almost ballet like, movements of the different styles. (I wonder how Streep feels about Ballet?) Streep is unaware of such entertainments as books, music, crafts, fishing, archery, target shooting, hunting, painting, weight training, bicycling, and a thousand other pleasant, soothing, educational, enjoyable things, We do not live and die at the movies. Their chosen craft would be the easiest of all to loose. I have no idea how many people have an unspecified need to see movies, and that is their business, but I don’t know anyone who has been to one in better than a year. Streep works hard to justify a completely non essential. expensive, relatively pointless profession. I STRONGLY suggest that she and her fellow pretenders go on strike for as long as it takes for us to knuckle under and recognize their perceived “worth” and see how important they really aren’t to us. We tolerate the egotism, childishness, and pointlessness of their silly existence only for the entertainment they sometimes provide. Personally, I think Trump subconsciously did the act because the guy attacked him verbally. But, if we are to disparage everyone for every act in their lives they are not proud of then there is some agenda for those doing that. The worst thing Streep did was to give a pass to the media and not calling them on their lies and spreading of propaganda. It is one thing to focus on a bad deed by someone and another to purposely lie and omit truth that shapes what the public knows and believes. Maybe we could find some older than kraut movies that Meryl appeared in, way back in the early years of silent film. I’ll just stick with my football, martial arts and best of all, our new President, Donald J. Trump as he “Makes America Great Again”. Hollywood is a world of fantasy and make believe. None of it is real. It often makes for good entertainment (not always) but nothing more. Actors and actresses are not real people. They so often become so absorbed in their many different rolls they loose who they really are. They loose touch with reality. They are not experts on anything but entertainment. They have a right to say whatever they wish. But we have the right to use our good judgement and ignore them.

Streep forgets its all the movie goers that has made her rich! I have never thought she was that great and know she’s really old looking. I for one, hope Hollywood goes belly up. I have watched my last movie, they cost to much they aren’t good and all the great actors are too old or dead. I’m just an old fart, but I know what I like, and it’s not the crap they are turning out in the movies that’s for sure. I have collected all the old classics and I’m still collecting, I I watch a new movie everyday, at present it will take 5 years to go through all my movies and those are all the really good ones. By the end of five years can start over again, who needs Hollywood anymore.
