A longtime Broadway star is coming under fire over a sick joke about assassinating President Donald Trump.
Carol Cook made the crack in an interview with TMZ… and even worse, it didn’t seem like an off-the-cuff comment. The banter between her and her husband, Tom Troupe, sounded as if they had rehearsed the idea of killing Trump like former President Abraham Lincoln.
TMZ had asked the 94-year-old actress about an incident on Broadway in which a supporter of the president waved a Trump flag during a curtain call for “Frozen.”

One of the actors snatched the flag and tossed it to the side.
“Is that a proper venue for a Trumper to bring a banner to?” the reporter asked.
“Well, my answer to that is…” replied Cook.
“Oh this is good!” her husband interjected. “Where was… no, you should say it.”
They both laughed, then Cook said “it.”
“Where is John Wilkes Booth when you need him?” she asked. “Right?”
She was referring of course to the infamous assassin – and actor – who shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theater on April 14, 1865.
The president died early the next morning.
“Now you’re going to ask me who the hell John Wilkes Booth is,” she said to the reporter.
“No I know who John Wilkes Booth is,” the reporter replied.
But just to make it clear, Troupe added: “He killed (the) president.”
“Don’t say that,” Cook replied. “They’ll get me for that.”
But then she doubled down: “Where is he when you need him?”
Someone off camera then asked: “So we need to kill President Trump?”
“Why not?” Cook said. “Will that get me in trouble? Will I be on an enemies list? My God, I hope so.”
She said she would be OK with that.
“Just keep me out of jail,” she added. “Or maybe not.”
Cook has appeared on the stage in shows such as “42nd Street” and “Hello Dolly,” on the small screen in “The Lucy Show” and “Murder, She Wrote,” and in films such as “American Gigolo” and “Sixteen Candles.”
But now, she could face something worse than a bad review.
TMZ reports that the Secret Service wants a different kind of curtain call with Cook.
The agency is “aware of the comment” and while she is not under investigation they plan to speak with her about it in the interest of due diligence.
Cook’s outrageous comment is just the latest in an escalating war of words in which leftist “entertainers” increasingly imply or outright call for violence against the president.
Comedian Kathy Griffin, of course, posed for a photo last year with a bloody rubber Trump head. Actor Jim Carrey paints brutal images of the president and those around him, including images depicting them being tortured or killed, such as one of Trump being burned at the stake.
“Figuratively speaking,” Carrey wrote over that last one, no doubt to head off any Secret Service interest of his own.
But it was another kind of comedian who may have gotten the last work on this one.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee – known for using Twitter to crack “dad jokes” that enrage the left and delight the right – said Cook might have to rehearse for a different role.
“’You have the right to remain silent.’ These are the lines this actress may need to memorize!” he tweeted. “This is not just sick-it’s a crime.”
