Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is under fire this week for one of the most tone-deaf responses of her career — and given some of her batty statements, that’s saying something!
Warren was given what seemed like a softball question from her pals at CNN.
It’s one any politician – left or right – should’ve knocked right out of the park. After all, it doesn’t take much effort to condemn a murderer and show sympathy for the victim and her family, right?
Well, she made a mess of it anyway.
CNN host John Berman asked Warren about the headline-making murder of Mollie Tibbets, a 20-year-old college student who went missing last month while jogging.
Her body was found last week and police arrested 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera, who was charged with first-degree murder.
“The person who allegedly murdered her is an undocumented immigrant,” Berman said. “[Vice President] Mike Pence and the president have suggested the laws need to be stronger so people like this were not in the country.”
Warren started with an apology for the family of the young victim.
Then, she seemed ready to get on the same page as Americans calling for tougher laws and better enforcement to prevent these tragic crimes.
“One of the things we have to remember is we need an immigration system that is effective, that focuses on where real problems are,” she said.
So far so good, right? You’d think from there she would address crime – including crime from illegal immigrants.
That’s certainly a “real” problem.
Not according to Warren!
Her answer turned into a confusing jumble of leftist talking points and a not-so-subtle jab at the immigration policies of President Donald Trump.
“Last month, I went down to the border and I saw where children had been taken away from their mothers, I met with those mothers who had been lied to, who didn’t know where their children were, who haven’t had a chance to talk to their children, and there was no plan for how they would be reunified with their children,” she said.
How about a mother will never have a chance to talk to her child again?
Nope. That’s not what Warren was concerned about.
She continued to push liberal talking points.
“I think we need immigration laws that focus on people who pose a real threat and I don’t think mamas and babies are the place that we should be spending our resources,” she said. “Separating a mama from a baby does not make this country safer.”
Again, no sympathy for an American “mama” who lost her child forever.
Just political theater.
Warren was later called out by the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., for literally putting politics over a young girl’s life.
Yea the real problem is not the murder of a young American girl… You can’t make this crap up. Is the left’s platform really defend anyone but actual Americans? I don’t know how to interpret it any other way. https://t.co/EXvkc2Tsr3
